Betsy Guerra argues great life coaches aren't defined by having it all figured out or formal credentials, but by lived adversity like divorce and grief. The testimony that emerges from personal tests is what inspires clients and converts coaches into guides worth following.

Today we're going to talk about what makes a great life coach. If you've ever been curious about becoming a life coach and elevating humanity in doing so, I want you to reflect on this. We tend to think, oh, a life coach is someone who has it all put together and all figured out and who's perfect and successful and all these things. And the truth is that most life coaches earn that title and are chosen to be so because they've gone through tests and adversities and pain and because they haven't had it all figured out that what makes a life coach special is the testimony that person has and the lessons that that person has experienced and learned, learned from the adversities and tests that they've gone through. So if you feel like, you know, how can I be a life coach for couples if I've gotten a divorce? Well, maybe you know better than anybody how to coach someone in the relationship because you failed in it and you have the testimony that came with the test because there's no testimony without test, the testimony to elevate and inspire that couple. If you've experienced grief, as have I, and you've been in the bottom in a pit and you've thought you can't get out of there, well, you have a testimony, too. And your rising above that grief is what provides hope. Your mere existence, your life is already inspiring to your clients. So don't think you have to have it all figured out. However, make sure that you're always looking to better yourself and to walk the talk so that you may be an embodiment of what you're going to teach your clients. So the best life coach is not someone who went to school for it and studied it and, you know, chose it. The best life coaches are usually chosen. They're chosen by God. Those are the ones who are defined not by their tests, but rather their testimony of success and rising. So if you've gone through any of this, you are exactly the person that others are waiting for to guide them, show up for them.
