Massive NEW PMax Reporting Updates Coming!

Google is adding detailed reporting to Performance Max, including breakdowns by channel (Discover, Gmail, Display, Search), a proper search-term report, and asset-level metrics like clicks and CPC. Austin LeClear says this fixes years of opacity that let Google funnel e-commerce spend into YouTube without showing advertisers where their money went.

All right. Hey, check it out. It is April 30, 2025. And you know, I dog Google a lot. I think they're greedy and I think they fleece a lot of small businesses but they are making some changes that are quite surprising to me and they're, and they're really good to see. So they're offering more transparency. It looks like two performance max and actually even in your search and display campaigns, which I'll show as well. But we all know hey, PMAX is pretty much a black box unless you're, you know, and you can use things like Mike Roads PMAX script. If you're not familiar with that, just, just Google search it. It's a free script that like gives you visibility into sort of placements that your cost and conversions and things like that are coming from within Performance Max due to the fact Performance max is you know, going to all the different Google Ad placements available. But now Google is going to be giving you channel level performance and so it looks like you're going to have a performance tab. This is not like out as of today, so this will be coming. But this will allow you to understand where impressions and interactions such as like clicks are coming from and then where ultimately are your conversions coming from as well. So see how your various channels deliver performance against your conversion conversion goals. Click into a specific channel to learn more and use these insights to improve your performance. So this is kind of like taking Mike Rhodes PMAX script it sounds like, and, and actually now having it inside of the interface so you'll have breakdowns for these different channels like Discover Gmail display, Network Maps, search and again you'll be able to determine where those purchases are coming from. This is great. I can't tell you how many accounts I've done audits on and they, they had no idea like where their placements were at. And so we had to, you know, implement something like Mike Rhodes PMAX script to get visibility and you know, come to find out it's like in most cases really PMAX is in my opinion is especially for E commerce. It's like it's 80% plus shopping ads anyways. Uh, and then I think Google just kind of, you know, sprinkles in some video and Discover and Gmail and display to just increase their own revenue. I mean think about it. If you took every advertiser in their ecosystem and then you force them into this thing called Performance Max and now everyone, even if it's only like a few hundred bucks a month now every advertiser on Google Ads is Now spending on YouTube and display and Gmail where they probably weren't spending before. Think about what that has done to Google's revenue. Right? And so to me, when I see things like that, that Google does, they sneak in revenue increases by sort of forcing you into it. Thankfully though, at least they're now giving you clarity where they might be milking you. And so I'm excited to have this data inside of the interface. I think it's absolutely necessary. I, I'm always, you know, amazed that Google can get away with what they do in regards to selling you essentially clicks and then not giving you any of the data as to where it came from. So in my, in, in many cases I do feel like a lot of people are getting sold bot traffic and other sort of spammy traffic depending on, especially if they're using like the display network, things like that. So for pmax to have some more clarity coming to it is excellent. So here they, they give you even further breakdowns with this channel distribution you can now get search term reporting or you will be able to. So just like your search campaigns and shopping campaigns where you have that search term report, it sounds like that is now coming to PMAX as well, which is incredible. Right now they use search term insights which if you've ever used search term insights, it's okay. But it's, it's, it's not my favorite. It's just a bunch of themed, hey, here's sort of your search themes but you don't know individual search terms that seem to be doing well versus other. It's all lumped into these search themes and so you can use that data. But I, I love the search term report that's provided inside of search campaigns and shopping campaigns. You know, aside from the fact that they do hide some of those other searches that you get no clarity on. So excited to see this coming as well. And then this to me is, is huge. You're going to get richer asset metrics to maximize your ad strength. So you're actually going to get asset level reporting and this includes pmax search and display campaigns. Let's see if I can open. Doesn't think I don't, don't think I can. Let me see if I can zoom in here. Maybe that's a little too much, sorry. So check that out. Like you're actually going to be able to get so your assets right. We're adding new metrics to asset reporting like clicks, costs, impressions, conversion value by cost, average CPC and more. So you you can now look especially for responsive search ads. This is huge. You can now see what assets are performing the best in regards to the metrics you care about. Right? Which is going to be the conversions and conversion rates and ultimately probably your goal of CPA or roas before you would get labels, these performance labels which I, you know, it's kind of, hey, you know, you're just relying on Google to say this is a low performing asset and then you just pull that out and put something more in. So you're going to get metric data at the asset level, not just in performance max campaigns but also in search and display campaigns as well. I think that's a massive, massive improvement. So I'm excited to see that as well. So some incredible changes coming to performance max campaigns and not just that, also your RSA ads inside of search and display with these new asset level reporting metrics that you're going to be getting. So good move by Google. I usually I dog Google and I'm, I hate on them for many things they do and usually I'm angry by them. And today seeing this, I'm actually excited for these changes. I think they're absolutely necessary and it's kind of, you know, hopefully this is the new trend Google starts moving into is listening to the advertisers and the community and, and starting to provide, you know, what we've requested for a long period of time. So hopefully that's a trend that continues. There is a Google marketing live event May 21. I will have this blog post in this description of the video as well. So they'll probably have a lot more information in regards to that at the Google Marketing Live. So make sure to go check that out either way. Excited for the changes and I can't wait until they're live. I'll see you on the next video.
