Betsy Guerra grew up in a family that taught her to give everything away and feel guilty about receiving. She rewired her money mindset using the Be-Do-Have model, then created a ritual: each time money arrives, she closes her eyes, thanks Jesus, and affirms her right to receive.

There was a time in which I had to do a lot of money mindset programming in my brain. I grew up with the belief that money is to give away to the poor. My dad is a very generous person, biggest heart I've ever known, and I inherited a little bit of that gene, but with some distortion. Give all you have to those who have a little bit less and sacrifice yourself in the process. And that hasn't served me. I taught people how to not do for me, how to not give me, 'cause I wasn't comfortable receiving. I didn't know how to receive or ask. That version of me felt guilty about keeping money, felt guilty about spending money on herself, felt guilty about going on a splurge, like, you know, splurging on something that she liked. And the new identity that I needed to tap into in order to process that Be-Do-Have model was someone who felt worthy of the same things that I believe other people are worthy of. So what did that look like? Every time I received money, I closed my eyes and I practiced is gratitude. Because that version of me was so grateful for everything. That version of me, instead of pushing it away because I don't know how to receive, that version of me was like, give it to me, baby, and thank you, Jesus.
