🔍 The Leadership Mirror — Diagnose Your Culture in 5 Questions | 10X in Under 10 Minutes (Ep 6)

A short coaching video by Ben Shaib introducing the “Leadership Mirror,” a five-question diagnostic leaders should use quarterly to align their behavior with desired culture. It explains each reflective question (modeling behavior, soliciting honest feedback, creating clarity, rewarding aligned outcomes, leading people vs. managing tasks), gives a founder case study where clarity fixed stalled performance, and offers a 3-step practice (self-review every 90 days, share one insight, change one behavior for 30 days).
In the last episode, we talked about accountability and how to drive results without micromanaging. Today we're closing the loop with the final piece of the leadership system awareness. Because you can't fix what you won't face and you can't improve what you won't measure. Welcome to 10X in under 10 minutes. I'm Ben Shaid and today we're talking about the leadership mirror. A simple 5 question x ray that reveals what's really happening in your culture. This is the tool I teach my private clients and it's one of the most powerful sections in my book. The Human Connection. Here's the truth. Most leaders company is a reflection of you. If you're calm, your team feels clear. If you're chaotic, your team feels confused. If you avoid hard conversations, your culture learns to do the same. Culture doesn't start in the employee handbook, it starts in the mirror. The leadership mirror is how you check if what you say as a leader matches what you show. Because the moment those two drift apart, trust erodes, engagement falls, and performance cracks. Here are the five questions every leader should ask at least once a quarter. They're simple, but they reveal everything. Question 1 Do I model the behaviors I expect from my team? If you expect punctuality, are you on time? If you want accountability, do you own your mistakes publicly? Leaders create culture by example, not by email. Question 2 Do I know what my team really feels, not just what they tell me? If the last time you got honest feedback was during an exit interview, you're leading blind. Ask, what's one thing I could do better as your leader? Then listen without defending. Do I give clarity or do I create confusion? Unclear goals are one of the fastest ways to lose momentum. If your team can't tell you the top three priorities this quarter, that's on you. Do I reward what I say I value? If you say innovation matters, but you only reward short term results, you're teaching people to play safe. Your culture is built on what you celebrate, not what you say. Question 5Am I leading people or am I managing tasks? Managers count inputs, leaders create outcomes. If your calendar is full of check ins but empty of connection, it's time to shift those five questions form your leadership mirror. Answer them honestly and you'll see exactly where your culture is thriving and where it's bleeding. A few years ago, I worked with a founder who couldn't figure out why his once thriving company had stalled. Revenue was flat, his leaders were disengaged and everyone looked busy. But nothing was moving. We walked through the Leadership Mirror together, not by the third question, do I create clarity or confusion? He stopped. He realized his team had no idea what their real priorities were because he changed direction weekly. They weren't slow. They were reacting to constant redirection. Within 90 days of focusing on clarity and consistency, his team reignited. They didn't need more pressure, they needed more alignment. Here's how to use the Leadership Mirror in your own business. Step 1 Ask yourself these five questions every 90 days. Step 2 Share one insight with your team. Vulnerability breeds trust. Step 3 Pick one behavior to improve for 30 days. You don't need to overhaul everything. Just adjust one mirror angle at a time. Because when the leader changes, the culture follows. So here's your 10x shift today. Find a quiet space this week. Pull out a notebook and write down your answers to the five Leadership Mirror questions. If you're brave enough to look in the mirror, you're strong enough to grow.
