I Knew the Right Habits… But Never Followed Them (Until This Shift Happened After joining CBH)

In this episode of the Conscious Breathing Podcast, host Badarinath Gella interviews life‑coach and former fashion designer Namrata Bharadwaj. Namrata recounts a painful early adulthood marked by severe arthritis, varicose veins, chronic fatigue, vitamin‑D deficiency and a near‑death experience in 2012. After years of ineffective medical treatment, she discovered conscious breathing, yoga and Ayurvedic nutrition, eventually joining the Conscious Breathing Hub (CBH) in September 2022. Through CBH’s breathwork, community support, Diamond membership, and simple daily rituals (turmeric‑pepper warm water, chia‑seed water, nuts, millet rotis, reduced oil), she reports substantial physical improvements – reduced knee swelling, ability to climb stairs, better sleep, and increased stamina. Emotionally, she describes greater calm, reduced anger, improved memory, and a clearer mental state, attributing these changes to regular breath pauses before reactions. She has integrated these practices into her family life: teaching her husband, daughter, and children conscious breathing, cooking together, and using breath to manage parental stress. As a relationship and law‑of‑attraction coach, she now mentors parents and women, emphasizing that conscious breathing is a foundational skill for anxiety, procrastination, and overall wellbeing. The conversation also includes a guided Lion Breathing exercise, which Namrata uses to release accumulated anger. Throughout, she stresses the importance of community, consistent practice, and aligning personal passion (cooking, coaching) with breath‑based health.

when I got married, I was 21. At that age, we are just having so much of dreams in our life, but that gets actually shattered because we are dreaming something and suddenly there is something else, the reality, and there is a huge gap in that. But regularly I was feeling something is going wrong in my right knee. All the time swelling is coming, and I had varicose veins also. I was diagnosed with severe arthritis, and then, you know, for 6 years I think I was struggling a lot. After that, in 2012, suddenly I painted one day. At that time I experienced death also, and I was crying to come back. Almost I was dead.
So what really inspired you to join CBH? Now you started, you wanted to really spread this knowledge. And what are the simple, some small habits that you have adopted after coming to CBH that has helped in your arthritis or other parts of it? And how did it impact you in your emotional level, mental level? I'm a fashion designer by profession.
Arthritis there is a lot of improvement just with the breathwork. That has really helped me. I've started climbing the stairs, coming down the stairs. Emotional levels are a lot— it has impacted me. The first step is start conscious breathing and come to calmness and peace with yourself. And one more thing, my ability to think and remember also has improved a lot. After coming to CBH, then I realized, oh my God, this is so much needed these days. With your program, actually, I got to connect to myself more and more, and I've been constantly practicing yoga and breath. And now I'm here, fit and fine, from a fashion designer to a life designer now.
Some people collect knowledge, very few people embody it. When Namrata joined in September, she already knew what healthy habits looked like— early mornings, discipline, emotional balance. But knowing and living are two different worlds. There was swelling, fluctuating energy, inner conflict between intention and action, a quiet frustration of I know this, so why am I not doing it? Then something shifted. Small habits became sacred rituals. Water in the morning, turmeric at night, breath before reaction, awareness before anger. As a Law of Attraction and relationship coach, she understood energy, but through this journey, she began to embody it. Practicing Ahimsa, Satya, Aparigraha. Living the philosophy, not just teaching it. Today she's not just transformed physically, she's aligned. Please welcome Namrata Bharadwaj. Welcome, welcome Namrata to the Conscious Breathing Podcast. It's honor to have you today. Thank you so much for being part of this podcast. And I've seen your journey, like we met in Mumbai also and we spoke online few times. And what really inspired you to do this journey.
Yeah.
Can you explain a bit about your story? Like, also you spoke about, uh, you had some challenges when you just got married, like you are unable to adjust.
Yes, sir.
So can you talk about, like, I know that every woman goes through the same situation, right?
Yes.
Yeah. So how was your journey?
Thank you, sir, first of all, for this, uh, invite and to have you with me taking my podcast today. It's an honor for me too. Thank you for that. And to start with, yes sir, when I got married, I was 21. At that age, we are just having so much of dreams in our life, but that gets actually shattered, right? It's not the fault of the husband or the family, it's the way we are not taught about it, right? Because we are dreaming something and suddenly there is a something else, the reality, and there is a huge gap in that. In fulfilling that gap, actually we lose ourselves.
True.
And when we lose ourselves, mental and emotional, lot of things start happening inside us. Because of that, the body takes a toll. And simply that happened with me also. In 2004, I was diagnosed with severe arthritis. And then, for 6 years, I think I was struggling a lot. No doctor was able to explain me what is happening. They were just giving me pills and pills and pills, and I thought, what is happening to me? I am not recovering. I used to feel always tired, always tired. Then I thought, okay, no, let me occupy myself. And then we shifted to Mumbai in 2010. 6 years passed by. After that, in 2012, suddenly I fainted one day and I landed up in a hospital, and there I was told that there is no vitamin D3 in my body. It's below 2. And I was put on steroids that time. And at that time I experienced death also, and I was crying to come back. And that's the reason I'm very connected to Conscious Breath, because my mother, my husband were crying like anything because almost I was dead. And I could feel that, I could see that happening to me, and I was crying, please let me go back, please let me go back. And that was the moment my mother was crying and that breath which I took like this, and I said, don't cry, I'm back, I'm back, finally I'm back. And I said, I'm sorry, whatever I am born for to do, I am back here in my life. And from that moment, something struck me. I said, I'll just follow my heart. I'll do my duties with my children, with my husband, everything, but I now, I need to follow my heart. And I've been constantly practicing yoga and breath and Now I am here, fit and fine, and I'm a fashion designer by profession. Okay, from a fashion designer to a life designer now. So I'm established life coach. I'm helping people transform their lives, especially women. And not only women, what I am seeing, women are also growing these days, but men are also suffering a lot. So I have a heart for both of them because we are all humans and we need to live a very fulfilled and happy life. So that's my mission and that's my vision also, to help, to learn and help more and more.
Wow! So what really inspired you to join CBH?
Yes, sir. CBH, last year September, I had a severe pain aggravating again and again. In spite of doing so much of work on myself, energy work, mental and emotional work, awakening programs, enlightenment, lot of self-development courses I had done, but regularly I was feeling something is going wrong in my right knee. All the time swelling is coming. And I had varicose veins also. So I was going for a holiday. That time I got to know about Ayurveda and I went to a clinic. They helped me, uh, subside a little and I went for a holiday. Then I came back, I said I won't be able to give so much of time because I have home to take care of, my work also. I need something online and I happen to see you. And because you are Siddharth sir's student and I know how things are being transferred in this community, I had full trust. So I came here, I said another 10 2 years to CBH now because I need to learn everything and I need, I need to be fit basically, because if I am fit, I can teach other people to be fit. That's the intention. And coming to CBH, conscious breathing is something which is my heart and soul because it is related to law of attraction and manifestation, and I am a coach for that.
Okay.
So after coming to CBH, I realized when I joined Silver, then I realized, oh my God, this is so much needed these days. And being a yoga practitioner also and breath practitioner also, what you are teaching is very different, very, very different. And I simply— your simplicity actually pulled me here, and I said I want to be committed to this community as a service also and as a learner also.
Wow, wow. So being a life coach, you have been already practicing, but still you wanted to deepen your knowledge in breathwork. And did it help you in your arthritis?
And yes, sir, arthritis, there is a lot of improvement just with the breathwork and Few of your nutritionist, uh, suggestions I am following. That has really helped me. I've started climbing the stairs and coming down the stairs. Little bit, I think 15% is more left, which I'll be working on.
Previously it was difficult for you to—
Yes, I didn't start my exercises also. I used to sit on the chair and do your Surya Namaskar, but now I am very confident within 15-20 days I'll be doing it on the floor also. So that's it.
That's a great improvement. That's a great improvement. And how did it impact you in your emotional level, mental level?
Emotional level, sir, a lot it has impacted me. Whenever there is some kind of trigger happening, right, sometimes we know the outer triggers, but there are several internal triggers also inside the body which we are not aware of because we do not get so much of time to connect with ourselves. But with your program, actually, I got to connect to myself more and more. And when I connected to myself, I could feel there are a lot of unhealed emotions still left inside me. So with your program, it is helping me to grow in my emotional health also, and that's the reason I'm feeling more energetic also. Yeah.
And you mainly mentioned about like the biggest thing which take away from CBH is anger.
Yes.
Can you explain me about that?
Yes, sir. As you know, after self-development and life coaching skills and everything, you just lose anger very fast, especially with the kids and husband. And the poor husband is the main person who gets all the bashing, tantrums. Yes, tantrums. So I was— no, through your program, when I was sitting in the morning and doing on Wednesdays, that time I realized, oh my God, it's my journey, I have to heal it. Why I'm putting— pulling or pushing other person into it? That was the realization. And every time whenever I am approaching anybody in the family, I take a deep breath, and that, that small pause only stops my anger. So that's something very, very nice happening. And one more thing, my ability to think and remember also has improved a lot.
You used breathing? Yes, breathing for controlling your anger. Yes, yes. I think now your family might be happy.
Yes, yes, very, very happy, very happy. And in fact, they are also putting efforts to practice conscious breathing.
Okay, your husband, you said that, like, so can you talk about that, like, your family? Like, initially when we join, like, it's very difficult to convince the family.
Yes.
Yeah, can you tell us?
Uh, like, for example, my daughter goes for a run. One day she came back and she went into hypertension, right? I had to rush her to the hospital. So there I made her realize, why I am telling you every morning sit down 5 minutes in silence, meditate. And do conscious breathing. So the placard what you have given us, I have kept in front of everybody's table now so that at least the consciousness should build up before doing that.
Yeah, so they were practicing now?
They have started practicing, very, very little, little, but I'm very sure within 6 months they'll be practicing because there's a lot of benefits.
True, a lot of benefits. Yeah, even if we start with 5 minutes, that's enough.
That's it.
It's not about like practicing 1 hour is the practice. Yes, even if you are integrating this into for 5 minutes, because especially when she goes for a run or anything, it will be very, very helpful to improve her heart rate, reduce the stress on the heart. Especially nasal breathing works a lot.
Yes, sir.
All right. And now you started— you wanted to really spread this knowledge about— as a life coach, you also wanted to integrate breathing exercises. Can you tell us about that vision like which you have built for yourself?
Yes, sir. I have a small community very beautiful people with me. And to everyone, the first step is start conscious breathing and come to calmness and peace with yourself. And then let's design the future, because that's so, so important. And especially to the parents, I have a lot of parents and families coming to me because I am a relationship coach as well. So where I have noticed, parents keep shouting at the child when they are small. Right, they get restless so many times. If every parent gets to learn this, we'll change the next generation, sir.
Absolutely.
And I am very, very keen and very inclined towards changing this, especially in India, because I love India. And your mission and my vision actually, yeah, is aligned and very meaningful work. Yes, sir. So if parents can realize this with conscious breathing, ki, what is important, how to speak to the child they can take a pause. And every parent knows how to do conscious breathing, they can actually, um, help children next generation. So they will not need medication so fast.
Yes.
And in the world where we are, uh, actually pollution, there is so much of air pollution also. Conscious breathing is something which everybody needs to practice to improve their immune system also.
And, uh, what are the simple, some small habits that you have adopted after coming to CBH? That has helped in your arthritis or other parts of your body?
Okay, sir. So before going to bed, I am having turmeric with little bit of pepper in warm water. Morning, I am having chia seed water, then soaked walnuts and almonds I am having. Then I have shifted from a lot towards my portions. Half portion is my salad or salads. Then I have millet rotis and little sabzi. So that is something which I am really following, and especially the oil part also. Like oily, we have stopped eating. I feel that has actually helped me in my acid, uh, formation in my body also. And I am getting much better sleep. I am getting up early. I'm going for my walks. That's a transformation, actually. Lifestyle transformation has happened, which I was seeking for after COVID, and it was very difficult. So there I want to highlight about the community. If we are with a coach or community, if we are in surrender, so automatically that energy pulls you. Towards it. So my commitment here is I have a CBS, so I'll be fit. I know that. Simple.
Yeah, that's wonderful. Like, you also mentioned about you started cooking now.
Yes.
So can you talk about that?
Yes, I have started cooking because I felt in this journey with you, actually, especially, I felt cooking is my passion also, right? And, uh, just earning or being a life coach or just going around with doing work I realized I was leaving my passion of cooking. With you, with such simplified food, I am cooking all the meals and my family is extremely happy. So just with small, small shifts, the family is being happy, right? And, uh, what I have noticed in my surroundings, 90% to 99% women are actually going through a lot of stress because of the helpers which we actually take for help. So that is, uh, actually making people more stressful, and because of that, they keep shouting on their husbands, sometimes their kids. The entire house scenario changes because of that. So I would really request women to just think over it and plan, start planning more and more. And, uh, as simple as food we can make, that's the most nutritious, right? So with a lot of oil, lot of masalas, lot of stress, basically the way the food is cooked that really impacts our life.
Yeah, you really highlighted a very important point that like stress, like sometimes simple things like the maid did not come, that increases our heart rate, as well as like maid did not come again, that you get angry. Yes, so unnecessarily we are— those triggers, those, those things are triggering our emotions. Yes, sir, which are not necessary for us actually. So I think, you know, cooking by yourself has solved many problems, I think it seems. And also your family might be enjoying Yes, sir.
In fact, my daughter has started cooking, my husband has started cooking. We are having a good family time in the kitchen also.
So very good.
People say we need very personal time, very quality time, but these are the qualities which we are actually leaving, and that is Indian Sanskriti, basically.
True.
This is, uh, about if we are cooking our own food, we can actually make it prasad.
Absolutely.
And which can heal our body also. Absolutely.
Otherwise, like, we catch up and we are with our mobile phones. Everyone is at least in these activities, we engage with our family and we cook together, and that love also transmit to that food, right? Absolutely. Excellent, excellent job. And how did yogic philosophy has helped you? Some of the yogic principles, you said that you have started integrating some of the yoga principles. Would you like to highlight about that?
Ahem, sir, yes. That actually helped me to not show my anger.
Can you give us any example, like which situation?
A lot of examples. Like for example, if I'm going to my daughter and asking for help, right? Suramya, I need your help, and she says, I am busy. Initially it used to hurt me. Now I am in surrender mode, like okay, she is busy, okay, let me handle how I can handle it. Initially, I used to feel, oh my God, I have given my life to that person and they are not giving me anything when I'm needing them. Same goes with my husband, right? I took up a decision of cooking, but initially when I was asking for help, he used to say, this is not my job. So I used to feel hurt. But during those Wednesday classes, I felt like this is my decision, this is my responsibility. I cannot pull or push anybody. I can become an example for the other person. So while I was cooking, I was dancing, I was enjoying myself and everything I was doing, because it is showing my passion also towards that work. And that pulled my family towards it. Oh my God, she is enjoying so much while cooking. So my husband also wanted to come, then my daughter wanted to come. So that changed actually. And I think Morning Wisdom, Yogic Wisdom has brought a lot of calmness and peace within me. There is no chase anymore in my inner self. There is no more chase because truly I was chasing for so many things, uh, because the upbringing is like that, we chase in our life. But coming to CBS, that chase has vanished somehow. Yeah, still I am working, I am a professional, like I am cooking also. So there is a balance and harmony which has been created after coming to CBS.
Yeah, the most important, right? Yeah, yeah. And what is your message for the people who are struggling with anxiety or like overthinking or procrastination?
So the only message to everyone who's suffering through anxiety, pain, and overthinking, procrastination is do Conscious Breathing. Start practicing Conscious Breathing because that is the first step towards taking charge of all this. Because these are all Arbonne problems, and Conscious Breathing is something which everybody should start doing. Whether they are suffering or not suffering medically, everything starting means at every age they can start Conscious Breathing. That's my message to everyone because that has helped me. And not only me, I have a client who was suffering from so much of anxiety at a very, uh, good position in life with a lot of money also, but there was no happiness. He came to me, I just want to feel happy, and Conscious Breathing has helped him to be happy. And not only happy, his connection with the, um, the, his staff, the office staff, his business has scaled up very well, his partnerships have improved a lot, and he was struggling in money part, that has improved a lot, that has opened up very beautifully. He was saying, last 4 years I was struggling so much in each area. After Conscious Breathing and a little bit of life coaching, he has evolved into a very beautiful human being. So the message is start conscious breathing, everyone, because that's Prana, that's the base of life.
True, I agree, I agree.
And when I was experiencing that death, that one breath made me come here back to this Earth. So we are all humans staying on Earth plane, so we need to practice and learn about conscious breathing because half of the time we are not breathing also properly.
There was a saying like the first thing we do when we are born is breathe in. The last thing we'll do when we are leaving this planet is breathe out. What we have in between is life.
Absolutely, sir. Yes.
And how did Diamond impacted you? Like, Diamond membership, what really inspired you to be part of Diamond? And what about the people thinking about Diamond? How did it help you?
Sir, I took Diamond because I wanted to be with this community, with you. Because in the day-to-day life, we tend to forget again. We go into the same trap of life. But if I'm in Diamond, I know I'm committed to the community and committee— community is committed to me. That actually helps me, and my awareness is always there towards conscious breathing, right? So that has helped me a lot. And Diamond is my lifetime savior. I know if I'll drift a little also sometimes, but this will pull me back. So that's the reason I am in Diamond. Second thing, your recorded courses have helped me a lot. Whenever I have time, I just put them on while chopping vegetables, while cooking also I'm listening to your courses and slowly, slowly imbibing and learning and implementing everything, sir. So Diamonds has helped me like that, plus the nutritionists and the community support, the doctor, everything, community members, community members have helped me, inspired me. There are 85, 80 years of age and they are so energetic and vibrant, that makes me feel alive. So it's always when you see somebody like 10 years, 20 years ahead of you and living better life than you, then you get more inspired also. So CBH is my inspiration and Diamond is super inspiration for me.
So Namrata, like I know that you are a mother, you are also doing your coaching and you have to manage your family responsibilities. Like many women tell me that I cannot able to manage this many responsibilities and I don't have time to do all of this. How are you managing it, sir? And what roles do you play actually?
Thank you so much for asking this because this will inspire a lot of women. Because the most juggling is between work and home. If a woman walks out of home to work, it's easier. But staying at home, doing your work from home and managing the home, it's an art, sir. So for me, I get up in the morning, I do my rituals, everything. With you, I do my exercises. I'm sorted with that. And I have actually demarcated different, different time zones. This is my study time, this is my work time, this is my call time, this is my cooking time. I do not switch over my time no matter what happens. If there is an urgent client also, I ask them to wait for 1 hour at least. Or rather, I will train my home for that. So I keep something ready so that there is no panic situation in urgency also, so they can manage themselves. And to your question, sir, I'm a mom, I have 2 kids, I have my husband, I have a pet also at home, I have friends, I have social circle, and I have a very big family also to take care of. So yes, breathing actually is helping me, what I feel. This has become my lifestyle. With every role I switch over, I take a pause, I take a deep breath. Okay, from my sessions I am moving towards my homemaker role, from homemaker to this, to this. So that has helped me, and there is no panic situation within me.
Absolutely.
And that has come, I think, with practice.
True, true, true.
Constant practice, constant asking myself and being in awareness. Okay, how can I make it better? How can I make it better? Every day I ask myself, how can I make it better?
Awesome.
Yeah, because as a wife, as a mother, as a homemaker, we are truly dedicated to the family also.
True.
So we cannot see any— anything to be compromised. But now we have adapted how we can compromise also, yet not being feeling the guilt inside ourselves. So for that, I think again, breathing is helping me.
Absolutely. Yeah, that's every woman like goes through this, right? So they play multiple roles rather than men.
Yes.
And I think by them adopting this breathing, they can able to really manage well. It's not like it's taking your time, it's helping you to give more time and manage.
Yes, yes. And skills, of course, everybody can learn, but the beginning of learning to every skill is your breathing. Because breathing gives you clarity, breathing gives you courage, breathing gives you awareness to what you really want in life.
Yeah.
So to every woman, whatever they are seeking for and they are wanting, they should actually start pursuing. Yes, and every passion needs to be seen and heard and fulfilled also.
True. Yeah, absolutely, I agree.
That's it. And everybody can do it. If I can do it, everybody can do it.
Yes, yes. Every woman who is watching this, I highly recommend you like integrate this. Like, you will become better mother.
Yes.
Better homemaker.
Yes.
Better at your profession. Better wife. Yes. In whatever roles you are playing, especially.
And very, very special message I want to send to every parent Any parent who is having a child of 1 year also, or thinking of delivering a baby, they should immediately start practicing conscious breathing and yogic wisdom also, because that will help them to deliver a healthier and a happier baby and a happy, fulfilled life ahead also.
True.
Yeah, that's the base, sir. We think about eating a lot, doing so many things, but these basic principles need to be taught. To the society.
I know that you are waiting for the most important segment, favorite segment of yours. Yes, sir. Namrata, I would like to ask you, what is your one of favorite breathing?
Sir, if you ask me, it's Lion Breathing.
Great, awesome! Shall we practice that now?
Yes, we can.
Why Lion Breathing?
So being a wife, being a mother, being a homemaker, being a professional, every day we are dealing with so many things, right? So accumulation of anger actually comes. So this actually helps me to take out my anger so, so that, that anger doesn't spill on everyone. So that's it.
Yeah, yeah. So let's do this.
Yes, sir, let's do that.
Okay, so please sit comfortably, everyone. Yes, Lion Breathing is one of the powerful breathing. Again, if you have high BP or any heart-related problems, I recommend you to avoid this practice. Yeah, so place your both hands on your thighs or knees, closer to your knees. And this is a sitting variation we are doing, okay? So in Lion's Breathing, what we should do is we have to roll our shoulders back while inhaling, and while exhaling, exhale through our mouth. Inhale and exhale through your mouth. And you, while you're doing this, you have to look in between your eyebrows. So let's do it now. Breathe in, exhale forcefully. And start inhaling and exhaling through your mouth. Look in between your eyebrows. We'll repeat one more time. Breathe in. And relax. Now close your eyes, close your mouth, observe the changes. And slowly and gently open your eyes. One of the powerful breathing practice which you can integrate into your lifestyle. Do this in the early morning with empty stomach. Okay, your story is very, very inspiring. I know that every woman goes through this kinds of struggle, but, but there is a way to live better life as well. I think your story is showing them that like how you can live irrespective of the challenges which you are going through, how you can lead a better life.
Yes, absolutely. Yes, and we can start anytime.
Absolutely, anytime.
I started with nothing, and today I am blessed to have everything, and I am living a very fulfilled life.
Thank you, thank you so much.
