Compassion for Pain: Guided Meditation

A guided-meditation script encouraging self-compassion during physical and emotional pain. It invites gentle, kind attention to pain and associated emotions (fear, anxiety, helplessness, hopelessness), affirms those feelings as natural and impermanent, and pairs acceptance with proactive commitments to healing (intentions/prayers, seeking medical care, supportive relationships).
So just let yourself be as gentle and kind as you. Wish for your pain to be alleviated as soon as possible. And recognize that this being inside you that is wishing for your pain to be lessened or eliminated as soon as possible is a really good articulation of who you are, that you are a prayerful being, that you are someone who wants good things to happen to your body, to your life and to other people's life. And that even while the pain is there, that you have this capacity, this essential part of you that can send an intention or a thought or a prayer for healing towards yourself. And you can be just an awareness of whatever else is in your field. So take a look and see. Is there fear, anxiety, helplessness, hopelessness, emotionally, that's also there while you're in pain. And of course there's some of those emotional states. We all are so human that it's natural that we'll have these emotional reactions of fear, of anxiety, of helplessness, of hopelessness. So let your awareness say hello to them and say, I accept you, I see you. I know you feel helpless or hopeless or afraid. But I want you to know that you as a feeling state are not going to run my mind, you're not going to run my heart. I am courage, I am trust, and I am hope. I am grounded. And that doesn't mean I'm going to throw you away or that I can eliminate you. It just means that I can send this message while the fear and the helplessness has its own state. But I can send this message that says I am going to do everything possible to heal my body. I am going to do everything possible also to heal my mind and my heart. And it is good to feel the part of me that can direct my intelligence and my heart towards a faith and a trust that everything that's possible for healing I'm going to do. I'm going to put myself in the right physical position so that I can support the healing. I am going to go to the very best doctor that I can find to help heal me. I'm going to surround myself with the people that are both going to be nurturing to me and going to allow me to be the human being that I am. I am interested in well being and fear, helplessness, hopelessness. You pose as if you know that you're the truth and yet you are in permanent states. I want you to hear me again. Fear, helplessness, hopelessness, anxiety. You are in permanent states. You will not last forever. And I know that when you enter my emotional Being in my field, you can become so intense that you can try to make me believe that the situation really is hopeless, that the anxiety makes me feel like it's going to last forever. But I, the seat of grounded wisdom, know that it's natural that you're human. But you must recognize. I recognize that you're only a human state. And I am sending you love. I am sending you kindness. And I'm also letting you know that you have a delusional sense of grandiosity to think that you know my future. I embrace the fact that you are hurting in some way, or afraid in some way. I embrace the fact that there is pain. But I am the one sending the message to these emotional states that you are impermanent and that I have faith that healing will definitely come. It's just a matter of time. I am the one that will be resourceful. I am the one that has ownership of my thinking and I can be aware of you. I can be sensitive to you. But most important, I am the one that can guide my thoughts and sometimes my feelings towards healing, prayers and wishes, which is the dedication of my life. I am the one dedicating myself to trust, to peace, to faith, to determination, to support healing as much as possible. And at the same time, I have enough space to hold the emotional states and the pain in my arms. I can let it be there. And most importantly, I can keep generating a sense of tenderness, acceptance and healing, regardless of the physical or emotional state. T.
