Short YouTube excerpt (speaker: Betsy Guerra) explaining how thoughts—described as simple sentences—become beliefs through repetition and familiarity, and how held beliefs shape behavior to create a self-fulfilling prophecy (i.e., beliefs contributing to their own realization).

If you believe something, it's true. I always when I speak to, especially to kids I tell them thoughts are sentences. That's it, that's all they are. They're a sentence that popped up in your head and you can choose to believe it or not. But when a thought is recurring, it's repetitive. You hear it over and over again, whether it's from someone else or from yourself. Then that repetition, that familiarity creates the habit of thinking a certain way which then turns into a belief. So thoughts are just sentences that if they're repeated and you're exposed to them recurringly, they become beliefs. And then if you repeat the belief like you, you hold on to it, you don't try to discredit it, this is it, then that becomes reality. And in psychology that's called self fulfilling prophecy. A prophecy is something that you say is going to happen and it does happen, but self fulfilling suggests that you contributed to making it happening.
