Hi, everybody. Welcome to our podcast, Black Women Business. Today we're doing episode four and it's about doubts, fears and epic failures. Today I have a lovely surprise for you. I've got somebody joining me. So today we are joined by my good friend Nandimlala. So she's going to be with us while we discuss the doubts, fears and epic failures. Mostly what we'll be doing today is answering the questions that have been given to me.
They've been hitting me from all over.
Everybody's asking questions. They're coming in at such a rush. So I've grouped them to the ones that we've received thus far. So I'll give Nandi an opportunity to introduce herself. But the questions today we'll be addressing will be coming from Karen Nosandla, Gail. So we've grouped them up and now Nandi, give it a go.
Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Tuli, I just first want to say to you, I want to first thank you for this opportunity. I think I'm very, very touched by it. I was like, wow, Noctula, why did you think about me? But I guess since we've known each other for the time, you know, what I've been through, you know, through with the business. My name is Nandi. As Notula has already said, my name is Nandi Nala. I'm from Cape Town, born and bred in Cape Town. I'm currently living in Johannesburg. I've been living in Johannesburg for the past 20 plus years now. I'm a mother of three, married, and yeah, I'm a working woman who is also running a business on the side. Thank you.
Okay, thank you, Nandi, for that Nice intro. Listen, Nandi, I want them to know how you and I got to know each other.
You know, in this hustling world, you meet different people, you know? You know, when I met Dr. In Cape Town, I was busy planning for an event. She was busy also doing her own thing on the side. And I know that one of those years, it was like such a disaster, you know, it was such a disaster. I think when I met her, her heart was almost going to come out of her chest. You know, it was so difficult and. But though, even if she was going through that, she had so much good ideas, she had so much energy in her, you know, she was willing to help me. You know, I like overlooked what she was going with and I grabbed her for myself because of the energy and.
The information she had, you know, Nandi, when I thought about this episode and I thought epic failures, I always think about this failure for me, that was the one of the major ones. And already you popped into my mind. Because every time when I fail, and I fail quite often, hence so when I fail, I always think about that event.
Exactly. But you know what? It's not a failure. I always say failures are stepping stones to success. Because if we don't fail, we don't learn. Yes, we remember them as failures. But if you didn't fail, do you think would have been where you are today?
No, no, no, not quite.
Exactly.
So in that instant, I was actually trying my hand in an event.
And we wanted to go big. We wanted to go big. Yeah.
We hired out the farm. I, I did a lot of work.
Trying to find billboards, the billboards, the sponsors, sponsors and everything.
And everything was going quite well. We were trying to find the artists. We found three artists and we put them on the billboard and we were doing all the work. But suddenly the sponsors wanted, wanted. You know, that event was mostly a black people's event. So what we needed was for people to buy tickets. And ticket sales were a big thing. But we know that black people come.
Last minute to buy tickets. And that thing of black people coming last has killed me. It's one of the things that has made me fail. Because you've got this mentality of people buying late, buying late, and yet, boom, last minute they don't even buy.
Wow.
So for me, it was like the.
Sponsors wanted to see the ticket sales were high.
That's what they see.
I managed to attract four sponsors. One of them was a winery and they gave lots of wine and the other one gave lots of money. But then they wanted to see that the ticket sales and I couldn't prove that the tickup sales were going up.
You will say to them, no, I know, but black people buy last minute tickets. That doesn't work in the business world at all, Nanda.
So that one became a failure for me and more mostly because it was so in the people's faces. It was so advertised.
Yes.
And I, I started seeing it with people that I've never like, met before. Like saying, hey, do you want to.
Come to this thing? I'm like, oh, that's my event. You know, it had gone so, so well with marketing, but when it comes.
To retaining the footage, nothing, Nothing. So we had to cancel that event. And that's when we, you and I met.
Yes.
And I was so shattered when we met.
I know, but I so down and under because. Because you invested your, your time, you invested your emotions, you invested money into it. And then it's so hard to see something that you so much dedicated your time into just goes up in flames. And it does go up in flames. That is the most painful thing. So.
Yeah, well, but for me, I. I always think that you are. You are completely crazy.
I know to be in this industry still after so many years, I am still here standing. I'm still here standing.
I'm still here standing.
And, you know, when I look back, I always ask myself, how did I manage. How did I manage to get through that? I mean, for instance, I don't know whether we're going to be going into questions now, but one of the. My biggest failures, you know, I started this thing, I think, in 20 2009.
And. And.
And I always said to myself, you, the first person to go and do an event is my hometown, which is Cape Town, because home is home, you know. You know that you're going to be getting a lot of something support. People are going to be loving you, you know, a lot of people, you know, you're just A word of mouth is not going to move your event.
I think the first one I did.
Was beautiful because I think I did that one through the schools. It was well attended. I don't want to lie. That's when the excited started. And then people said, no, no, no, no, they must come back in December. Because I know it was the month of October.
And they said to me, no, no.
No, you must do another one. Do another one. You know, when people are saying. And then you get excited, but why people. This one is come back December. And I forgot. And they also forgot that. But December, it was a nun show. I had 40 people Noctula. We didn't even have money to come back to Johannesburg.
Oh, my word.
I'm telling you, I had borrowed money from friends to do the event. I owed people money, you know, because people died because they said, ahman, the first one is successful, you know, so, no, no, no, we're gonna get our money, you know, oh, my God, if.
I didn't d. You'll never die. I was supposed to have died.
I mean, I would walk in malls talking to myself, and tears will fall down my cheeks. And I remember one day the other lady said to me, sister, what's wrong? She said that maybe somebody has died. Did you lose somebody very close to you? What's happening? She made me go, like. Because I lost everything. And I was like thinking that, where do I start? How do I begin? I don't even have a cent on my Name. It's January.
Kids must go back to school.
Food, transport, bonds, electricity, everything. And there was nothing, Nothing, nothing. That was my biggest failure.
That was the worst.
That was the worst.
But you bounced back, Nandi. Look at the ones that you've done that we. I've been attending the one at the Castle, the Women's Day.
Oh, goodness me.
Or the kids.
Oh, my goodness, the kids. That's the day I've divorced K. I divorced my hometown. I said, you know what? Because what was even making me angry is that I. I went out of the stadium and I just walk around NY6 and just to go and see where are the people? Where are the people? I mean, I know there crazy kids in Gu.
And I found the kids playing in.
The streets, parents jamming at the jamming places, sports in Gulech, you know, not even interested of what's going on there. You know, you get the biggest sun because you want to crowd. My goodness. I was like. I was like a zombie.
Like, but there are people here. Why are you calm?
I mean, I thought I would get the most support from my home. And then that's the time I decided that I'm divorcing Cape Town. I'm never ever gonna come back and do anything.
And we did it in Langa. And look.
And then fast forward years come and open a park in Midland, a fun park in Midland. And then there's this woman from Cape Town that are here, one of the women that was beyond. And then Leander says to me, I love what I'm seeing here. Blah, blah, blah. Why don't you bring it in Cape Town? And I said, been there, been there. No, I'm not gonna do that. And she says to me, no, Nandi, don't tell me about Kukuletu. I'm from Langa. Come and do it in Langa. I'll show you. Yes, we will support, because we will come out and said, no, no, no, not Tula. And I gave her all the negativity, the transportation cost, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And she was nagging me and said, calm down.
Oh, my word, calm down.
We'll show you what support is. And I'm like, it's even small Mana, so this one is playing with me. Then my husband said, no, man, just try it again. You know, try it. You never know. Just try it. Just show, you know, a stone in the sea and see how many fish you'll be able to catch. This woman and her friends worked as if the event was theirs. Just like what you did for me. They were like, nandit, I said, if. I said, I want this, they jumped. I want this. Their own time, their own petrol, their own, their own monies at times, you know. But I'm telling you, that was the birth of Kids Festival Cape Town.
Oh, wow.
And now it's become an annual event. Every year, December or October, we are in Cape Town to do that Kids festival in Langa. And now other communities are pulling in. No, I don't bring it in San Fontaine. Why don't you bring it in, Mrs. Plain? Why don't you bring it in Athlone? Why don't you bring it back into blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, oh, okay, fine. Then maybe one, one day, you know, we're gonna split it up. But I just felt that Langa is the home of it.
Yeah.
Because that's where it was born. A bounce back.
Yes. Oh, I love that. I love that. So let's jump straight into the questions. I'm gonna start up with a question. Noni tells me she's got. The problem is that she knows what to do. She knows what she must try out bad. There's too much. She's overwhelmed by the fear and the doubt in herself. Is this thing really gonna work? What if it doesn't work? What's the worst? Like when it really doesn't work? She's also still employed in the medical field. She's tried out a few things, like catering, but she hasn't thrown herself at it, you know, and, and, and made it her own. I think she's been with partners before, but this time she wants to really start something with what. But the doubts and fears are overwhelming for her.
It's, it's, it's, it's never an easy journey. Okay, There's. We have been brought up in a society where it says you must go and work an 8 to 5 job. That's where your success is. That's where you're gonna get your money. That's where you're gonna. Even the education system is still doing that even today, that people must go, start and work, get degrees and go and work 85 job. So now think of it, now that you're gonna start, start getting away from that, pulling away from that. That's not going to be an easy thing to do because you're already in this mentality. So, Noni, this is what I'm going to tell you. First of all, you must ask yourself, are you doing this for money or are you doing this because you've You've got passion for it. Well, some people get into businesses because they, they see Noctula doing it and just doing very well and just making so much money and thinking, I can do that. You know, I can be a caterer. People are making catering and they're making, making a lot of money. No, you must have passion for it because remember there's the behind the scenes. Yes.
Where you have to wake up and.
Peel the vegetables, go and buy veggies, be at the fruit and vegetables in so much time. You must bite. You know, all these things that you need to do. Okay. So you must first be very passionate about what you want to do. Secondly, do research about what you want to do. Okay. Do research and also have money to what to start what you want to do. Once you've got all of those things in place, then say to yourself, okay.
How much do I earn?
I earn 5,000 rents a month. Take 5,000 rents times 12, put that aside and add another 30 on it in your bank account so that when the rains are, when the dies are, days are dark, you know you've got like a kitty, a kitty box. Put some money aside. And Noni, you first do it the first 12 months while you're working. If that business can be able to pay your salary while you're working and have money extra, that's the time then you're gonna have to resign.
Yes.
Don't resign when the business can't give you what your salary is and extra. That's the first thing. Number two, because you have to give it all, sister. You can't work and run it. Something is gonna lack somewhere or somehow depending on the industry that you want to go in. So give it. Or if it means work your Sundays, work your Saturdays, work over time because remember, you've got the eight to five in between. Get somebody who will be running the other things while you are in the office. Get an intent.
Yeah.
You know, speak to Cedar City, that's got intents that can give to you for free. Siddha will pay them for you. Get an intent to do the other ad hoc things that you can't do while you're still at the work. So I know it's going to be very overwhelming, but at the end of the day, if you love it with all your heart, you are not going to fail the way you think that you might fail.
Yes, yes. And I think you've covered also the two other things mentioned by Karen and Nosanza about Ubunzim and the toughest toughness of entering Into a business. You know when at. Right at the beginning, Nandi, when you wanted to start this thing, because some of the ladies, they are there right at the beginning when you are thinking, I'm going to plow my energy into something extra, what gave you that extra push to overcome that doubt? Because there's always that voice you must.
Remember that say, yeah, who do you think you are? Listen, there's two voices in your mind. Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are? I mean, I'm in a foreign country, if I may put it like that. I've got language barriers number two. I mean, back in the day, I didn't even know what, what they said when they were greeting me. I didn't even understand what they were saying back then. And I'm sitting this on a. But you know, when the seed is planted into you, when the seed is planted into you and that voice gets bigger and bigger, that man, you can do it. 90, you can do it. That's why you have to give yourself.
A trial and error first.
Before you go all out, give yourself a try and error. And you feel that, you feel that the kitchen is too hot for you. Then say, you know, eight to five, girl, it's not for you.
It's not for you.
Because remember, the hustling is not for everybody. It's not for everybody. And you must be a risk taker. You must. You must be a risk taker and you must have a thin skin. Because that day when I was crying in the mall, when I've lost everything, you know, that was the last time I did it like that.
Yes.
After that I cried internally. I would smile, I would blossom. And someone asked me, are you really telling me that you just lost about what, 150,000? I said, yes, I lost 150,000 and it didn't show, you know, and you must be a very strong mentally, mentally, you must be a very strong person. Guys, starting a business, not easy. It is not easy. But fight that voices. Answer those questions. Yeah.
And I think also this thing about fighting the voices, sometimes we like to engage ourselves with people that are not. They are actually part of the voice that is making you weak. And we must just find ways of avoiding, remember, people There are going to.
People, your friends and your family will be the first people that are going to say to you, yeah, you think you can be able to do this? But they are forgetting one thing.
This is a seed bundle into you.
This is something you've got passion for. They've seen the things that you just do. Because you are a human being. You have to do Your A to 5 because you studied for this. But that's not where your passion is, remember? So they've seen the flops you've done there. They've seen that sometimes.
Let them give.
You what you are passionate about. I'm telling you not to wake up at 2:00am you do. You do.
You wake up.
You don't even sleep. I will sit at my computer until three And I said it's three o'. Clock, they must give me a project to do for work.
I love it. I love it. You know what, Nandi, this goes to the second question also about doubting and fears. Mostly. She says she's got her eye on this other business. But now eight hours in a day she's at work and then she needs to go back home. The whole cooking. She's sitting in the traffic. By the time she's. It's late, she's exhausted. How is she going to.
You don't get exhausted about something that you love. You get home, for instance, you make plans.
You.
You peel your vegetables during Sunday. You peel everything. You put them in the fridge, you make them prepare, read so that you just had to take them out. You warm this. Just do your meat. Yes. And you learn to do easy meals. Okay? Quick meals. You learn to do quick meals and also not to. As I said to you. Do you know that when you're doing your own thing, you don't feel the time.
You don't.
You don't get hungry, number one, you don't feel the time because you are so passionate about it. You. Because remember, you are the only one that's got the vision of where you want to go. You will work. No, I will get in my office early in the morning from 12 o'clock lunchtime. I'm no longer doing my work. I'm doing my own things. And once I start to say I'm doing my fun world things. Not till I don't stop. You won't.
You won't. No.
You know, guys that I don't stop. Time is nothing and even. And also the other thing people should know. Guys hold. Don't. First time. No. Do it yourself. So you could know when they're doing it wrong. Because if you're gonna at the beginning, employ a lot of people, you won't know what they're doing wrong because you don't have it in you. You've seen me in my event.
I do, I do.
Sometimes I get so dirty, people think is This a woman that's doing this event? No, man, but we want to expect to see you very pretty with names. No being the guest. You can't be the guest in your own thing. You do it yourself.
You know what, Nandy, what I like about what you say, it reminds me of a time when I was also working shifts at Kuberg. I used to be excited when I work night shift because I know that daytime I can really focus on my business things. It's got to the point whereby ask my supervisor if I could just spend some time at the procurement department. And I went to find out who's the procurement manager at Kubrick at the time. And I. During the day, I would sit in on their meetings. I would be allowed to be floating around. I used to get so excited.
You, Jana, when you're doing something you love noctura, you get so excited.
You get so.
It's for instance, me, whenever, wherever I go as an event person. If I see that, that thing, I already stand up and fix it. Do this because it's in me. I can't sit down and be a visit in my own space. You know, that's why I'm saying, guys, don't do it for the money. Do it for the passion. And then the money is gonna come.
Oh, I don't know. I don't agree with that one. I don't know if you listen to my last podcast, Nandi.
I did, but let. Okay, let me see. Let's agree to disagree. Okay, let's agree to disagree. I promise you not give it all. Okay. Money's gonna follow you.
You can't convince me, Nandi.
Let's just move on. Let's move on from this one.
All right, so was saying that I was talking about the time spared. And also another thing she brought up was the whole story of she now wants to find out more. She's very learned. She's academic.
Okay.
So she likes. She's stuck in research mode. If I can just put it like this. She's researching. Researching into. Doesn't get to application time. Yeah, application time. And also she's going finding out from the people that are already in that business. They are staying away from giving her information. I did explain to her that it's because you're gonna be competition. They don't want you to come in. So I think for me to start in any way, just start, my man.
You can't research forever. Most serving something. As I said, I'm gonna always come back to this word, you. It's something that you're passionate about. Guys, it's just going to come naturally. You have to research about it. I agree with her, but you can't research forever. You have to start now. Start, start. Just start, you know, just start.
Start.
As I said, start small, you know, start. Test yourself. As I said, test. Trial and error, you know, do it, baby girl. Get it. I mean, for how long do you want to research it? There's no time frame for researching for any business. You just have to know ABCD and.
Go and then go and then go.
You know, start the things that you can't research forever. Yeah, yes. And also it's something you pass it. Just some of these things come naturally. And yes, some people don't want to share information. Yeah, I know that they will sit with the information and sit with the information, but they are forgetting that. Remember, we all have got our own process. You've got your own course with your own business. You know, people they should learn from, they should learn from people. Chickens sitting next to each other. They are the same chickens together. But do you know how much money they all make? Because they've got their own clients. It's all about their service, you know, because people like different things because of her approach, the way she talks to me, her service, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So do it, girl, do it.
Just go, girl, just go. So there's another one by Ugel. And I thought, okay, is so relevant, so relevant why she is also. She's actually in Cape Town, but her home is in the Northern Cape and she visits there quite often. And she also has major, major fear and doubts issues because she says, tuli, I can't fail. I can't fail because I'm a breadwinner. Whatever I'm doing has to be a win. I just thought Nandi, that one, she can turn it around to be a pushing thing.
You know, when things are failing, you.
Make sure that they don't fail because.
You, you have to. Another thing, what I have to tell her is this. Listen, dear, when you're starting a business, the first people that will support you will be your. Your friends, immediate friends in your circle of. Of of family. But those people can't support you forever. Okay, so your hometown, you might be realizing that you're going to get support from people from outside people, from strangers, you know, people that you don't know. People. Let's say you are from Guanga, but you get support from a Kitcher, from a G. River, from whatever.
Don't mention that. You know why Nandi Yeah. The most people that listen to this podcast are from Uganda.
Exactly.
And also those people are. And people from Luanda in Angola, according to when we did our research to find out like who are the. Who are.
Who's listening.
So it's actually people from Luanda in Angola.
Those people, your friends and family, will be your foundation when you start. Okay. And also people get stuck that. No, Tula used to support me. It doesn't come to my events anymore. But no, remember, no, Tula has done his apart and she will come back some other time, but she's got other things to do. So people get cool, get so stuck that these people must support me. My neighbors get out of that. You know, people from far away, people that you don't know, strangers. I mean, as I said to you earlier on my, my, my most successful events that beat my hometown were from the East Wind, you know, the Western Cape, you know, the Eastern Cape, you know, far from, from home.
You never thought people that are never.
Going to support me, you know, as a result, one of my plans, I want to go now to, to Nigeria. I want to go to Botswana or to go out. Of course they've told me that. Listen, you can be support wherever as long as you're delivering a good service and people have got a need for what you are doing. Don't worry about the close people around because remember, people that you grow with, that you've grown up with, are looking at you and saying, ah, we know when we used to go, let's say you are in, you're catering. She didn't even come and peel. When we got funerals, she was lazy to even come and peel. Now she's saying she's cooking.
No, Tula, they don't know that.
Now you are in another space that you've got a passion about that you love so dearly. They are still looking you with those eyes. So even their support will be lazy towards you, you know, because they don't know that. Now this is the seed that God has planted.
A new person.
Now it's growing inside of you and it makes you feel up and you get so excited. As you said, when you're doing something, you get so excited, you run around, you know. So what I'm trying to say is do put some, some, some, some security on the side, you know, for you. Because there will be ups and downs in the business, but the downs are the ones that pick you up again because you have to learn.
Yes.
You cannot be like a straight line and be perfect in everything. When you're starting a business, you're gonna have your ups and downs, ups and downs, but you must be stronger. Don't get too weak. They mustn't make you weak. They must make you stronger.
Okay? Okay. And then this other one that I got from, she's also quite established. She's, she's been running a business for quite some time. So she wants to find out because she struggles with the discipline I spoke about at the beginning, I think on the first or second podcast on separate, separating your finances from the business and your personal finances. Now she says she got this temptation because she says this is all my money.
So she will go into that bag and take and take and use and use and use and use and use. Yeah, you listen, Noctura. It's, it's one of the many business people's mistake that they've done, you know, because truth be told, even from our schools where we land, we are not taught business skills, you know, and we. Then you've got this passion. We've got this passion that you want to do the business. You know, you've got it now. You've got everything now. You've got the knowledge, you've researched, you've got the passion. You know, it's something that, you know that you can succeed. You've, you've. All the fears now are gone. Now you're in the business, but you're making money and you're throwing all the money. You know, it doesn't work. Business is business, guys. You have to be very disciplined. And the only way to be disciplined is that from the business you must get a salary.
Yes.
Give yourself a salary. And then you must do most your, your income and expenditure.
Okay?
And then you must do the balance and all of that. Then you must have all your expenses, salaries, rental, blah, telephone, blah, blah, blah. Because remember, people are using their own contracts, but they don't pay their contracts from the business. Yes, yes. Okay. Pay all of those things. Okay? And then whatever is left is for the business.
Don't go there.
Don't go there. Whatever you need to do, do it from your own salary. And most importantly, guys, get ourselves bookkeepers.
Bookkeepers, Nandi.
Because I remember you saying that's when things started really happening for you being there. I've done that mistake myself. I was like, it's my money anyway. I'm going to pay my boy. I'm going to pay my car, I'm going to pay my school fees. And I forgot that I must pay myself a salary to do those Things. And now I got to the point where the business didn't have money. Money was coming in, but there was nothing in the bank. And then when you say, I want to go and do now a loan or a business loan, there's nothing to show. Yes, yes. There's nothing in the bank. You've been using because I've been using. Yes. The money must come in and out. You must work. The banks want to that, but at the end of the day there must be some, some savings for the business.
You know, Nandy, this one reminds me of when I can't say I really have discipline, I think of discipline. It's a very opulent word. It's for Olympic people. I don't know, it's got, it feels.
Like it's got nothing to do with me.
But I think the thing here is that if I understand the logic behind what I'm doing, because one time, one of my men, major, major failures is we bid for work. While I still thought, okay, I was doing valves and pipes when I just started the business, because it was what I understood. So what, what we did is we bid for work. It was one of the municipalities up the west coast, a very racist municipality. So I saw that they awarded the B to some other company. I looked up, asked for the scoring. They gave me the scoring, the pr, their price was high. They were like level five bee. So I, I competed. I, I said to them, I contested. I said, I, I'd like you guys to show my results and how come I didn't win if my price was lower and my bee is high. And then they came back to me and they said they're going to do some investigation. They came back and then they said, you are awarded. Actually, we made a mistake. I said, okay, fine, I take it now the reason why that was actually a biggest failure for me that time I was going through a time where the, our car was going to be repossessed. My luxury car, which I really loved, was going to be repossessed. I had like 50k in the business, 50, 000 rent and I wanted to pay the car. And I wasn't sure if this transaction is really gonna work out because they're still investigating. And then I took that money and I took out the car.
No, the 50,000. Here comes.
Here comes exactly.
Here comes now.
This transaction that we fought for, I don't have money to fund the transaction for me, that was.
Yeah, yeah, no, that has to be. That was a bag again, like I.
Can'T even explain what I Went through. Then after that, in my mind, I know there must always be money to do a transaction. They must always.
For instance, person, okay, I must always have. When I'm going to do an event, depending how big or small the event is going to be, there must always be 100k in my account. And while I was doing that, I didn't have money to do that, you know, because you spend it, I'll spend it. So there must always be money for transaction. If you're a caterer, you can get a funeral tomorrow. And they said, just come and catapult. Now you must run around, run around. Another thing that we do that I've learned as well is that when you are a hustler and you run a business like that, you become a liar as well at other times. Because now here I'm going to Noctula to borrow money from Noctura to do this event. The event is a failure. I can't even pay Noctula back. You see, now she starts looking at me in a different eye. But she said she's going to give me. And it's not like you, you, you. You're doing it purposely. That's why sometimes really asks back people. Certain businesses so different, difficult because even when you go to these Cedars to get funding, they take you from pillar to post, they give you applications as big, bigger than Bibles. They ask all of these questions that you don't know and you don't get.
That money to start.
And we started money from, with money from our mothers, our uncles, from our sisters. We borrowed this one, we paid this one. It's difficult. It's really difficult. It's really tough. So that's why I'm saying to people now, if you want to go out there, please do your research. Know how much you're going to need to start your business work, save that money times two or times three. And then you can go out there so that you don't go and borrow and borrow and borrow and burn Bill. Because when we said that we are borrowing a lot, you know, and it wasn't nice when we can't pay people back their money. Now you've got a stress of this failed event. You've got a stress, you know, it wasn't. And, and it's only a few people that really do understand that. Listen, next time it's okay, don't worry about it. You will give it when you, when you recover, you know, and, and these are the things that are going behind the scenes, you know. And another thing People see the event so successful, but they don't know that I've got nocturna, I've got Turbo, I've got this. That I've borrowed money from. So 80% of this money is going to people that have. They've borrowed me money. I'm left with 10%. What do you do with 10?
What do you do? But again, and you know what? I really like this one, of not having to go and spend all of that money. You know, we're coming to a point whereby I from the business, I pay myself a salary, and I take from my salary and plow back into the.
Business because it's yours.
No one is finding you, because if you spend all of that money, it's like you are eating your seed. If you are eating your seed, you can't plant.
Exactly.
And it's like. For me, it's like somebody who just goes and registers every year in January for a course, and then they drop out.
Every.
Every February, they drop out. Because you're never gonna grow that business if you're gonna be spending Emily business. So for me, it's not even discipline, it's logic. It's just you're not gonna move forward.
If you remember that. You get older, you're gonna get. I mean, there's another thing. Stuff comes and go. People don't stay. They always want more. So you must be able to know that whatever is happening with yourself with your stuff, you are. You are paying them a good enough salary. When they go, they go. Because you can't keep people. But what I'm trying to say, always pay yourself a salary and always invest back into your business with your own salary. If your own salary is not enough for your expenses, tough.
You must work harder. Work harder so that you can be able to pay yourself your salary. Work harder. So I think we've covered most of the. Of the. Of the areas around doubts, fears, and epic failures. Nandi, just in closing, I just want to shine a spotlight on what I've seen you do at your events. And you do it so incredibly. You know, when I was attending one of your events, and you know that I help a lot with trying to put together proposals and that type of thing. But, yes, like, I started seeing people. I went to go peel vegetables on a Friday night. Tomorrow was your event. All the ladies there were talking about your event. Yes, I went to the shop. I'm standing at the queue. All the ladies there are talking about your event. I'm just like this girl, hey, is this my nandi?
You are talking about.
And then when I walk into the event, everybody is so warm and everybody is just like, you know, it's like it's their event. I'm very confused. Is this really NAND's event? Because everybody yesterday took ownership. How do you do that? You make people really buy into your idea because people, they go all out for your events.
That's where that passion comes from, you know, the power of attraction, what you give out there comes back to you.
Yes.
The power of the people that you equip yourself with, you know, I mean, look at you, not to know where do we come from? Where do we come from? And we are still together today, you know, so it's attracting people that have got the same mindset that love and.
Believe in what you're doing, you know.
People, because people, when they look at me and been, for instance, I mean, I think this is maybe the second time I'm sharing a story like this, you know, I'm listening and like saying, that's me. There's a lot of people that are sitting at home that are like me and you, but they are scared and I hope that by this we are able to say, girl, nobody's gonna do it for you. And also I'm an ordinary person. Yes. You know, I'm such an ordinary person. As I said to you, when you come to my event, you won't even know that I'm the event person, person, because I'm not doing this for money. It's, it's a passion, yes, money, there is money, but I'm so passionate about it, you know, I, I, and also the power of word of mouth, I think the power of my marketing skills, the power of word of mouth, you know, and how you are out there, you know, with people, you know, because when you're going to do something in a town, get involved with the people, know the people, know the lifestyles of the people, you know, how do these people leave? How do these people, and also get them involved, give them that listen, yeah, this, it's yours, you know, I'm doing this, this thing is ours, so let's work together. And I don't want to lie, shame, the, the support I've, I've received from women, women that I know, women, women that I don't know. Because when I sit, you can also remember when I pitched my story to you, you were touched, you were like, oh God, this is me. But I mean maybe you saw many, but this is me, this what I want, this is what I love and go to will direct you to people that love what you do.
Yes.
That would have maybe wanted to do what you do, but because of APC and they couldn't really do it or they didn't have the guys to do it. And God will lead you, I promise you. God open doors when they are closed.
Thank you, Nandi. I think you've wrapped up very nicely for us. I hope everybody has enjoyed this insert. I really have. I enjoy you guys. Just so you know, Nandi is the second most energetic person in the world. Cuz I'm the first.
I'm number one. I don't know how you managed to. I used to be number one, but for some reason you managed to catch up.
All right, everybody, I hope you enjoyed. Have a good time. Thank you very much. Bye bye. Bye.
