A short guided meditation encouraging listeners to bring mindful awareness to their most challenging emotions—fear, anxiety, anger, or deep pain—as the essential first step toward healing. It emphasizes honesty, humility, and staying present with difficult feelings rather than suppressing or judging them, and frames awareness as prerequisite to further healing practices.
Accessing Awareness that Heals Let yourself become aware of the most challenging feeling that you have at this stage of your life. Or perhaps right now. It could be fear, anxiety, anger, some kind of deep pain. But whatever it is, let yourself open to it. Recognize that normally this challenging emotion goes in and out of your awareness when you're unaware. This can lead to the disturbing emotion influencing your thoughts, your actions, and even make you dangerous. Appreciate that focusing on our challenges requires integrity, honesty and humility, even though it isn't going to make you feel better right away. Awareness needs more steps for healing, but without it, we can't grow. Notice the tendency to have the awareness be fleeting and we want to do our best to stay with it. Let yourself say, now I want to stay with this emotion when it's there so I can have a much better chance to have a healing influence myself. Recognize that all awareness of our challenging emotions are like a pregnancy to being able to move in the direction of healing and well being. Give yourself a small prayer to your sacred awareness. May I stay aware of my difficult feelings. For my benefit and everyone around me, may I recognize this is the first major step in healing my wounds, fears and angers. Be reassured that we will be addressing the next healing step, the following meditation. But we can't start without this precious awareness, and it can be blocked if we get carried away with judging it, suppressing it, or believing it is something else, even though it doesn't feel like it. Staying aware of what our most difficult feelings are is always a necessary first golden step toward healing. Instead of instinctively trying to get rid of yourself, honor this as an irreplaceable first step toward healing. Sa.
