What Do I Really Need? Guided Meditation

A guided-meditation transcript that leads the listener through body-focused breath awareness into an extended inquiry about an important but hard-to-identify personal need. The guidance invites dwelling in the not-knowing, imagining telling the other person you care about that you don't yet know what you need (including sharing fantasies), and making a dedicated, compassionate commitment to continue creating safe space to discover and birth those needs. Tone is reflective and invitational.
Let your tension start by going to your solar plexus and feeling the way you're breathing and how it's impacting that whole area of your body. And as you breathe in, just feel the sensation of whether or not the breath feels like it's flowing, or whether it's being constricted in any way, whether it's going deeply, whether it's going softly, and just allow your tension to go there for a few seconds. Now, let yourself go back to a place where you don't know what you need, where you're in a relationship that really matters to you and you cannot tell what you need. And it's important. It's not a trivial area that you just know you need something, but you can't reach the place where you can have a sense of what that need is. And really spend some seconds going into the experience of the longing to feel what that need is, but the incapacity to come up with it in your conscious mind. And as you inquire into what that situation is, just keep going into the one that matters most to you. Just keep dwelling. And know that not only now, but you're going to keep giving yourself permission to do this on an ongoing basis, because it is an important need to you, even though you can't discover what it is. Or perhaps it's even a combination of several needs that you haven't discovered. So keep going deeper and deeper as you breathe. Breathe deeper and deeper into the question, what is it that I really need? What's my best intuitive guess as to what the need is that's buried underneath this vague series of feelings to where I can't quite tell what is it that would satisfy this longing in my core? And now let yourself express to the person that you feel this towards, that you're not sure what it is that you need? So imagine yourself going up towards the individual and saying straightforwardly, I'm trying to discover what it is that I need, but I'm not sure what I need, but I know I need something. And just see how that feels. Just take the time to actually acknowledge that you don't know what you need as you're doing that. Allow fantasies to emerge if they come and let yourself. Now, if there are fantasies, give yourself permission to share those with that same person. I'm having fantasies. I don't know whether it's real, but this is what I'm imagining it could be. And I don't want to commit to it perhaps, but I want you to know that I'm having fantasies this could be the need or a combination of the needs. And then allow yourself to feel. Does that feel like it's true? Do you feel like you're actually reaching a place of experiencing and expressing what it is that you truly need? Does it result in a relief or a sense of completion for you? And regardless of whether it actually does reach that spot of completion for you or not, just know that you're dedicated to this situation when you don't know what you need. And the other ones that exist in your life that you want to deepen that dedication to where you don't know. Let yourself have a positive attitude towards the part of yourself that doesn't know what it needs in all the various situations that are important in your life. So just put out the message that it's okay. Where I can't decipher what it is that I need. And what I really need is to give more attention to those places where I don't know what I need. And that I'm now dedicating myself as much as possible to create a safe space for those places to emerge more and more in my awareness where I don't know what I need. That I'm creating a dignified space for the not knowings to be be there and to deeply inquire what is it that I need? At the same time and appreciate that you are questioning and that you want to question what it is that you need. And recognize that each time you can give a true discovery to what it is that you need, you're actually creating a birth in your life. And that you recognize intuitively that giving as many of these kinds of bursts in your life gives it more of a sense of inspiration and purpose. And recognize that you want to give yourself that wish and let yourself give that wish to yourself. Foreign.
