Learn to fact-check your negative self-talk the way you'd verify a news headline. The speaker walks through pausing to ask what evidence actually supports your inner narratives, using mindfulness and repeated practice to build a kinder relationship with your thoughts.
If your student's negative thoughts were breaking news headlines, most of them would need a disclaimer at the bottom. This claim has not been verified. When the mind says you'll never handle this as a student, can you pause and ask what actual evidence supports that? Is it evident? It can become clear that often it's recycled fear, insecurity, self doubt and not near fully accurate. A wise mind learns to fact check inner narratives the same way they question exaggerated headlines. The more we practice, the faster we all spot or stories posing as new facts and the easier it becomes to choose a clearer, more balanced view. Can you see how far along you are with observing your own negative thoughts and how much more are you the observer than the negative thoughts themselves? No matter where you are, no matter where you see yourself, can you see that this is an endeavor that will light up your heart primarily and dominantly through practice.
