6 Things to look for before hiring an Agency

Areeb Mirza (agency owner) explains six things businesses should check before hiring a marketing agency: (1) benchmark your industry and improve baseline content; (2) demand a clear, specific plan and roadmap; (3) verify the agency's track record with case studies/testimonials; (4) prioritize regular communication, reporting, and accessibility; (5) ensure alignment on goals, brand voice and cultural fit; and (6) focus on ROI rather than lowest cost. The video closes with CTAs: book a consulting/Calendly call (agency services) and subscribe to a weekday newsletter for content/ads tips.

So you're thinking about hiring an agency to handle your content and ads? Well, make sure to watch this full video before you do that and also full transparency. I run an agency specializing in building content and meta ads for service based businesses and I've seen and talked to many businesses that burn cash because they didn't know what to look for. What happens is they get dazzled by the flashy numbers and empty promises by a lot of the agencies. Don't be that person, you. Here's how to make sure you get it right. So I have a couple points, six to be exact, and we'll go through these one by one. So number one is you need to benchmark your industry. Here's what I mean. If you're a financial advisor, go on Instagram right now and find the top financial pages. Look at their content, is yours on their level and be honest. Quality over quantity. It's not about posting more, it's about posting better. If your content looks amateurish compared to your competitors, you've already lost the game. Or you're already losing the game. This depends by the industry as well. We do our best to make sure professional businesses look professional online because how you appear in front of a camera matters. Check out how your competitor's audience interacts, their comments, shares, likes. Are they even getting them? If so, analyze what makes their content engaging and more importantly, are they generating leads from it? So make a list of what stands out in their content and is it even high quality content? Is it valuable insights? Is it the humor? Identify the gaps in your own content strategy and start closing them. You can't expect results if your baseline content is weak, so start working on stepping up your game before you even think about hiring an agency and set your goals. Or get on a consulting call and set your goals with that person. Number two is Demand a clear plan. When you're talking to an agency, know exactly what they have in plan for you to do or in plan for you. If they say things like, oh, we'll boost your engagement without any specifics, that to me is kind of like a red flag. Vague strategies lead to vague results. Ask for a roadmap. What are the exact steps they'll take in the first week? In the first month? How will they measure success? And if they can't provide a plan for you, feel free to walk away. Don't settle for generic promises. Get specifics, or at the very least, know exactly which prom you're getting and what's it going to do for you. Remember, a confused mind says no. If you're confused about their plan, the answer should be no deal. Third point, check their track record. Look into what they've actually accomplished. Do they have case studies, testimonials? Real numbers showing they know how to deliver the results? Number four, prioritize communication. So effective communication isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Regular updates. How often will they update you? Weekly reports, Monthly meetings? You should never be in the dark about your own investment. How we personally tackle this is you get your own dashboard where you will have weekly reports for not only the socials, but the ad metric which you will have access to all times. Accessibility. Do they respond promptly to your calls or emails? Regular check ins will make sure that everyone is on the same page. This is where you can adjust the strategies before small issues become big problems. So sometimes the poor communication is kind of like a difference maker, even with the best strategies. So make sure they're as committed to keeping you informed. The fifth point, align on goals and values. Whichever agency you hires needs to understand your business at a fundamental level. Do they get your brand voice? Your mission, your target audience? Misalignment here leads to messaging that falls flat or worse, damages your brand. We don't want that. Are they just executing tasks or are they invested in your success? The best agencies act like partners, not vendors. This is a very, very important point. Partners, not vendors. Now, cultural fit. This might sound like fluff, but it's crucial. If their company culture clashes with yours, it's going to be a rocky road. And number six is of course focus on roi, not just the cost. Going cheap can be the most expensive mistake you make. Go value over price. The lowest bids often gets to the lowest quality. You're investing in your business's growth. Treat it that way. A good agency might cost more upfront, but will generate significantly higher returns down the line. And this is absolutely true. You cannot go to the cheap route all the time. And sometimes the cheap route is the most expensive route as you keep spending on months on end with no ROI or tangible results. Consider what it costs you to not solve your marketing problems. Every day you delay is you leaving money on the table. Think of hiring an agency as an investment, not an expense. The right agency should make you more money than you pay them. That is the whole purpose of an agency. So the bottom line is, take your time, do your homework. The right agency can skyrocket your growth. The wrong one will drain your resources. So again, just don't fall for the hype. Demand proof, get specifics. Make sure you guys are aligned. Prioritize communication, invest wisely. So make an informed decision because your business depends on it. Hope this video was helpful. And and like I said, I do run an agency.
