Betsy Guerra lost her pet Fofi and felt God answered her prayers through unexpected kindness: a priest's visit, strangers' hugs, blue bracelets, meals, and a flowering plant. Each act of care became proof she wasn't alone.
Chapters
When I experienced the loss of Fofi, in addition to people extending a hand to me, I found myself in that pit extending my arms and begging for help. And I was from the beginning begging God for hope. But God sent me angels. He sent me the priest the day after Fofi passed to bring me that hope so that I could borrow the belief from him that it was possible to be happy again. And he sent me people who would randomly hug me in the streets, people I I didn't know strangers, and they would bring me blue bracelets that they made because Fofi's favorite color was blue. They would give me a hug, or they would say, "I'm praying for you," or they brought me food for weeks. They brought me a plant that had blue flowers. The most beautiful things. Those were all people who had a ladder and came down to extend a hand and let me know that I wasn't alone. I was not alone.
