DAY 03 - Meeting With KARAN SHAH || Founder @ IIDE || V-Log With Avi Arya

Avi Arya meets Karan Shah, founder of IIDE, a digital marketing training institute. They discuss personalized teaching methods, CRM systems for student engagement, and Shah's plans to eventually start a school alongside the institute.
So he's given a gift. How sweet. Akash. So he's given a gift. How sweet.
Akash.
And the team obviously headed by Karan from Iide. Oh nice.
SA.
Pretty specific. Everyone was there from name from Vedantu to simply learn to buy juice to upgrad.
I'm sure they're not half as personal as you. You're not personalized setup.
This is.
People can come and talk to you and say, you know this is not.
A corporate training or a online training company. This is a grassroots training school, man. I have started teaching when I was just out of college, 21. Teaching from a garage.
You still look pretty much.
Thank you. How old are you? 30. Okay. So when I started teaching when I was 20, 21 man. Out of my grandfather's garage, eight plastic chairs, eight students. I was a teacher. So I have grown from a.
So don't man. This is really. I'm. I. I love the ca.
Really.
It's such a beautiful.
Really. Thank you so much.
It should be showcased in you know one of those, you know like MTV good times.
A lot of movies actually get shot out here.
A lot of people have you know, drones issue. Because it doesn't feel like at all 2020 offices. I knew I was expecting this. You told me on the phone.
Yeah, it is very different and all that. Yeah, it's a very different vibe. We got very lucky with this place. You know since I. I started. I'm in the training business since I was 18. 18 to 21 I was doing like renting out places, calling other professors. Since I was 18. My college is close by. I used to take a rickshaw from this land, from this school every day. I used to see the school every day. Shut. It was my dream as an 18 year old to get this school. School. I actually landed it when I was 25.
Nice.
So it's for me this has been a journey. This school has been. There's something about when I took over. Yeah. When I took over the school there was this much dust through the school. Yeah. So it was a destroyed, dilapidated school. I invested in this school. It's a old furniture, old time. So it takes a lot, man. It takes a lot. But I love it.
But this is what a school is. This is why you want to go to otherwise whole experiences. Like the experience I'm getting on a boring chair and a boring corporate setup. I don't like those schools. So one of my dreams has been to set up a school in Vancouver outskirts.
Okay.
So it is so beautiful. It's like you Died and gone to heaven ten times over. You know and it's. So I'm calling the best teachers from around the world coming teach over there.
Nice.
So I mean, I don't know whether it'll happen, it will happen next year or never happen.
I don't know.
But the vibe has for me it has to be on the ocean. Yeah, it has to be on the ocean.
Wow. And that'll be cool.
Yeah. And it's not expensive if you go for five hours into the Indian.
Correct, Correct, correct.
So like you know, I just, me and my wife just drove down. We saw something for $8 million for 45 acres.
45 acres, exactly. Just $1.8 million. Wow.
Crazy stuff available. No means it's not really far. And so you have those kind of things that one year change your life kind of thing.
Wow, man. Yeah.
45 acres.
I'm in. I come.
You have, you'll have animals, you'll have everything. We run a dog rescue. So our first this thing was that me and my wife, we run rescued Hope you 6, 7, 8, 10 dogs coming home all the time. They get sick, we treat them, get them back, whatever, so. But my wife is a full time lawyer.
You spoke to doing my stuff.
So now we're looking at getting a farm where we can raise our dogs and make it into a serious thing. Like 60, 70 dogs, why not 100?
Wow, man, that's a great initiative.
So with that we want to do a school on, I don't know, some kind of like school or whatever. You said that I talk to this offline, so I don't want anything confidential to go online. When you have this, when you have your people calling and getting your confirmation on the phone and everything, you have a batch system, right?
Yeah.
So somebody said I want to join now, whatever. I join somebody else.
You're pushed up to the next batch. We have a end to end CRM, Right. It tracks everything.
What do you use?
Fresh desk, fresh dates. It's an end to end CRM. We have a marketing automation, a CRM. Everything is in place. All softwares talk to each other.
So no lead in that sense is.
Ever not called amazing. It's impossible.
That is so. That is such a big statement you made on camera.
Because I'm a digital marketer, I know.
Exactly. The thing is that's what people do. People are like hot leads of the day and then people forget.
Exactly.
Ask quality about these day millions like people's databases.
Yeah. So every person I must be clocking roughly 15,000 free learners per week.
Free learners.
15,000 free learners.
What's a free learner?
Someone who watches like a one hour course of mine. Yeah, anything between 10,000 online.
YouTube?
No, through my. You have to sign in whatever lead and then watch a video. It's on my web page, my website.
Okay, so that comes through Facebook ad.
No, man. If I want to run Facebook ad, it actually comes out from email marketing and pop ups on my website and my chatbot. Great.
So these people come and learn and they're like, hey, I like this style of learning.
Then they build up a feedback form and basis that we qualify them.
And then there's a new team which.
Calls them and re. Qualifies them and makes. Makes. Makes them go each and every stage of the funnel there. We know it, right? Free webinar ads. Free webinar. $10. $100. $1,000. This is Red. And for you and me.
But let's do something in Canada for sure.
You know, I actually got my first two students from Canada recently.
Oh wow. That's true.
That I'm going to find Indian.
Indian.
Indian guys. Indian guys. Yeah. Region guys. Currently it's 105. That.
That is a very big achievement. Just imagine somebody's in Canada and they actually value a Indian institute.
Yeah. We're shocked.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
That is a job well done.
Yeah. So this is all because of SEO, man. To be honest. Type anything on your phone.
Really?
Type anything. I challenge you, huh? Yeah. Okay. Accept the challenge. Type. You type digital marketing course in Canada.
No way.
Type anything, dude. Type your city. Type your family city. Type. Any city can take off, man. After the ads, okay? After the ads. SEO.
SEO.
Don't very.
This is a. What are you saying? This is what people, every film director, everybody who makes their millions or billions, they have a vision that I'll do something like this. This building in itself is so damn cool, man. It is so many things. It's like you're sitting in Pondicherry or Goa somewhere. You own the whole city and everybody's saying people are staying with you. You know, like, you know, the vibe I'm getting is like when the Pandavas went to their. All the rajas used to send their children to coaching schools.
Correct.
So they come here. They're here for 18 years. You teach them archery, you teach them moral. And then at the end of 18, you deliver a student then say, yeah.
You the next king. No, man, we tried doing that, but yeah, I really love this place as well. And we've grown a lot. You would actually Love the other schools. All my schools have had a very similar vibe really.
And they're all Bombay.
All Bombay. So in South Bombay, at Churchgate, at Marine Drive. I don't know how much you know about the city.
Well I do know Albania like a few hundred times. Okay so I know.
So over there is a very far one of Bombay's most popular college, Jain College. We had like two and a half floors of the house. It's like a five star college. Two and a half floors. Brilliant. And you know how you want CVU full CU from all my classrooms, from all my offices at a 23 seater out there. Massive CVU.
So do you have any co founders here?
No, I've done that but I have a super team. Yeah, our rock solid team. Yeah.
You have people with you since the beginning.
Yeah. My. My A team. My entire A team. I would say the A team is of 14 people and out of the 14 people 12 of them are more than three and a half years each.
Give me a second. I just need to send a message to my next upon. You know Vivek communicate to now Prophet B. I'm meeting him but I'm not running late so I. I don't tell.
Him.
I need to still get.
No no no no seriously I am absolutely fine because I need to eat.
Last but acidity is the concept of human life man.
No no. What we doing? You're right I but I. My thing is that I'm on a very strict workout and I have my trainers chatting with me because I don't want to try miss even one day.
Interesting.
Yeah so last night we. Every part of my body, my hair is hurting. So in the morning we made a promise. I said I'm going to be we on a omad for next two days.
Okay.
One meal a day.
Okay.
So the evening we have an Internet focus meetup. All those people have taken my courses but I never met them. About 4550 people coming to some coffee shop.
Oh nice.
I don't know where but somewhere in Bombay. Yeah I know. Next time I you you know what is.
Yeah you can and all my classrooms actually open up so you can take up 120 people together. It's a functional classrooms.
I will. I just you know one of the students said that let's do something you're.
Coming to as a teen next time please be.
Feel free to use my profile. Definitely take care of that.
We can fit 13040 people.
That's amazing.
So.
So Nikhil was a great amazing. He like a Olympic Level athlete and all that. He started training and I was teaching. I actually taught him how to do.
Webinars to do to you know, to improve his health.
He changed everything completely. So he's just like now he's like a friend who just saying I want to do what you want. When you're in California, you here. So I said, you know this thing 200 pushas, 200 days. 200 days in the morning, evenings, you know of crazy, you know, cagene.
Wow.
So k once a meal, evening protein is all set. That's what's happening. Okay then I'll leave as a parents of.
Yeah, that's a our.
Yeah.
These are like our classrooms. And now we're preparing them for all my zoom students are here, projections are here.
And then we're teaching them online and.
Online architecture.
Sounds gone.
All this is asking. So all our teachers now.
Are different sets.
Sam.
Careful, watch your step. Don't fall.
So yeah, this is our back bunker. This is called Cookie Nothing yet. It's just like Alibaba, you know those caves, new aspects opening and yeah. You go from one room to another room to another. Actually everything is interconnected. There are fake walls put everywhere.
So different teleporters following me at different times. But they'll know that.
Yeah, everything is integrated.
So that's when I said, you know what's going on? Actually I'm in Maldives with my family.
So it'll be there. He'll be there in my system. It'll be recorded.
So next time somebody else calls. But why does somebody else call? Because this person you give him, they're not.
No. So it's split into teams and let's say five people are calling X kind of lead. So today if you know Shivani is not there, then today Karan is there. Karan is not there. Tomorrow Amar is there. Someone's calling it. Someone resigned. Someone moves so many things.
Right.
But how do you decide if somebody says, you know what don't call me, call me.
So it will. I'll put you into a lead which is like two months later.
Right.
Then you will come automatically into the system two months later.
So when these people come to work.
Yeah.
Do they have to really put in what they have to do for the next day? Notes or whatever. The system tells them what to do next day.
The system tells them you just log into your system. You will instantly see like you just log into the system only Digital marketing, man. I have realized that everyone who's into doing digital marketing is doing two, three different things. I think the One reason why we are winning what we're winning is because we are only doing one thing and we're only making it more premium by the day. We're not defocused.
We don't have five things going on.
Nothing like that.
Offering a placement guarantee is what the largest institutes are not able to do.
We can very easily do that. Okay, so let's say we call them later. Are they unqualified?
They're.
We don't want to talk to them. When were they last contacted? Everything is there. I'll show you some other leads. Literally everything from all leads from.
How do they know that? What's that work for the day?
They have their own leads every day three extra staff man, I don't need to. It's very cheap and this is system we have is pretty cheap. So you can use Exotel, Amio, any of these or plug and paste are using there.
You use the exotel.
No, by using slash.
Slash.
I think this is slash. I'm not sure. No, I'm not really sure. So it's like a pop up, it comes on the screen all day. I'm not really sure. No, this is fresh connect. This is where everybody chats with each other for hot leads and they're passing the lead on to each other. Everything in my organization is on systems. Nothing runs manual.
So if you have to send everybody home, they can go home and just continue.
Everybody can. I have three and a half, 3200 students studying digital marketing premium. I'm not talking about like free learners, online paid learners. And they're managed by three people on 1:1 software.
Who are the three people sitting there? No, three for what?
Three service people. As a service, three servicing people. Servicing 3,000 plus students for their questions and for their coordination, for teacher mapping, for their everything. Because it's all software driven as an app, as a web version, everything like in my case, something I take pride in. So let's say all my subjects are like 10 hours, 15 hours. If you sign up for my course, you'll learn 15 hours website, then 15 hours SEO. After every 15 hours there's a feedback form if you want to see the marks of how much you score in your website exam. First fill up the teacher's feedback form. You fill that form. Let's see if the form score. If the teacher scored 8 out of 10 safe. If it scores 6 out of 10, my chief learning officer will get an email. If it scores 4 out of 10, I'll be getting an email. So it's all automated the minute he gets an email, a new class, there's a ping coming on my cost manager. This thing saying schedule new class, students unhappy, pool over feedback. There's a new class coming.
That's amazing.
And it's all automated. It's all automated end to end. Man recorded URL.
It comes automatically.
Yeah, it's all automatically.
And.
And here is the entire lecture with some professor teaching. So if you miss your class, in case you miss you can just come out here and you can along with this I. Oh this is Akash. Yeah, it's Akash. And for lectures that are upcoming you will just find your link and there's not a correct link.
So teachers are also on their toes because they know that you're getting a feedback at the end. I didn't like it.
Continuously, continuously, continuously. Students, they can't see their exam scores. So if I give a test at IIT for every subject I can't see my results till I don't fill the feedback from the teacher. We put a rule out there. So every teacher, we Collect feedback every 15 hours no matter what.
So quality cannot go down.
It just cannot go down. Right. And we've converted all our content. So this is all the live sessions and these are all our videos. So now if you wanna. It's all locked on because the course is only.
So let's say if you want to watch reference material then you can just see the reference material over here. But this is like the admin view. So yeah you can just log in.
And.
The course expert.
But I understand. Very cool.
So yeah.
And then every. No, no, take him to. That's how three people give his a grade. Because it's not like a different teacher teaching multiple places. So every lecture you'll see a different teacher coming in. Out here there are like 50 topics. Every topic is a different teacher. Video lectures followed by live. And now show him a book.
My mentor.
So, so first students watch videos. Then they come live for problem solving. And then last.
Even if you do this format offline, we also do this for offline now. So teacher then is only.
Teacher teaches videos. Students come out here only with their projects. Sure, only with their projects. Teacher facilitates the projects they present in class. And that's how we are a grade in our soft skills. Most institutes fail because they don't have students who have good English communication, English writing. But all my kids go through presentations.
Interesting.
Right?
What's this?
So this is the doubt solving. So let's say if a person has.
Any question, where's that button from?
There.
So I have to log in from the student here.
So go.
Let's log into Ashutash.
Yeah.
So now you're a student. You finish your video lectures, you finished your live lectures. You're still confused. You click on book a mentor, it'll straight open up for you. You choose whichever teacher you want. Select any teacher out here and you book his time. There's a link Google calendar created and then you straight me the details even.
Available for the 84000 rupee.
Yeah, yeah.
The 4.72 lakh guys.
Bodybuilding. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good one.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate it.
By the way, before you leave, there another part of the business that you did say.
I did. I did.
It's all my corporate training.
Oh, oh. So you.
I train every employee that works at. When I say I mean the entire every employee who works at. I'm talking about 900,000 employees.
Great.
Any message to Karan and team for the sweet gift?
You know what I think? What a what? Good upbringing. Multiple times. Your trip is going to be another 40 minutes. Would you like to go to the bathroom? You care about the other. You're practical and you're offering. You know, you're making it comfortable for somebody who came to your office. Otherwise most people say it's transactional. But he is coordinating with Rohini to say what is Abhijit going to eat? Then he's making sure that Harry and Abhijit get what they want. Protein, non protein, black coffee. Then I said I'm going 40 minutes ahead. These are small, small things which show that a person is a good person. So I have a good time having a meeting with the people. I don't care about anybody being a millionaire or a billionaire that I'm making alliances and friends with good people. I think Karan is a good guy running a good systematized company. I learnt a lot and I think he's a man to watch out for and I'm sure we'll be doing big things together.
Sam.
