In this instructional video, internationally certified yoga instructor and breathing coach Badrinath Gella introduces Kapalabhati Kriya, a powerful breathing practice from the Shat Kriyas of Hatha Yoga. He explains the meaning of the term ("skull shining"), its detoxifying benefits—such as releasing excess CO₂, clearing frontal brain lobes and sinuses, and improving respiratory and mental health—while warning against practice for individuals with heart conditions. Gella then guides viewers through proper preparation: sitting comfortably (cross‑legged, Ardha Padmasana, Padmasana, chair, or bed), keeping the spine erect, shoulders rolled back, and hands on the knees. The core technique is demonstrated: active, forceful exhalations driven by rapid abdominal contractions, followed by passive inhalations, with relaxed facial, neck, and shoulder muscles and eyes closed. He prescribes a practice structure of 10 rapid exhalations, a short break, then another 10, repeating three sets and gradually increasing to 20‑30 repetitions as proficiency grows. Gella emphasizes performing the practice on an empty stomach and reiterates the heart‑disease contraindication. The video concludes with a call to action, inviting viewers to join a free 5‑day mental detox challenge and a Facebook VIP community for further lessons, and encourages likes, comments, and sharing.

Namaste. Are you suffering with focus, concentration, and mental stability? And this session is for you. In this session, we are going to discuss one of the important kriya which is called Kapalabhati Kriya. Kapalabhati is very famous kriya. It detoxifies our body. Kapal means skull, bhati is shining. Shining the skull is called Kapalabhati. It's one of the breathing, but it comes under the Shat Kriyas. As per Hatha Yoga. It releases excess CO2, the carbon dioxide, and removes all our toxins. Like, it releases more than 100 ml of CO2 than regular release. And it also cleans the frontal lobes of your brain, also cleans the frontal sinuses. It has many benefits. If you are suffering with any heart diseases, I recommend you not to practice this. And I am also covering all the details about Kapalbhati in another video. Let's get started. Hi, I am Madrinath Kella. I am an internationally certified yoga instructor and breathing coach. In this video, I am going to teach you how to perform Kapalbhati. So before performing Kapalbhati, please sit in comfortable position. You can sit cross-legged, or you can place— you can sit in Ardha Padmasana, or even in Padmasana if if you are comfortable. So I am sitting in ardha padmasana. Make sure your spine is straight. In case if you cannot sit on the mat, you can also sit on the chair, you can also sit on the bed. I suggest you to practice along with me. Your spine is erect, roll your shoulders back, look forward. In this, we have to exhale, we have to exhale active and inhale passive. Active exhalations and passive inhalation. With every exhalation, take your— squeeze your abdominal muscles, take your abdomen in and exhale completely. Do not focus on your inhalation, okay. Place your both hands on your knees, palms facing upwards. Let us start. Before you start, observe me how I am performing. Relax. You have to squeeze your abdominal muscles. Abdomen should go in. And exhale completely. Make sure your spine is straight. Do not squeeze your facial muscles. Many people tend to do like this. No, your facial muscles are relaxed, your shoulders are relaxed, your neck is relaxed. While performing, close your eyes and observe your breathing and exhale fastly. And do it for 10 times and take a break, and again do it for 10 times, take a break, and again do it for 10 times. Slowly you can increase the numbers to 20-30 times. So now we'll do 10-10 times. So we'll do 10 times and relax, and we'll do another 10 times. Do it along with me and observe the changes in your brain, in your mind, and in your body. So spine erect, look forward, close your eyes. Relax. Normal breathing. Again. Relax. Keep your eyes closed. Observe the changes. And slowly open your eyes. Make sure you perform this with an empty stomach. This is ideal to perform before you start any breathing practices. This improves your respiratory health and the function of your brain. And avoid if you are having any problems related to your heart. And also, I am covering another video on like complete detailed philosophy behind Kapalbhati. Please watch that video, and it helps you to increase your oxygen and blood circulation in your brain. Please do practice. This will help you a lot. I hope you liked this video.
