A short YouTube clip by Betsy Guerra teaching two core coaching skills for everyday supporters: (1) listen — actively and quietly to hold space, allow vulnerability, and let silence itself be healing; and (2) ask questions — begin with exploratory questions rather than offering opinions so you can discover what support the person needs and help elevate them.

We are all coaches. You have coached someone in your life because you have supported and guided a loved one at some point. And since you're already a life coach, allow me to teach you the two top coaching skills that I teach my students. Number one, listen. Listen, Linda, listen when you are quietly and actively listening to the person in front of you, you hold space. You provide them the opportunity to open up, to share, to be vulnerable and to heal. So so silence alone is very healing. And number two, when you do ask a question because that's what you're going to start with. You're not going to start with your opinion. You're going to start with a question because question means that you're going on a quest. You're exploring to see what it is that that person needs for you to support them. So listen and then ask questions that open path so that you can really elevate that person.
