Conversation With Chetan || Part 1 || Avi Arya

Avi Arya talks social selling and video marketing, sharing how he built his Micro Video Mastery program. He covers the shift from traditional sales to social media influence and what mindset changes creators need to make.
Do you think people are really making those many videos now?
Purana Business, they're doing something new. They've lost it all. Yeah, they have to do something new.
Exactly.
And then there are people who've got nothing to lose. So it's a mindset game.
So today's episode is about helping sales team with the right kind of marketing content. As we all know, in the last decade sales has really changed and for good. Gone are those days where sales was about nurturing leads, cold calling first of all and then basically building those relationships through, whether it's networking and closing those leads. But now the times have really changed with the advent of social media in the last decade, social selling is the new norm. It's the sales 2.0 and it's all about really engaging with the customer, educating them with the right content, answering their questions, commenting on what they are talking about. Basically a lot of stalking on social media. And who better than Avi Arya to do our first episode on social selling? So Avi Arya has been at the forefront of social media link. He's been there, seen there and done it all. He's the leading social media influencer, in fact the top 25. And what all he doesn't do, he does a lot of things. He has his own agency, a 200 people strong agency he runs across the globe, gives workshops. He has a very, very popular MVM program, Micro video mastery program that helps budding entrepreneurs grow using video. And of course he's a family man, a very warm person and it's just amazing to see him and meet him. I mean, in fact the highlight of my day is always his energy. It's so infectious. I mean, what do you do man? Are you on steroids or something?
Yeah. So there are these drugs that I take in the morning and evening, then I start drinking in the afternoon.
That's how you keep it up. It's very hard to keep up with you all the time. So what's next? What are you doing now?
What am I doing now? Yeah, I think that I like to talk to people and social media allows me to talk to multiple people and if I use ads then I can reach out to millions of people. So your opportunity of a young boy who wanted to talk to people and so I'm just talking to people as much as I can. But the difference is that Japta ki medium muje Mila I turned 43. So from the time I was looking for a medium to talk to the world till now, life experiences, the family. I have a family. I have A I live in multiple locations. I live in two countries. I take about 104 flights a year. And I run boutique. I don't have large businesses, but I run small boutique businesses. They're all very different. Some of them are different in nature. All of that has allowed me to understand myself better, that I love everything. All I want is everything. I've not been drinking for a long time. I'm having more water and no alcohol. If I can, if I'm able to do all of that, then I have better, more energy to do more stuff. And so with that thought in mind, I'm doing everything. All I want is everything now.
Wonderful, wonderful. So great to know that. And as I was saying to the viewers that and the listeners is you've been at the forefront of it and you are the right person to talk about this aspect of social selling. You know, how it has changed over the last decade and how specifically you have seen that change. If you want to just talk about that and open this conversation.
Yeah. Shurum. I remember early 2000s, make my trip Yatra. All these amazing companies came into India. I was doing. I had a website called Cheapy Tickets India. I also thought, I'm going to become somebody very big with those websites and all of that. It was so easy to reach out to customers. You could give me any keyword and within a week it would rank and I would get results. But the challenge was people were not on the Internet.
Yeah.
People only start coming onto the Internet now, so easy. So you have to keep, you know, working at it. But the thing is, what I like today is that contextualize. For example, I know you and I are both fathers of proud daughters.
Yeah.
Now, if I want to reach, I know how you think. I know how I think when you have a daughter, you become a softer person. You become more caring and it's a beautiful life.
Absolutely.
If I want to sell T shirts today.
Yeah.
And say daughters are the best.
Yeah.
And I'm a proud daughter father.
Yeah.
And I can target it to people on social media who got daughters.
Yeah.
My T shirts will sell absolutely right tomorrow. If in some country there is a trucker strike, truck drivers having a strike, and I'm a T shirt company and I say truck drivers will win, you know, and I target it to them, they will buy. So today I can do anything, which is so contextualized and sell anything that I want to promote my message.
Yeah.
This is a big power. It's a fourth body power.
Absolutely.
And you've. And you've also Sold a lot of things. You like you started off selling you know websites as you were saying then technology, then strategy, then content. So you've seen like you know how early days people used to cold call. I bet you would have sales team who would do that.
I do it. I did that all the time. I used to do it.
Yeah.
So. So now that you know the content is the king. So what kind of like what was your first time like?
I had a chart. I used to say I'm going to meet three people every day. To Kabi uncle go auntie go Kisina Kisiko Phoenix. Can you introduce me to three people? What kind of people do you want to meet? I want to meet business people.
Yeah.
Who can help me with my digital marketing agency.
Yeah.
Digital marketing agency actually Internet websites. Then you reach out to somebody. I want to come and meet you Tuesday. Tuesday next Tuesday. So as a startup to be able to reach out to people was always difficult.
Yeah.
And upper calendar, May rose teen meetings, social media, everything changed.
Yeah.
I started sending out messages to people and saying meet me.
Yeah.
But people were not active on social media. I think about seven, eight years back I started using my cell phone. I put it out, I create a video. Hi Chetan, I want to meet you.
This is.
And I send the video.
Yeah.
And that's how I get my appointment. So I think life is a breeze after that.
After doing videos.
Business development day purchase clients go phone Karna. I mean today if somebody is able to do video selling for video for social selling everything is possible today.
Oh yeah.
So. So tell me honestly you used to stalk people and see like who have daughters and who have who used to drive street cars.
But I how I stalk people. How you have to stalk people is to understand what are the common habits.
Yeah.
Between us and Kisika birthday so obviously you have when you meet somebody then also you give them some greetings. Right?
Absolutely.
Happy Diwali by the way. You know Happy Valentine's by so there's something which everybody's celebrating. So yeah. I take a Mithai to you. There's a common bond.
Absolutely.
Now how do you find a Diwali every day?
Yeah.
Which is a common bond.
Exactly.
So that is by finding you know what people are doing on the Internet and somebody saying yes whatever he's celebrating that I also celebrate with him when I open my video call.
I think you rightly gave a segue to talk about videos because what you were saying like you do make videos yourself and the conversion rate of you know getting the meeting is a lot higher. And 2020 is pipped to be, you know, the B2B marketing videos. It's the year of the videos. It's saying. So do you think people are really making those many videos now?
Yeah. It could be a salesperson. It could be the vice president. Could be the CEOs of company. I can't name it here but I do a lot of coaching, consulting with people. People always like, can somebody else do the video of me? I said, can somebody else do the meeting? So people are not doing it because they're scared.
Yeah.
How will I be judged? What will people say?
Yeah.
And so they're not doing it as much as they should.
Yeah.
At the same time people, two kind of people are doing videos today. People who feel I've got nothing to lose.
Yeah.
And people who've lost everything. A lot of people at the age of 40, 45, 50 who will restart starting their life.
Yeah.
Purana business. They're doing something new. They've lost it all. They have to do something new. And then there are people who've got nothing to lose. So it's a mindset game. It's not vice president, CEO level, all of those games. It's a mindset game.
Yeah.
And how specifically in your MBM program you trying to change that mindset? I know people would come of all sorts, right. Some are like very shy. Some would be really out there. But you know, how do you really tell them?
So we have a program. We have a chapter. The first chapter of our program is shyness to awesomeness. How people go from shyness to awesomeness within seven days. So give them various exercises. One. One very simple thing is create a. What's everybody's got one friend in his life or one mother, father, husband, wife, touch board. Luckily you can say anything to that person for hours. And the person will listen to you.
Yeah.
Invite that person to a WhatsApp group. Just you and that person.
Yeah.
And call it shyness to awesomeness. And tell him, brother, I'm making this group to get over my shyness.
Yeah.
And then post five videos every day on that group.
Yeah.
Five videos. Hi Chetan, this is abhi. This is my first video. Actually the food was so good. You should try the. It is really good.
Yeah.
Okay, bye. Thanks. Do whatever video you want to make about the conversation. Jobi. Normal conversation. I'm going to sleep. Thank you for helping me. Day one is finished video.
Thanks.
Now Chetan is that one person who not judging you.
Yeah.
Shyness to awesomeness group you get one person who's not going to judge you. I'm getting better at it. Let's see how it goes. So that's one way of getting over it.
That's pretty incredible because I think I never thought about it. So you're just trying to, you know, get the problem to the root and solve it from there.
That's what it is. It's not that people don't want the money. They don't understand it. They're like, you know, actually, I need to lose some weight. Actually, you know, all kinds of excuses. All you need is a smartphone and there's got a beautiful camera and good voice. You don't need anything else. You are ready. But you know what a lot of chetan I was studying with a friend of mine two, three weeks ago. So we have this mastermind group. We meet every Thursday, different parts of the world and we study new things about life. One of the things was that people are scared of success. So it's a very good concept. We can discuss on that. So I find a lot of people with that also where I am a struggler. I don't want to get out of that.
Some psychological thing we are talking about there.
Exactly.
Pretty deep. So you're on TikTok now, man. Like you mean. I mean that embarrasses me also. Like, you know, I'm not doing it and you are doing it. How did that happen?
Like, you know, I'm not doing enough of Tick tock but I should do it because I met a couple of friends of mine who are, you know, influencers in the digital space.
Yeah.
I don't know. Million followers because TikTok is now it's easier to get organic stuff. I'm like a million followers. You can impact so many people with whatever you want to impact them with.
Yeah.
And if you want to do social selling, what better than you need the attention of the other human being?
Yes.
One million people. We're all in the attention game, right?
Yeah.
So I'm doing it for attention.
