Ben Chaib argues leaders mistake activity for impact and need simpler metrics. One company cut 42 KPIs down to five and saw faster execution and lower stress in 60 days. Start by removing one metric this week and replacing it with a question your team actually cares about.

Most leaders track everything and understand almost nothing. Dashboards are full, meetings are long, but performance still stalls. That's because measurement doesn't drive behavior, but meaning does. Welcome to 10X in under 10 minutes. I'm Ben Shaib. Today we're talking about the Performance Pulse. How to measure what actually matters so your team stays motivated, not micromanaged. Most companies confuse activity with impact. They track what's easy, not what's effective. When people don't understand why a metric matters, they game it. When they don't feel connected to it, they ignore it. Metrics should clarify priorities, not create anxiety. I worked with a company tracking 42 KPIs. No one could tell me which three actually mattered. We stripped it down to five pulse metrics, ones the team could feel daily. Within 60 days, execution sped up, stress dropped, and ownership increased. Less data, more direction. Here's the system. The Performance Pulse. Three metrics. Number one, Outcome metrics. Did we win? Number two, Behavior metrics. How did we win? And number three, health metrics. Can we keep winning? If you miss health metrics, like burnout, engagement and clarity, your results will decay. If you miss behavior metrics, wins will not repeat. Great leaders track results, behaviors and energy. Your 10x shift. Kill one metric this week. Replace it with a question your team actually cares about. Performance isn't about pressure. It's about pulse. I go deeper on this in my book, the Human Connection, Unlocking Potential in Business and Leadership. If you want help redesigning your scorecard, let's talk next Monday. We'll talk about leading in the gap. How to balance patience and pressure as you scale. I'm Ben shaib. This is 10x in under 10 minutes.
