Billy Malady fixes his 12% grade driveway that kept washing out in spring rains. He imported asphalt mill, compacted it smooth, and cut drainage trenches with a mini-excavator to divert water. The result: a surface so smooth you don't need four-wheel drive anymore.

Alright, so this is the driveway. I didn't film it with all the ruts in it, but the first thing we did was smooth it out. Alright, there's my CC Ranch entrance, and walking back up the driveway. Again, this is a trench. We're going to put a culvert in here. Water is going to come down through here cut across here and drain out through that way. All right, I got this big pile of asphalt mill, and what we're working on is I have a very, very steep driveway. Um, I don't know if you can look around and see how high we are, but the top of this hill is equivalent to 22 stories, and my driveway is at the steepest point a 12% grade. We had a lot of heavy rains this spring and my driveway, I mean, it literally just washed out. So what I'm doing, and I had gravel on it, but the gravel washed away too and left these little trenches. So I decided to go with asphalt mill. We're gonna drop that down, pack it down, and we're gonna cut some drainage trenches in it, put some additional culverts, and hopefully I will have a driveway that doesn't require a four-wheel drive to come in. Here's the little bitty excavator that I rented to dig the drainage trenches. This is where we are digging one of the drainage trenches right here. Here we are. There's Ace. Well, we finally got the driveway finished, so it was 5, 3, 5 truckloads, big giant dump truck loads of this asphalt mill. Had to dig, put some culverts in, and the driveway was just all rock. It kept getting washed out every time it rained, and basically it was very bumpy. And you needed a four-wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway. It had some serious ruts and some big boulders in it that just kept rolling into it as stuff continues to wash. But now we've got this asphalt mill and it is smooth as butter. So should have— would have been better if I did this in the middle of the summer when the heat could get on it. And kind of help keep this packed down. But it's packing down nicely. Anyway, driveway's done. Looks great, smooth. Happy with it.
