Where Did God Go?

Betsy Guerra speaks to people who feel abandoned by God during hard times. She says God's promise is presence, not perfect circumstances. Three moves: invite God in through your free will, actively look for Him in small blessings and people, and if He still feels absent, trust He may be carrying you.

This video is for those people who sometimes wonder, where did God go? We all have an idea as to how life is supposed to be. We have our expectations, our desires, our dreams. And sometimes life surprises us and it pleases us. Other times it does more than what we expected. And then other times, what we wanted and hoped for doesn't happen the way we needed it to, and we experience pain. And oftentimes in those moments, you wonder, where did God go? I was faithful to Him. I was doing the right thing. I'm a good person. And we have this idea that because we're good people and we're Christians and we believe, then we're supposed to always be happy. But that wasn't the promise. The promise. The promise was not that life was going to be perfect, but rather that he was going to be with us all the time. So if you can't find God wherever you're at, do three things for me. Number one, open the door. Imagine that the door that separates you from God is a door that only has one handle and lock on one side. The other side has no way of opening it. It's locked. So in order for God to come into your life, you who have free will, you need to open the door. You're the only one who has access to it. So start with opening the door so that he may peek in and come in. He's a gentleman. He doesn't go into your life unless you let Him. Look for him in the little things, in the blessings, in the surprises of the day to day. Look for God in nature. Look for God in an angel that came to help you or said the right thing. Look for him in books, podcasts, videos. Look for him and me here. And number three, know that if you can't find him, even though you open the door and you look for him in the little things, it's because he is carrying you. So just get comfy and feel his embrace. He is carrying you. You know that poem of the footprints that talks about like, hey, God, I look back at my life and I saw that, you know, throughout my life, when I was happy, there were two sets of footprints. But then when I was in excruciating pain, there was only one set. And then in the end it says, that's because I was the one carrying you. It was my set of footprints. I love that. I love that poem because it expresses the truth about him always being there with us. Feel his embrace.
