The Saturday Mania, To Be Or Not To Be!

A monologue on whether Saturday should be a working day or holiday, weighing startup culture demands against productivity and the challenge of serving global clients across time zones.
SA and everybody's mind, especially mind more. What should you do on a Saturday? Should it be completely a holiday or should it be a working day? In true spirit of social media, I put it up on Facebook and I got some 90 odd comments from people saying obviously having mixed reviews. Most of the people said that the productivity goes up because you get a good two day rest and people come back happy and motivated and all that. And I believe that, I think that if I got a two day break I would come back more motivated, happier, you know, looking forward to the next week and all of that. But in today's fast paced, fast changing, dynamic startup culture, how we have the luxury to take two days completely off? When you're working with clients in different parts of the world who don't care about your Saturday or your Sunday and they like UAE works, starts on Sunday, day in and day out. I mean I think people are, people have three shifts or maybe the other idea is to have different shifts, some people coming on Saturday and the other people coming on. So this has always been a dilemma, not being able to sort it because the customer, being the king, needs to be serviced at all times. In fact we at Internet mogul, what we've done is that we have people coming in at 4 o' clock in the evening and they're going back at say 12 at night because the customers, when they get up in the morning, the delight factor is that they see that the work that they gave at 5 o' clock or 4 o' clock or post lunch was done in their inbox next morning. That is what customer delight is, that is what will keep us in business. And as long as the business thrives, all the members of the business will also do well. So should it be five days, should it be six days? I don't know. Through the show we'd love some comments on this. And if it is five days, if most people recommend five days, then how to manage customer expectation. I'd like to know how mid sized companies around the world which are dealing with clients in different time zone are handling these challenges because it's also very necessary for your important crucial morning meetings or to have your key stakeholders. So if you have, if you have a broken up system where you have a shift system, you might find it difficult to get all the stakeholders together. And I don't think all the time it works very well on Skype and phone and all of that. Working from home for sure. I think in India it's a complete farts, it doesn't work at all. So work from home Saturday. I'm sure many entrepreneurs have that deliver. And so do I, Sam.
