How To Deal With Feeling Inadequate | Inadequacy Definition

When inadequacy hits, ask yourself a compassionate question like "How can I care for myself right now?" Then identify what you need to develop: dedication, perseverance, humility, courage. Inadequacy is a feeling you can change, not who you are.
One of the most profound ways that we can pivot from chattering negatively about ourselves is by asking a question from our heart. Now, hopefully, you can really take that in, that if you ask yourself something like, how can I care for myself? That that's going to create a shift in the way you're thinking and will allow you to focus on the positive. And so today, we're going to explore the question, how do I take care of myself best when I feel inadequate? Once you ask that question and ask it in a way that isn't judgmental, so the question is asked, like, how do I take care of myself when I feel the most inadequate? It's not a judgment. It's just a neutral question, or maybe even an affectionate question. Inadequacy is one of the most avoided subjects in life. It's treated like death. It's treated like an ego death. And so to have the courage and the humility to ask this question is an evolutionary step in itself. Now, I hope you can realize as you reflect in your life, how often have you really talked about your area or areas where you feel inadequacy? Now, the second step in moving forward is how can I best develop in this particular area where I feel inadequate? So you're really asking yourself, what attitudes do I need to develop? What actions do I need to develop, what thoughts do I need to think while I feel inadequate? So imagine yourself in whatever ways that you feel or whatever way you feel inadequate, having a thought that might say, I'm not doing this on purpose. I want to support myself. I want to focus on caring. And then you're leading yourself toward a positive response while you're feeling inadequate. And that will lead you naturally to the third step, which is moving toward adequacy and confidence. So you're literally focusing on what would bring me to feel adequate and more confident in this area. And this requires almost in all circumstances, dedication, perseverance, humility, courage, and awareness. Because the areas we feel inadequate are almost like frozen inside of ourselves. And we consciously and unconsciously identify, oh, that's just me. But it's not just you. It's a feeling that is there that can morph. And if we pay attention to it and ask ourselves this question and then respond to the question with ideas, actions, and attitudes that will support you to be more adequate, then you're really involved with yourself in a way that's incredibly beneficial. So let yourself get a glimpse of that. So staying with these three steps, the awareness of the inadequacy, feelings, how you can develop adequacy and confidence. And the third step of actually implementing the answers to the questions of how you can develop allows you to pivot from having a negative reaction toward inadequacy and being the responder of the individual inside you with your heart and wisdom that can help you in the area where inadequacy is most frozen inside you. It becomes a fertile process where you almost can start to look forward to Ah, I feel inadequate. Oh, wait a minute, I remember. I want to ask the question, how can I feel adequate? What are the ways I can implement it? And making sure that you stay aware of the inadequacy itself and not make it a fixed state. So I wish this for all of you, for all of us, and may we all have the courage and the humility to face the areas that we so often avoid.
