Betsy Guerra explores the idea that we receive what we believe we deserve, extending it to faith: God won't give us blessings we're not spiritually prepared to receive. If we can't 'fit' the gift, it stays inaccessible. Being must come before doing.

I think it was Oprah who said, we don't get what we want, we get what we believe we deserve. We always say like, God doesn't give you anything you can't handle, but that also means God doesn't give you the blessings, the graces, the gifts that you can't handle. If you can't fit the graces and the gifts that God has for you, it doesn't matter how much he tries to give it to you, they don't fit, so you can't receive them, period. But is it because he doesn't want to give them to you? Heck no. We must not the being. Doing comes only after you've mastered that so that the doing can be informed by the being. Being comes first.
