In this instructional video, Badrinath Gella, speaking from personal experience as an asthmatic, demonstrates three breathing practices designed to clear nasal and sinus blockages that impede breathing, especially during colds and sleep. He first guides viewers through Nāsika Śodhana Kriya, a nostril‑alternating exhalation exercise performed in a comfortable seated posture with an erect spine and relaxed shoulders. Next, he introduces a full‑abdominal exhalation from both nostrils, emphasizing active abdominal contraction and passive inhalation, performed with eyes closed for focus. The second major practice is Bhastrika Pranayama, a rapid, circular breathing pattern where inhalation and exhalation are of equal duration and continuous, performed with relaxed facial muscles and hands placed on the knees. Gella clarifies the key distinction between Bhastrika and Kapalabhati—Kapalabhati involves forceful exhalation only, whereas Bhastrika includes both phases. The third technique is a nasal breath‑hold: a deep inhalation followed by pinching the nostrils to retain breath, creating internal pressure that helps open nasal passages; the hold can be brief and is repeated with slow nasal exhalation. Throughout, he stresses proper posture, relaxed neck and shoulders, and cautions against mouth breathing during the hold. The video concludes with an invitation to join his "Conscious Breathing Hub" for live sessions, and a standard call‑to‑action to like, share, and subscribe.

Namaste. Being an asthmatic patient, whenever I get cold, I feel my nasal passages, sinuses are getting blocked. Because of that, I could not breathe properly, and during the sleep I feel a lot of difficulties. So here are some of the breathing techniques which you can practice to get relief from these blockages. If you are also facing similar problems, do these practices. The first one we practice is Nāsika Śodhana Kriyas. For this, you have to sit comfortably in cross-legged position. You can also sit on the chair wherever you are. Make sure your spine is erect, your chin is perpendicular to your body, and you are looking forward. Your shoulders and your neck is relaxed. First, close your right nostril and exhale from your left. Forceful exhalations from your left. Relax. Do it for 10 times and relax. Now we will do from right nostril. Close your left nostril. Exhale from right. Relax. If you have observed, there is a difference in sound because my right nostril is little blocked. It is getting open now by doing these practices. As I am recording this video, I am also getting benefited out of this video. So I hope you are also following me and practicing along with me. And the third one you can do is from both nostrils, exhale completely through your abdomen. Relax. You have to squeeze your abdominal muscles. You have to completely exhale. Active exhalations and passive inhalations. Again, we will repeat this by closing our eyes. Keep your eyes closed and exhale. Relax and slowly open your eyes. The second practice we do is Bhastrika Pranayama. To practice this, we are not engaging our hands. We can also do without engaging our hands. So, but make sure your shoulders and neck is relaxed. Do not give any exaggeration, not squeeze your facial muscles. Your facial muscles are relaxed. So observe me, place your both hands on your knees. If you are sitting on the chair, it is completely fine. You have to do If you observe me, I am taking inhalation and exhalation equal proportions. So you have to exhale completely and inhale fully. Exhale and inhale, exhale and inhale. It happens in a circular mode. There is no gap between your inhalation and exhalation. Okay, so let's repeat this. Keep your eyes closed. Relax. And slowly open your eyes. You might be wondering what is the difference between the pranayama we have done before and now, the Kapalabhati and Bhastrika. Kapalabhati, we are only exhaling, we are not inhaling. It's a forceful exhalation. But here we are inhaling and exhaling. That is the major difference. The third one we do is holding the breath. So we have to inhale and pinch our nostrils and hold the breath because the pressure from your body opens up our nasal passages and our sinuses. So let's do this. Inhale, close your Nostrils. And slowly release your nostrils and slowly exhale your breathing. Not exhale completely. Some people, when they hold, they do it like this. Do not use your nose— sorry, mouth again. If you are using your mouth, there is no use. Do not use your mouth. Exhale from your nose. Close your nose. And I can hold for longer time, but if you cannot hold for longer time, it's completely fine. If you can hold for 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 6 seconds, it's completely fine. So let's repeat this. Close, pinch your nose. Inhale deeply. Pinch your nose. Release your hands and exhale slowly and open your eyes. So these are the simple 3 techniques which will really help you to Remove the blockages from your nostrils. If you want to practice these techniques along with me on the live sessions, join me, join Conscious Breathing Hub, where I am going to help you and come do it properly and correctly.
