Do You Want To Become Better?

A short monologue by Betsy Guerra arguing that to become a better version of yourself you must 'unbecome'—shed adopted identities, ego-driven independence, and self-limiting beliefs to reconnect with your original, spiritual self. The speaker uses the analogy of separation from a mother and from God to illustrate how learned identities and habits can be unlearned.

You've been in a journey to become a better version of yourself and you can't seem to make it because you, you're doing all these things and you're adding to your plate and then in the end you're setting yourself up for failure because you can't keep up with everything you're doing to become better. Well, that's because the secret to become your best self is to un become. In order to be better, you need to unbecome first. What do I mean by this? When you were born, you were perfectly made to God's image and likeness. You were one with your creator or co creator, which was your mom, right? Like you depended on your mom fully to feed, to clean yourself, to bathe, to sleep. You were one with her. And as you grew older and you started adopting all these labels and identities of oh, I'm independent, oh I can crawl, I can walk on my own, I can ask for food, I can feed myself, you started separating from your mom, from that oneness and becoming more independent. But the same is true with God, your creator. You started separating from him because you think you know so much and you're so wise and you don't need him anymore, just how you don't need your mom. But the thing is, we're supposed to become independent from our parents because the things that your mom and your dad taught you are things that you can learn and practice on your own. But the things that God teaches us, the things that he gives us, are things that we cannot attain by ourselves. So as you have grown older and you've adopted this ego, this identity of I can, I have all these things that you, you know that I'm capable of doing and accomplishing without any help. You became someone that you were not created to be. So the best thing that you can do now is to start unbecoming, start humbling yourself, start operating from the spirit instead of the ego. And one more thing, as you've adopted those identities, you've also included self limiting beliefs. I'm not a night person, I'm not a morning person, I can't do this, that's not my thing, I'm not techie. All these things that you tell yourself that prevent you from reaching your potential are things that you can unbecome. Because in the end those are habits of thinking, habits of actions, habits nonetheless. That's not who you are. That's not your personality. That's an identity that you have adopted as real because it served you in the past. But if it's not serving you anymore. You can unlearn it and unbecome it.
