A short YouTube clip by Areeb Mirza (uploaded July 24, 2023) explaining the advantages of built-in ND filters on professional cinema cameras. The speaker contrasts external screw-on ND filters (which must match lens size) with built-in ND filters found on cameras like the Sony FX6 and other professional Cinema cameras; highlights convenience and an auto-ND feature that can automatically adjust exposure when subjects move between indoor/outdoor lighting.

Just want to quickly touch about the built in ND filter and I feel like it's a super cool feature that people don't talk about that much. So yeah, you can basically get an ND filter and put it on any lens. But the problem with that is you need to get a specific ND filter for that specific lens. They have different sizes but with a camera like this or something like the Canon Cinema camera, blackmagic Cinema camera, all the professional ones, they have a built in D filter which you can just activate it of like just with a press of a button. So it's a pretty handy feature. The super cool thing about this one is it has a built in ND auto filter. So basically what that does is like let's say I'm doing a shot where the actor is walking from an indoor scene, from an outdoor scene. I don't have to worry about exposing my footage manually. The FX6 will detect it and will automatically expose the footage correctly.
