Village Creek trip car talk Nov 5 2016

Speaker A and Madison drive to Village Creek State Park, debating what counts as an "L" and swapping stories about past hikes, food cravings, and why American Horror Story got worse. They riff on Halloween costumes, Winnebago dreams, and a dog that won't stay in its yard.

office. Look, she's already, she's already figured it out.
She got out of the gate last night. Yeah, I know, she busted through.
Either, either we find a way to fix that one side that she gets out, or like when I came down last night to get that Mountain Dew and she was out in the office just looking at me, I just took the— I, I took the gate up and just put it into the fireplace. I was like, that was a waste of $50. Well, you need to put like some brakes. Well, as long as she's got that, uh, other bed in that office, she don't seem to care.
We mostly just did that so she won't like be on the furniture and stuff.
Yeah, because she was getting— she wanted to get on the couch and, um, yeah, Mommy doesn't like that. This is—
yeah, this is—
how is this an L? This is an L. How is this an L?
This is an L. How is this an L?
This is—
how?
This is an L for you. But I want to know how this is an L.
I don't think so.
This is not what's making me feel ill.
Yeah, why wouldn't it? Make you feel a loser?
Yes, Madison, this does not make me feel like a loser.
This is massive.
First it did.
I mean, you would roll it, they would like run it right in the closet. Yeah, but it doesn't An L.
I disagree. Who, who thinks this counts as an L? What is an L?
Shows love.
That is not an L. See, she— no, she says it's not an L.
See, for her it's not. Yeah, it is.
How is it not an L for her?
She doesn't love doing it.
No, that's not what I'm talking about.
That's not what the L stands for. Yeah, you said love, so you had to L. No, you said do something—
you do it for somebody else because you love them, right? So she said this isn't an L for her, so she ain't doing it because She loves somebody.
Is that it? That one?
Yeah, this, this is your payback for Halloween. You remember that conversation, right?
Halloween, I already said you pay for something.
Remember I had to go hop trick-or-treating?
Buy you something. I had—
with what?
My money. All right, give me $20.
You don't have to go hiking.
You sit in the car. Hey, Mom, I don't have no money. I have—
it looks like you're— looks like you're hiking. Would you ever go back and do that marshals hike again if it weren't this hot?
It wasn't hot. No, you would do it again if it was hotter. No, everybody see that?
I would do it again if it was hotter. I would do it again if it was hotter. Let's see if Megan has the same regrets that Manicia has about the arch.
Yeah, I wish I had went under the arch.
She says she regrets she didn't walk all the way down to the big arch.
I kind of wish I would have been.
I was just scared because I'm such a wimp. It was so big down there. It was so much larger than it looks down there.
You did a good job of explaining that.
But you can look at the people down there, they look like ants underneath that arch. You can tell how huge it is down there.
Yeah, but after you died, you're just hilarious. Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm tired of this already. I don't care about the arch.
Well, that was because whoever was leading with the map that day— I know— chose to stop at other things before we went to the Delicate Arch.
If we would have done that first, it probably wouldn't have been as bad. And then now those little ones—
but somebody Somebody, I don't know, I can't remember. It was a long time ago. Somebody, I gotta see this arch, I gotta see that arch.
And that was like the least— the shortest one. You know where you said you wanted Chick-fil-A? Yeah. Yes, you are.
We remember. We all remember.
But you know what, our paper said that we were going to do that. That first? That first.
Nearest Chick-fil-A.
Yep.
Jonas did the Corn Palace. Jonas did— hey, Corn Palace was on the list. It was, and that's something y'all should regret not getting out. By the end of this hike, we're going to be hungry. It's all pulling to our fat cells. I'm losing weight already.
I feel it.
I feel like I'm losing weight.
You know what, there you go.
You could have brownies and monkey bread for breakfast. Yeah, yeah, I'm videoing the trip.
Yeah, thank you, Captain Obvious. Boom! I'd go back.
Why is that? We didn't stay there long the first time.
Maybe since you went to the strip again. I don't want that motel being all that smoke.
All of those hotels have that smoke.
Yeah, you go and stay at casino. At casino? That's how my auntie says it. At casino. I don't know.
Is it casino?
You, you can't— you're not one to be talking about how people pronounce that.
She wants a— she wants to rent a Winnebago, drive across the country in a Winnebago. Now she gets quiet. All of a sudden the cameras are on, she gets quiet.
Yeah, I'm probably the way I pictured it down on Big Creek when she got into my life.
What, the wanted criminal in the neighborhood stealing boxes? Did y'all see it? Y'all see it? Somebody, some Yeah, somebody's been taking, taking pizza boxes out of our garbage cans.
It's okay, Cinderella.
She's always in Halloween costumes and she's acting like she don't get paid.
Yeah, it's not even hard for you to just put a peanut butter spoon on it.
Yeah, it does. That gives me the right to put my peanut butter spoon anywhere I want.
As far as food and knives and like cookware stuff, they got peanut butter.
It's because I use it again.
Why keep dirtying up spoons?
Yeah, how about that? I bet it breaking the peanut butter though, wouldn't it?
I'm okay with plastic spoons. In Memphis, in Memphis, before they leave.
I tried to stop at Shoney's. No, your mom said no.
Your mom said no at the house.
She goes, I don't want to eat that ham. What they do is they take something true like Amityville Horror, they take a true story, a real American horror story, and then they make a show about it. So it's either— it's usually like a reenactment and it's supposed to be based on true stuff. Like Alcatraz or something? I don't know. Asylum? Asylum, yes. Is that Alcatraz?
I don't know.
Yeah, this hotel is one, isn't it? That's one. Is that the one lady got out of? I don't know.
We haven't seen anything.
We've seen one episode of season 1.
We saw 2 episodes.
2 episodes of season 1, and then somebody said go to season— the last season.
We did.
First on the surface, no, it's about a house, right?
Oh, oh, and that one—
that's the one we're watching now.
That's the last one. I don't think it was that great.
I thought the first one was, but the Killer with the, uh, Down syndrome girl and the crazy boy. Yeah, it's got some good actors in it, right? Oh, they've got some really good actors in it. Season 7 is gone. Oh really? Yeah, I just got to the part where you can get back from like hell and stuff. Yeah, after season 7 it starts going downhill.
After season 7, you don't think it's the last one?
No, it's still on. It's still on, but is the last season. Oh, they already announced I thought you said they did.
I said they're debating it.
Is that like season 10 or 11?
Season 12 or 11.
I don't know, it's, it's— the show is just so bad now. And now his mom's in it. I'm like, for Jesus' sake, sweet Christmas, go away. I've been going for 12 years. They probably run out of stuff. They have run out of stuff. They'd be better off just to go back and hunt the same stuff over again, right?
I mean, they stopped hunting.
Yeah, they don't hunt anymore. That's the problem.
The problems are about them now. They ain't hunters no more, right? It was cool when you're hunting something and ruining other people's lives. Then it's like, damn, trying to go after—
I'm like, why is your mom—
give me my mom back!
Because Lucifer— look at this, look at that, there's a canyon. It is a canyon, it's like a mini Grand Canyon. There's a submarine.
How far is this party movie?
Oh my gosh, was that the orgy?
I'm like, what?
That was the worst movie ever. That's the only part I've seen.
Oh, you didn't see the whole movie? Oh my gosh, did y'all watch the entire thing? Yeah, yeah, like idiots. We've got it, we got it.
There are some cute scenes, but for the most part it's just a stupid movie. What's the point of that movie? Negative stuff.
I can't even remember. This was cute.
It could have been great.
Yeah, that's the point of it. They thought—
no, they thought that getting picked to go out the grocery store was like going to heaven. Like, I've been chosen, I've been chosen! And then this one return got brought back, was like, it's crazy out there, you don't know what's going on. Then he was like giving visions of like they were chopping up carrots She's like, they're killing us! And then all of a sudden everybody was scared to get chosen. Yeah, more city, 30 minutes. No, but I think we're gonna have to pass where we want to go to go eat because we want to go to that ridge right there.
Are you serious? Uh-huh. It's only 6 miles further.
We'll turn around and come back. Why do people keep stopping?
Oh no. Yeah, probably. Yeah, probably.
Probably. Crowley's Ridge has, uh, like 5 state parks, but we're gonna go to Village Creek State Park. Closest one is actually in Virginia.
Hey, did you bring your state park pass?
No, that's a national park though.
And not religious either.
That ridge right there, what do you think those trees are way up there? I smell— I smell pets.
I smell domestication. We ain't pets.
I smell domestication all over you.
That was fun.
Look at the beautiful foliage. Foliage?
Yeah, the foliage.
How is this an L? You don't like foliage? I mean, people got killed by bears. I'm asking, you don't like foliage? Foliage.
Well, how do you say it?
Forage.
What? Forest. God, what the freak are you talking about?
I don't know why forage even is. I guess you forage for food.
But you said that word, it messed me up.
Foliage. Foliage is a word.
Ain't nobody here.
That's what we want. Was that the visitor center?
Oh yeah, we got to pull to the visitor center. What are we going to find here?
We're going to get the maps.
We don't know where we're going. No. Oh, there's a little trail right there. Cool.
Wait for the rednecks.
What makes you think they're rednecks? Rednecks?
Yeah, look, a little trail.
I guess I should take this opportunity to pee.
You should.
You should take this—
give me that battery up there somewhere, wherever. Why don't you just let it keep charging? You want it now?
Yeah, it should be good.
It was still on red.
