In this instructional YouTube video, internationally certified yoga and breathing coach Badrinath Gella explains sinusitis, its prevalence, symptoms, and triggers, then guides viewers through three simple breathing techniques that can be practiced at home to alleviate sinus inflammation and congestion. He begins with striking statistics about sinus cases in the US and India, defines sinus infections as inflammation of the facial sinus passages often caused by allergies, colds, or respiratory infections, and describes common symptoms such as headache, pressure, and difficulty breathing. Gella outlines essential preparation tips—maintaining an erect spine, relaxed shoulders, neck, and sitting comfortably (cross‑legged or on a chair) preferably on an empty stomach or at least three hours after a meal. He then demonstrates three breathing exercises: (1) Candle Breathing, where the practitioner imagines blowing out candles in a semicircle, inhaling through the nose and forcefully exhaling; (2) Alternate Nostril (Nasika Mudra) Breathing, using thumb and fingers to close one nostril while inhaling through the other, alternating sides slowly to clear nasal passages; and (3) Bhastrika (Bellows) Breathing, involving fists raised with fingers open on inhalation and fists returned to the chest on forceful exhalation, repeated six times. Throughout, Gella emphasizes correct posture, slow controlled breaths, and the necessity of active participation for results, while also noting safety cautions (avoid fast execution if uncomfortable). The session concludes with relaxation, a reminder to practice regularly, and a call to like, share, comment, and subscribe.

Sinus infections are often caused by the inflammation in sinus passages. The sinus passages are located in your facial region. If there is any inflammation, you might be experiencing the symptoms of your sinus. This is often caused, often triggered by by the symptoms like allergies, colds, and other respiratory infections. When the sinuses become blocked, congested, it can also lead to the headache, pressure, and difficulty in your breathing. The good news is we have different breathing techniques which can really help you reduce the inflammation and improve the flow of air in the sinuses. These exercises are very simple. You can do it at your home and you can do from anywhere, which can be done, ideally done with an empty stomach. Let us get in. Before we go to the practices, here are the few things you have to remember. Make sure your spine is erect, your shoulders are relaxed, your neck is relaxed, and you have to sit in a comfortable position. If you are not comfortable in cross-legged position or any sitting postures, you can also practice while sitting on the chair or on the stool. You can ideally practice with empty stomach or after taking meal before 3 hours, like give it 3 hours gap between your meal. So here I am going to first, first breathing I am going to teach you is a candle breathing, candle blowing. This is very, very simple and important breathing. And for this, make sure your back is and spine is erect and place your left hand on your left knee. Close your eyes. Inhale from your left, close your left, exhale from your right, inhale from your— close your left exhale from your left and inhale from your left, close your left exhale from your right, inhale from your right Close your right. Exhale from your left. Inhale from your left. Exhale from your right. Do it slowly, as slow as possible. Make sure your spine is erect, your eyes are closed. Inhale from your right. Exhale from your left and slowly release your hand. Observe the calmness and open your eyes. I trust you all are practicing along with me. Very, very important. Just by watching, you will not be getting any results. You have to practice along with me. The next breathing we'll discuss is Bhastrika breathing. Bellows breath. Bhastrika breathing is very, very important. Another important breathing. For this, make a fist with your both hands and fist is turning towards your chest. While inhaling, you have to raise your both hands up and open your fingers. And while forcefully exhaling, you have to bring your fist back towards your chest. Absorbing. We'll do this for 6 times and relax. Okay, make a fist.
Inhale.
Relax. Make sure you are throwing your chest forward. Okay, we'll repeat this again. Make a fist, inhale, relax. If you have any problems, try to avoid this. Next, we'll do fastly. If you have any difficulties in doing it fastly, please avoid this. We'll do it fastly another time. Make a fist facing towards your chest.
