5 Know-Hows of Internet Marketing!

Aviya Arya shares personal stories and insights on discipline and success in internet marketing. The video covers marketing tools and startup ecosystem trends from 2016, with motivational reflections on what it takes to build in tech.
Hello and welcome to another episode of the Ask Aviya Arya Show. It is, we're almost in May, the year has flown by, time is flying. And it reminds me of a story that I read while growing up. I was, I used to think I was forced, but I was urged into attending a lot of scripture books or spiritual scriptures of India and I was urged to read the Gita the way, you know, all these books. And I used to actually have people coming in from, from different places every Thursday and I used to have these VED classes and all of that. I never really understood the importance of it except for the fact that I had a single minded focus at that point in time. That if my parents feel happy that I am attending something like this, let me make the most of it. But the people over there, the people who used to come and every other Thursday there was a different person coming in, they made it so interesting by storifying the whole concept and obviously all the Ramayanas and all the Vedas, everything that we read, we've seen that there are a lot of stories in it. One of the stories that reminds that, you know, sticks with me and has comes to the fore whenever I'm sort of running around and I, you know, trying to get my work done, trying to run Internet moguls, trying to do the Aska Vyaria show, trying to write the book that I'm writing, trying to do everything that I feel I want to be. You meet a lot of people, you get inspired, you want to be this. This. There was this story of a deer who used to smell something and used to love that smell. And he was so attracted to the smell, he hopped and he galloped and he ran across the jungle, far away from his roots, far away from where he was. And after spanning the whole jungle and running around everywhere, eventually he got tired of running around and he sat down. And when he sat down and he relaxed and he didn't have to run around much, the sense of that smell started growing more and more and eventually he realized that the smell was coming from a gland in his throat. So it was a great analogy used in the form of a story. Explain that in most cases, whatever we are looking for is within us. Any answer we are looking for is within us. Any clarity we are looking for is within us. Any confusion we have, the answer is within us. The other day I was speaking to a psychologist friend of mine and coincidentally enough, within the same week I met a startup who's got an app where he's connecting various psychologists with you, so you can choose people, spend, you know, from people who are charging $15 to $500 an hour and see their profile, see their picture, see their video. And if you feel comfortable, you start chatting with them. Or if you feel more comfortable, start doing a video with them. Which I thought was a brilliant idea because a lot of people are shy of actually going to psychologists. I don't think. I don't. I think it's a brilliant way of expressing yourself and, you know, untangling the confusion and thoughts that you have in your mind. And so I met the psychologist and I met somebody doing an app and both of them said that untangling your thoughts, that's what we do. People come to us and we just help them untangle their own thoughts. And that is because they finally, they feel they're sitting with us and we're giving them a solution, but they're basically sitting with themselves and finding their own solution. So I thought this was a story I should share as the first section of the new show, you know, every day at Internet Bogus, what we do is I was speaking to a very, very close friend of mine, in fact one of my closest friends, and we were talking about, I don't like to say HR and employee engagement and all of that and all of that because it sounds too cliched, although it comes under that spectrum of that umbrella. We do the Gayatri mantra every day in the morning and then we show a Sadhguru video or motivational video from Robin Sharma or Gary Venia Chak or Deepak Chopra, followed by a video on various technologies. And we repeat the same ritual. We call this ritual at interim, we do the same thing every day at 2 o'. Clock. So, so two rituals. Now, what that allows you to do is to uplift your mind. And once you uplift it, which means that all of a sudden you're alert, your senses start working, you're not just running through the day, you all of a sudden become excited about something. That is when the best information goes in. So if you want to train a child, an employee, a friend or whatever, you want to say something, idea is to heighten his senses to a level by showing him a motivational video so that he is more aware, more alert in life and then whatever he does produces more value. So the story I wanted to share was that what motivated me most in the recent video I saw at 2 o' clock today, shown by one of our team members, was that across the world, say about hundred years back when there was no telephone Maybe no Internet, no fax, you know, none of these communication gadgets which bring all of us together and, you know, knowledge together. Only 1% of the world's population was successful and made billions of dollars or whatever is the definition of success today. However, we are in 2016. And in 2016, there is an information overload. I can create a Skype conference with six potential partners for my business within 24 hours. I can just do anything I want. I just need to know what I want and today's day. And there is access to information. There is access to motivational books. There is access to the real life, the Facebook Live and Periscope and all of that. Leaders from, you know, motivational characters or people from Amitabh Bachchan to Gary Vaynerchuk to Robert Keesh or everybody in this world are going Facebook Live. And you can actually see what they're doing and get motivated with as they're living their lives. So it's so real time, it is so accessible, all of that. And today with all of that, guess how many people are successful if we take success and measure it with the same parameter? How many people are making a couple of billion dollars? How many people are doing well? The surprising answer that I learned, well, it's still 1%. And the reason is that although there are success formulas available everywhere in the world, it is just that 1% or maybe 2% people who actually take the initiative after learning all this information. Hundred years back, there was less information. Today I have access to more, but still there's only 1% or 2% people who actually get up from their assays and actually make decisions, take action, go to the gym in the morning. One of the things that I've learned from everywhere is, and I'm struggling with and trying to do is get up at 4 in the morning. Everybody says it's a game changer, and I want to try to do that, but this is what a lot of people struggle with, just doing that. So there's another motivational speaker I was listening to who said, I am lucky to be born in America and all of that, and I have the best. But he said, what if my counterpart or somebody like me was in a third world country and rotting away and he was looking for success and he was poor and all of that. And somebody told him, the only thing that you need to do to be successful in life and the only thing which will make you a rich man and take care of your children's education and is that you have to get up at 3 in the morning. Would the poor man not get up at three in the morning every single day? Because it's going to change his life? He would, right? Then why is it difficult for people like you and I to get up at 4 in the morning if we know it's going to change our lives? So because we struggle with so many disciplines in life, we remain maybe the 98% of the population which is not able to do what they achieve or, you know, what they want to actually what they aim to do in life. You know, everybody knows that. I'm in love with Gary Vaynerchuk and I follow him every single day, everywhere, all channels, all of that. But I've also started really, really being, I've started admiring Seth Gordon. He is just unbelievable because he makes, his thoughts are so different. One of the things that he said, and you must check out this link we want to put here where Chase Jarvis, the ace photographer, he's got a 30 day series of 30 days of genius. And every day he calls one speaker like Seth Gordon. I won't call him a speaker. He's an influencer to another level. So you must check that out. I'm going to put the link. But Seth Gordon says the person who created the ship also created the shipwreck. Now go figure that out. It was unbelievable. I don't want to take away from the surprise or the sheer delight that you will experience once you look at that link and look at what Seth Gordon meant when he said that. It is unbelievable. And I'm leaving it to you. I'm leaving the link here for you to figure it out. Unbelievable stuff. Now in this section I want to tell my viewers, my audiences about what's happening in the Internet marketing world. There are lots, lots, lots happening but I try to condense them down, try to get some real life, real time information. My feeler of the market, of the global market, my feeler of what's happening on my phone and everything. I go to the app store and I see what are the new apps coming in, which are the ones which are trending, Are they going to form patterns? What is happening? My daughter, my 10 year old daughter Raya wants to become a YouTube star. She's doing a lot of great videos. Most of the times, six to seven hours in the day, she's making musical LY's. So musically I'm going to link up the app here and I'm going to maybe link up Raya, one of Raya's videos as well here. Kids are going crazy on musical ly And I feel why not people like Karan and talented people like Karan and others, why can't they use short musical ly videos and you know, make a success out of that. So musically is a great app for you to get your message out there with music and all of that. I'm also falling in love with Anchor. What Anchor allows you to do is to sort of record your thoughts and you know, have be your own radio station and and you know, we have a few sometimes it during the day I want to say a lot of things. I can say it there and I can share it. It's like a podcast which is shared by a lot of people radio. So you can save it, you can share it. Anchor, great, great, great tool. You must check it out. But I also like to go to great startup groups which are run by very, very professional and very hard working people like Shivam Mahuja who runs the Delhi startup group. And Shivam actually introduced me to this company called Retreach. Now let me take you back and give you a perspective of what is happening in the ecosystem today. Let me take an example of hotels. Hotels have got booking engines. Booking engines are giving anywhere from 0.45 to 2%, 3% at best, revenues from their booking engines. And every hotelier says that I am. So this is my automated business. So you know, 0.45 to 3% and then they are fearful of the OTAs, which were maybe 20% of their business and in some cases it's 80% of their business today. So they're fearful of these guys taking over the entire business. And some people are not investing in their website. They don't know what's happening. So last year in 2015, I went to most of these people and I called them for a seminar and I told most of the hoteliers, why not start introducing it? Simple Tool, a chat option on your website. So most of the people said chat is great, but it's not automated. That means somebody has to sit behind the desk and answer. And my response to that was, my dear friend, dude, there's 4,000 people who are coming to your website. Only 4%, 2% are converting. The rest of them are leaving. There has to be some manual intervention. We don't have a budget for that. We don't have staff for that. Ridiculous. So just to prove to myself that we're on the right track and to prove to my team and to prove to the fraternity, I got a great chat software and I installed it for free at my cost on 12 of my hotel clients, 14 of our hotel clients, and I hired my own team, four member team to handle chat for these hotels. We tried it for three to four months. The conversions went up from two to seven and a half, in some cases, 10%. 10%. Aren't you there to make money? To make money, you have to put in some amount of resources. Even to the OTA, you're giving 10, 20, 30%. So why would you not want to hire somebody to take care of your chat? This was last year. The industry did not understand what I was trying to tell them. Now we are in 2016, Facebook has come up with a messenger app and all these bots and all of that are becoming automated. The future, which is the very near future, is going to become such that all these apps, all these chats are going to become so automated that 90% of the questions the app is going to answer without manual intervention, it's going to be only 10% where a manual intervention is going to happen. So this is going to automate more businesses and then more hotels and more travel companies. And if you're watching, you might be doing anything, electronic service industry, whatever, you will be able to automate your chats and be able to converse with more and more clients who are coming to your social media channel and your website. So your dependence may reduce from third parties and come back to your original websites if you employ these tools. Because our industry, the hotel industry, the travel industry, struggling from this. And I think 2016, 17, 18 mark the beginning of return to the direct website and direct channels, if all of these are used properly. So that was one insight that I had once I started discovering this and I started meeting more and more people. You know, they say, they call it serendipity, but a lot of people also say what you, what you think is what you, you know, you look at what your receipts, if you think you have a red car or if you're thinking of buying whatever, you start seeing those things in your life because your mind sort of focus zooms, zones out everything and, you know, zooms in only on what you need to focus on or what you're thinking about. So because I've been thinking of these alternate forms of getting revenue for my clients and on Internet marketing and what 2017 is going to hold. So I realized that apps are getting so difficult. Like you have to be. You have to spend a lot of money to have an app built. Sometimes you can build it for a decent price. But to market an app and to ensure that you're going to have an app on your phone is very difficult. Firstly the downloading costs are expensive and then why would somebody like you and I have an app which I'm not going to use more than two or three times, you know, which I'm not going to use very, very regularly. So an OTA app, you're going to use a book, my show type of an app I'm going to use. But a single hotel or single business, small business. So a lot of people started seeing small businesses. Apps are not for small businesses unless they can have hundreds of thousands of downloads. So with that new dilemma in mind, what are the new things which are coming in? So we started looking at new notifications. So a lot of people are sending notifications through, through your website. And that's how I came in touch with this company. Thanks to Delhi startup group.org, shivam Mahuja. He got me introduced to Vipul who's again a great guy. And Pipul basically explained that his system brings, it's just a line of code that you put on the website and then it ask for permission and then after you leave the website, wherever you go, push notifications can be custom made and sent to that person. So you don't need an app and you can actually start sending notifications. I thought it's a great tool. I thought it's a great marketing initiative. I think it will do really well. The name of the company is Let Reach and one of the founders I met was Vipul gar. Great guy, 21 year old. I wish I had the kind of clarity at that point in time. I'm also going to put a link to the video and maybe snapshot of the video here and that I did because I invited Vipul. I love the product so much. I invited him to the office, I made him a part of the Askar VRs show. We interviewed him. So here is the link after this video if you want you should, you know, I invite you to come and see what letreach is all about and see the interview that I had with Vipul. I've also done an interview with Shivam who is the founder of Delhi startupgroup.org and he gets about 25,000 new startup kids excited and he keeps doing a lot of work for them. Most of it is, I think all of it is not for profit. So great initiative. You must check out his website, you must reach out to him to see how you can do any work with or within the startup ecosystem in Delhi. New tools. Well, I already, I think I already said it in the part of the series I Anchor is a great app. It allows you to upload sound bites and send it to the world. It's like your own personal radio station in your hand must check it out. Musically is great to make short meshes of videos and combine it with music and very short and quirky ones. And it is or see the thing is millennials and below kids are all on all on these kind of apps. So if you want to reach out to influencers who in the next few years are going to become the real buyers and you know you want to be on those apps, you want to start building your brand on these apps. So Anchor and Musically is one and then I spoke about letreach. If you're a marketer or if you're the owner of a website, you must check out letreach.com it will help your business reach out to your customers even after they have left your website with notification without an app. I hope this section helped you.
