Prime lenses have less distortion, faster apertures, and better depth of field control, making them ideal for portraits and low-light work. Zoom lenses sacrifice some optical quality for the flexibility of multiple focal lengths in one lens.
A zoom lens versus.
A prime lens. Which one should you choose? When choosing between prime and a zoom lens, you should always consider your shooting style and needs. Prime lenses generally offer less distortion, chromatic aberration and a better image quality overall. This is due to their simpler build and faster aperture. Prime lenses are ideal for portrait photography, portability and low light situations, while zoom lenses offer more flexibility. Additionally, prime lenses perform better in terms of depth of field and video footage sharpness as as they are designed to be sharp at one focal length.
