A diver ran out of oxygen 40 feet down at the Great Barrier Reef on their first certified dive because they refused to tap out, wanting to finish first. The story shows how competitiveness can override safety in high-risk situations.

That very first trip got me hooked. But here's a funny story with that. I'm slightly competitive and actually a lot competitive when it comes to— I was gonna say, wait, slightly? I'm going a little deep. Yeah, I'm playing that one much. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm highly competitive when it comes to certain things and especially when I was much younger. So I actually ran outta oxygen 40 feet below the water on the Great Barrier Reef on my very first dive after being certified because I wouldn't tap out to be the first one that said I was halfway out. And there were, you know, it's a whole funny story, like, yeah.
