Your negative thoughts aren't instructions. Watch them pass like a neutral observer instead of obeying them. Ask yourself what would let you feel best in the next hour, and let that guide you toward what you actually want.
Students, and even ourselves, sometimes treat fleeting thoughts as commands. You're not good enough is simply a thought, not a decree. Help by questioning its validity, by looking to see that we can be the neutral observer even more than the negative thoughts themselves. As we pause in a bit of silence, give encouragement to ask the question, what would allow me to feel the best about myself over the next hour? A friendly mind learns to filter most thoughts and see them as prior injurious habits which help us to be inspired to be more and more of the observer. This will create the support to respond from our longings and inevitably will lead us toward the source of our own wisdom and guidance. Drop a comment we'd love to hear your reflection.
