Blair Singer breaks down three types of salespeople based on their commitment and follow-through. The talk emphasizes how honesty and accountability separate high performers from the rest.
There are three types of salespeople. There are salespeople that commit to doing something, and they go out and do it, and they succeed. There's a second group of people that go out to commit to doing something, and they try, but they don't succeed. But then there's the third level that commit to go out and doing something, but you never know what they do because they never report back. They never tell you whether they did it, didn't try it, or didn't try. And typically, those are the people you got to worry about because, in fact, they're not being accountable. Accountable doesn't mean you did the job correctly or you succeeded. It means you're accountable for your action whether you did it or you didn't do it. And sometimes when I'm teaching people how to be great in sales, that becomes the biggest lesson. The biggest lesson is, can you stand behind what you did or did not do, even if you blew off the whole assignment, but you're willing to be honest and be truthful of what you did. Where do you stand? Are you 1, 2, or 3? Be amazing.
