What Are The Attributes Of A Good Revenue Manager?

Gaurav discusses what makes a good revenue manager in hotels. The conversation covers the qualities and experience revenue managers need, plus strategies for building guest loyalty in the hospitality industry.
So Gaurav, tell me in your experience today, revenue managers, people, everybody wants to revenue is a function that is for the gm, for revenue manager, for reservation. Everybody has to take care of revenue. But today people who are getting into, you know, hotels like yours, what's the advice that you would give them? You know, what kind of experience are you looking at people? Like if somebody comes to you as a social media person or a revenue person, what is the minimum experience you're looking at or the attributes or you know, what's the quality we should have?
The person should be except knowledge and little experience in his own field. The person should be open minded. He should be flexible towards the new ideas, speak to people. Right. Get the industry moved. He should not be saying previous hotel, I used to do that. I can't change because I've been taught in that sometimes I also become stubborn. But you know, the idea is to keep them.
Yeah, keep learning, you know, relearn, unlearn.
And that kind of a process.
Right.
Whatever you learn, keep it aside, learn new things, move on. And yeah, that's the idea. And presently for this particular set of I'm looking at somebody who's pretty strong and have his basics clear. If I'm taking, I generally take at C. I generally take people with at least four or five years of work.
Okay.
Minimum, I would say.
Right.
But that's not the only criteria. My entire criteria is the person should understand the process. He should understand what he wants to do.
So and when it comes to guest loyalty, because today everybody is talking about OTAs are taking over and all that. So what do you do for guest loyalty?
For us, at least 40, 45% of our guests are repeat.
Wow, how do you do that?
It's I think thanks to the team leaders really take care of the guest. They would come personally ask for that person at the time of check in, where is he, what shift is he doing, like medium minimum staying or not. So it's. We are very small. So we don't do, you know, we can't compete ourselves to the Tajis or the Roys. But we get very personalized. We get into the basics, basic needs of the guest. We take care of the guest from the time they've arrived and that they leave. Because we have a lot of people who come from medical tourism, right. So we, they stay with us for a month or so. We had a couple who stayed with us at least six months last month, last year, on and off. Indians from Africa types. Six months they stayed. And it's not about the price?
Sure. Yeah.
It's not about the price.
