Finding the Healing Wisdom in Chronic Pain

A guided meditation that teaches you to observe pain without identifying with it, then direct compassionate intention toward the affected areas. The practice uses breathing, imagination, and a witnessing awareness to create space between you and physical suffering.
Let yourself just make contact around whatever area is in pain right now, and recognize that the main you, the central you, is the one that can be aware of the pain and can direct your attention no matter what state you're in. So allow your awareness to be right on the edges of wherever your pain is, and let it be like an image of a form with perhaps some kind of either light or some way in which you can recognize that you're just a little bit bigger, bigger than the area of pain that you're dealing with in your body right now. And see if you can find a place inside you that can just say, I can still see pain. I can still see you even while you're there. I can still think while you're there. I can move my body, at least parts of my body, while you're there. And I have the capacity to coexist with you and therefore take central ownership of my precious attention. And really, as much as possible, allowing yourself to recognize that you are this precious attention, even though it may not feel that way at certain times, because the pain can be there at such a strong level that it can try to take ownership of not only part of your body, but part of your mind. And with this awareness, you're taking back the ownership of your own capacity to be the awareness, to be the healer, to be the one that can direct positive energy, positive thought, no matter what state your body's in, Just let that drop into your awareness and experiment. Am I able right now to find that place inside me that wishes well for me, no matter how much pain I'm in, that realizes that I'm not doing anything intentional to create this pain? And therefore I am really deserving of just a healing presence, a precious sense of attention that can just surround this pain and guide my attention back to my heart, back to just being aware of whatever's in my environment right now? So put your attention on recognizing that you are the witness, you are the healer. And that doesn't mean that you're grandiose and that you can eliminate the pain. It means that you can very definitely coexist with the pain. And by recognizing that, you don't have to reinforce it. You don't have to keep thinking thoughts about it. You can stay aware of it. And with this deep awareness, recognize that I want to direct love towards my life, towards my body, and that that's the purpose of why I'm alive, regardless of whether I'm in pain or not, just take a moment and see if that resonates the purpose why I'm alive is to recognize that I am here to love. I am here to love myself even while this pain is going on. And this very capacity to be a lover, to be accepting, to be tender, is always the reason why I'm alive. And I want to send as much as possible this message around this, this area of pain. And whether or not it can break it up or whether it just recognizes that we can coexist and we can generate thoughts of well being, no matter what kind of pain we're in is a state of liberation, is a state of being grounded, and that we don't have to endlessly crave to feel better. What we want to do is to learn that no matter what feeling state we're in, no matter what kind of pain we're in, we can still say hello to the person in front of us. We can still contemplate what our heart wants for our life. We can still recognize that we are the healer and that we are the one that can have a sense of wishing for a relief of suffering. So address your pain right now directly and just say as much as possible. I want to relieve this suffering knowing full well that I'm not in complete control, but I know at the same time that I'm capable of sending this prayerful wish to my being, to the edges of my pain. And that just knowing that I can always be this coexistence, no matter what kind of state I'm in, allows me to disidentify with being centrally in pain. Recognize as you hear these words, I am the witness. I am the one that's capable of generating thoughts. I am the healer. And when I say I'm the healer, that means that I can send endless prayerful healing intentions and wishes and prayers. And even if you can't feel this very deeply, let yourself be satisfied with just knowing that this is your intention. Even your mind being aware that you are the healer, you are the one that can coexist forever, no matter what is an empowerment is grounded, will create as much relief as possible, will allow you to put more and more energy and thought into a sense of well being and caring and take a moment to just feel or just know that you wish dominantly for a sense of as little pain as possible, and that you can breathe with awareness as you're hearing this with a prayer and allow the pain to just be there, knowing that it has a friend forever, knowing that it has prayers surrounding it forever, knowing that you found the ally inside you and that you're dedicated to this sa.
