Is Money Your Master?

Betsy Guerra explores whether money controls you or serves you. She pushes you to examine your own beliefs about money and how they shape your relationship with it, asking whether money is your master or your servant.

We all have to deal with money, and we all have limiting beliefs about money. So let's reflect on what money is and whether it's our master or our servant. Money is a tool. It's a thing that we use to exchange for something we want or desire. Money is neutral. It's not good or bad. What makes money positive or negative, is the use we make of it and how we value and identify with it, like the meaning that we attribute to it. If money becomes the end all, be all, then it can be our master, it can own us, and it may be the root of all evil. But if money is the tool that it was meant to be and, and it's what allows us to acquire the things that are going to elevate us and help us become the best version of ourselves that God created us to be, then money is the best thing in the world. Money is what you make it out to be. What is master, Money as your master? Well, a master is a person who owns you, who determines what you're going to do or what you're not going to do, who has to give you permission to do, to explore, to accomplish the thing that you want. A servant is the one who responds to your requests, who obeys, who supports you, who is there to do whatever you wanted to do. That's a servant. Wouldn't it be great if money was a servant? If it's served, if it supported us, if we used it for what we were created to be? I grew up thinking that money is to give to the poor, that we shouldn't be greedy or ambitious and wanting money is bad and luxuries are bad, and all these ideas that were founded in my family's religious beliefs. So I had a lot of money mindset problems when it came to to this idea. And I've had to do a lot of work to rise above it and to let God be the one to guide me as to what meaning he wants me to give to this thing, this exchange of energy, and this tool that he has created for us to use and to support us. And in doing so, I've learned that for many people who believe that money is their servant, money is really being their master. And I want you to reflect on this. When you have to get gas for your car, what gas station do you go to? Do you go to the one that's most convenient, that's closest? Or do you go to the one that's cheaper? What about the grocery store? When you have to go do groceries, do you go to the supermarket? That's most convenient that you like the most, or do you go to the one that's cheapest? Your kids school, the activities that you engage in, all the programs that you sign up for, the degree that you want to acquire, the school that you want to go to. Is all of that determined by the price? If so, money is being your master. When you think that way, and here you are thinking that in your humility and spending a little bit and not being, you know, not wasting money, you're. You're making it your servant. But the truth is that when money determines what you do and how you do it, where you go, then money is your master. And you get to live in a life of abundance, which is what God created for us. And understand that all the money in the world is accessible to you. You and you have the opportunity to tap into through your faith by knowing that God will always provide for what you need and what's important for you in your life. So instead of worrying so much about money and what you can afford and where to go, worry about connecting with the God of abundance and understanding that whatever God puts in your heart, he's also going to give you the talents and, and the resources, including cash, to be able to fulfill it.
