If you're struggling with forgiveness, this message is for you. I once heard my spiritual director, Richard Rohr, say that forgiveness is letting go of the hope for a different or better past. And when we think about people who have offended us, we re experience the pain of that offense. Every time we think about it, we feel angry, we want to punch them, we feel resentful, we're bitter about it. And what happens is that unforgiveness continues to bring with you in the present moment the pain and the hurt that was caused in the past. So then there's an opportunity for you to choose you and free yourself from this resistance you have, thinking that forgiveness is about the other person. So think about that person who hurt you and decide today that you're going to look at forgiveness as choosing you rather than accepting him or her.
