Handwoven yoga mats made from cotton and Shambhu grass are disappearing as orders dried up, forcing 5,000 skilled artisans to quit. The Conscious Breathing Hub is trying to save the craft by buying directly from weavers and asking customers to do the same.
Chapters
The journey of an organic yoga mat begins in the fields where farmers carefully harvest natural crops like cotton, Shambhu grass using traditional tools. After the fibers are carefully harvested, they are tied into bundles and prepared for the natural drying process, allowing them to retain their strength and quality. Once the drying process is complete, the fibers are bundled once again. Ready to be transported to the weaving centers for the next stage of manufacturing. At the weaving center, the dried fibers are carefully measured and cut to the required length based on the dimensions of the yoga mat. Once the fibers are cut to size, the artisans begin the intricate process of weaving the organic yoga mat by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations. This traditional craft provided livelihoods for over 5,000 skilled weavers. Today, only a few remain, with a sharp decline in regular orders, many artisans have been forced to leave the craft and turn to other fields just to meet their basic daily needs. This art is not being lost due to lack of talent, but due to lack of opportunity. We sincerely request your support through consistent orders. Your encouragement allows us to continue this meaningful work with dignity while delivering products that meet the highest standards of quality and tradition. Please support our community and help keep this heritage alive. As a gesture of gratitude and support, Conscious Breathing Hub extends heartfelt gifts to the weavers, honoring their dedication, craftsmanship, and the tradition they so proudly preserve.
