4 Ancient Buddhist Practices that will make you Successful

Blair Singer shares four Buddhist practices from a Thai monastery reframed for business: meditation to sharpen decisions, identifying greed and delusion to distinguish needs from wants, the Five Precepts applied to ethics and honesty, and cultivating mindfulness through a clean environment. Clear your mind and the answers to your biggest questions surface.
Foreign. Look, there are four, just four, only four very ancient Buddhist practices that if you understand what they are, can apply them, will make you very successful, make you rich, and most of all, make you very, very happy. And, and this is critical if you're going to scale a business, if you're going to build in as an entrepreneur, these four will make a very, very big difference. Now before I get into them, before I forget, if you're interested in going from solo rat race of solo entrepreneur into a fully scalable business, click on the pinned link below in the comment section. If you want to do it really fast, go to blairsinger.com forward/plan and we'll sit down and work it out with you. Okay, so what are these four practices? Well, I just got back from Thailand where we did some amazing, an amazing program and had the unbelievable, unbelievable honor of having spending three days at a Buddhist temple outside of Bangkok studying and meditating intently with a very senior, very profound Buddhist monk there. And the story how that happens, a completely different one. But it boiled down to four things. Four things I want to share with you and how it applies to your business. Okay, so the first thing is this. Clear your mind. Now, I know what that sounds crazy, but the way it was described to me, if you take a look at your brain like a glass of water or a river, look at a river, a muddy, muddy river. You don't know what's in the bottom of that river. You don't know what creatures are floating around, creatures that could take your head off down there. That's your mind clouded. Now, picture sailing a boat into a beautiful, pristine Caribbean lagoon. Crystal clear. You can see 40, 50ft all the way to the bottom. You can see 50 fish things crawling on the bottom. That's your mind. But you have a choice, one of two ways. See, the reason I got, I started to look at meditation and things like that is because as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, to scale, you're going to get hit with more problems and you need to make more decisions and there's going to be more stress, not less. And I want to make sure that I put myself in the right position. So how do you clear your mind, by the way? The way we do that, maybe in another video, but it's basically through meditation and the way to meditate, but to be able to clear your mind at that point, you can make decisions, you can see the future, you can see what other people don't see. And you be calm in the eye of a major storm. That's Number one. Number two, practice is to understand that human beings are born with three mental diseases. One is greed, one is hatred, and the other one is delusion. Greed, hatred, delusion. Think about it. Take a look at the world around you. You can see evidences all over the place. Greed, what y' all deal with right now is simply, as it was explained to me, not understanding the difference between greed. I'm sorry, between need and want. Need and wants. What is it you really need? What does he really want? If you have them all wrapped up together, you're never going to be happy because you're always going to want something that you don't necessarily need. That causes greed and can create lots of problems. So just review for a second. We're covering the four practices, the four ancient Buddhist practices over 2,500 years old that the. That were taught to me in a, in a, in a very intense session when I was in a Buddhist temple in Bangkok here just recently. Okay, so. And we covered the first two still. The mind, clear the mind, get the mind to clear, even if it's only for a second, doesn't need to be clear for hours, just for a couple minutes. And what happens is your ability to make decisions, think clearly and see clearly will make a very, very big difference. Hey, Eduardo. Good to see you. From Brazil. Okay. And number two had to do with fighting the three mental health issues we're all faced with, which is greed, hatred and delusion. Number three. Number three is to practice what was taught to me as the Five Precepts. The Five Precepts. Now, hopefully you're taking some notes because this all applies. I'm going to summarize it with a fifth point. They'll blow your mind how simple it is. Okay, how to do this? Okay, so five precepts, what are they? Well, you would be familiar. Don't kill. No killing, no stealing, no lying, no sexual misconduct, and no intoxication or polluting of your body. Now that seems simple, but what does that apply to you? Well, don't kill. That doesn't mean. Just don't kill living things. Don't kill dreams. Don't kill ideas. Don't kill your own attitude. Don't kill the things that give you life and spirit. Okay? Don't steal. Don't steal ideas. Don't plagiarize. Don't take from other people. Don't think, take things that are not yours. Don't steal ideas away from other people. Don't. Like I said, one of the big things in the training industry is to take Somebody's idea and put your own label on it. Don't do that. Don't do that. Okay, Number three, no extramarital sexual misconduct. Well, that. I happen to believe it very strongly in that, okay? And by the way, these are not different from part of the ten Commandments of Judeo Christian because. But here's what I noticed about this. This is not just about sexual misconduct and being unfaithful. This is about basic loyalty. Loyalty to your team, loyalty to your brand, loyalty to your commitments, loyalty to the things that you hold to be true for yourself, not compromising your ethics or your ideals. Now again, sexual misconduct, okay, we can't, whatever your belief is about that. But the precept that Buddha talked about all these years ago went far deeper than the words that you, that you read in the Five Precepts. Number four was don't lie. Now why does a person lie? Well, a person lies because they can't keep their agreements, time agreements. They're not punctual, they're messy, they're untidy. So the idea is don't lie. Tell the truth, even if it's painful to you and painful to other people. And the only person, person who knows they're lying is you and you know it. And it's much easier to play for pay forward from the truth than it is to lie because then you got to tell another lie and another lie and another lie. So don't lie. Okay? And the final one is no intoxication, okay? Or gambling or putting pollutants in your body. Now what's that mean in business as an entrepreneur? That means stay focused. What that means is don't self medicate. Don't turn to alcohol, don't turn to drugs, don't turn to shopping. Don't get distracted by the next shiny object. Stay focused. Intoxicating yourself with whatever it is with alcohol, pleasure shopping, whatever, whatever it is is simply an escape from dealing with what you need to deal with. It's a diversion from what you know you're supposed to be doing. Okay? So those are the five Precepts. So again, what have we covered so far? We've covered clearing your mind, getting the mud out of the mind so you can see clearly what's in what's right in front of you at all times. There's a big secret to that at the end, so stay tuned for that. Okay? Number two is fighting the three mental health diseases which are hatred, greed and delusion. Okay? And number three is practicing the five Precepts which I just went through now, number four is, how do you do this? And there's more to this than, than we have time for here right now. But let me just say it boils down to three areas. Boils down to wisdom, purity, and mindfulness. In other words, if you. And check this out. If you want to be able to practice all these things, there is one solution. You know what it is? Stay clean. Stay clean. Stay clean and tidy and orderly. In other words, no dirt in your space. No untidiness. You've got stuff in your closet. Clear it all out today. When you, as soon as it's done with this video, go in your office, clear the desk. Get rid of stuff that you don't need. Get your space to be clean, pristine and tidy. Now why do I say that? I say that it's kind of like when you go into a hotel room, that you're on the road. You go to a hotel room and the places and the room has been made up. And that peaceful feeling that you have when you walk in, that's what I'm talking about. Because from that space, ask yourself, do you feel big or do you feel small? And as an entrepreneur, everybody's going to try to knock you down and make you feel small. Not everybody, but there'll be elements of resistance out there, your own resistance and other resistance. So you owe it to yourself, to your dream and your team to practice these principles to that not proven by me, I mean, proven somewhat proven by me, but proven over 2,500 years by some of the best minds in spirituality that apply today more than ever in a crazy, crazy world. To get your space clean and to get your space tidy. To be punctual, to be polite. What does this sound like? Common sense? Sounds like your mother talking to you. And I'm not your mother and I'm not your father. But these principles are timeless. Timeless. So again, it's practicing wisdom. And by the way, wisdom. I got another. I hope you, you're okay with these nuggets. One of the nuggets I got. There's three parts of obtaining wisdom. Number one is to read, watch, or listen. Right? We got that. Okay. Number two is to practice it, make mistakes and correct. We got that too. Not everybody's got that, but you and I got that. But the third one, to obtain wisdom. Ready? Take. Drum roll. The third way, obtaining wisdom, obtaining wisdom is don't think. Say it again. Write it down in big letters someplace and put it on a post it note in front of your desk. Don't think. Thinking is the Problem. Particularly if you're thinking through a clouded, muddy mind, okay, that's filled with other people's narratives, okay? Don't think. Instead, stop thinking. So stop your brain. Give it some clarity, give it some space to just be pristinely clear. Like the. The. The. The Caribbean lagoon. Like the Caribbean lagoon, just for a moment. And that moment will translate into hours, days, months of clarity of thinking and speaking and. And working with other people. Don't think. Okay? All right, so purity, mindfulness, wisdom. I'm not going to go into all those right now, but I'm going to give you those. Those are the four. The four. Let me just review the four, and there's one more, one bonus here for you. Four are. Number one, clear your mind mostly through meditation. Five minutes, 10 minutes, an hour, whatever you can have the affordability to do. Every day, five minutes of meditation, okay? Understanding and eradicating the three mental diseases that we're born with. Hatred, greed, delusion. Okay? Number three is to practice the five precepts. No killing, no stealing, no sexual misconduct, no lies, no intoxication, but in the. Not in just the literal sense, but in the business sense as well. Okay? We talked about that. Number four, practice mindfulness and wisdom. And be clean. And clean your space. Okay? Now, number five, this is a bonus for you. So I'm going to give you number five, this last one. This is kind of what I surmise from. I have. I got 20 pages of notes of writing feverishly and learning as much as I could from the senior monk. One of the things that I learned at the temple there is, listen very, very, very, very closely, and if somebody else is there, bring them in, okay? And I want you to hear this. Every question that you have is already inside of you. I'm going to say it again. Every. You may have heard this before. Every question that you have, major question you have about your life, your business, the next move to make what's next is already that the answer is already in here. It's already inside of you. But with a muddy mind, you can't get to it. You can't see it. Okay? So we always say that some people say luck is being in the right place at the right time with the right people asking the right questions, getting the right answers. Okay, we got that. But where's the ultimate right answer? If the ultimate right answer, Buddhism teaches the ultimate right answer is already inside of you, then you don't have to go very far looking for answers. But you need to quiet your mind and ask the right question. You're in front of the right person. That's you. You're clearing your mind. That's good. Okay. You're in the right place at the right time with the right person. Now let's ask the right question. This is so, so critical. And this hit me like a ton of bricks when I got home. Asking the right qu. Asking any question will give you an answer. You'll have an answer for every question. Why am I an idiot? You'll come up with 20 reasons why you're an idiot. Why does this always happen to me? Because for 100 other one reasons. So don't ask those questions. So, for example, if you've got a challenge, here's one for me. I'm going to share one with you. This is very personal. That's okay. I asked myself the question, how am I going to do all this? Because I am a. I have tons of projects over here. How am I going to do all this? How am I going to do all this? And the answers were horrible. Well, you're going to do this and you got to work hard. You got to burn extra hours. Wrong question. The better question not how am I going to do is the word. The, the problem is the word I. The. The. The right question is how, how, how can we get this done? How can this get done? How to do. How are we going to do all this? We is a better than I. Okay. How is this going to get done? Okay, and now you're going to come up with a whole bunch of answers. But when you already say, how am I going to get it done? Then it's all about I, me, solo, self employed, entrepreneur, overwhelmed, all that garbage. Wrong question. When I went to one of my coaches today and went through some of this stuff, it was as simple as changing the question. The answer is already inside me. Let me give you another one. What's wrong with me? Have you ever said to yourself, what's wrong with me? What's wrong with me? Don't ask that question. Say, ask your question, what's right with me? And you'll get an answer just as much, but you'll get different set of answers. Okay, why me? Don't ask that question. Why not me? Okay, so the quality of the question will determine the quality of the response. We teach this in all of our classes. But now more than ever in this crazy, mixed up, confusing world, the. The rules of Buddha, the ancient rules of the. Of the Buddhist temples come true to us now more than ever in their, in their exquisite, pristine simplicity. Okay, now if you have Some comments and questions about this. Hopefully you got some value out of it. If you've got some value, click like on this and and please share it with other people. My goal is to share whatever I learn with as many people as possible. Share it, like it. And again, subscribe to our YouTube channel as well. And if you really are interested in going from this S quadrant to our in our apex program to a scaled business, go to blairsinger.com plan and we'll sit down with you. Because what we do is very unique. We take the rules of business, the rules of personal development and the rules of spirituality straight into your business. Because at the end of the day, at the end of the day, it's your dream, it's your spirit, it's part of you. And it deserves to be treated with that level of dignity and that level of possibility. Okay? So again, if you like this, send me some comments. Let me know if you have some questions, I'll answer them on a future call. But just remember this. There are only. There are only four things. Four things. Clear your mind, know how to do that. Fight the three deadly mental health diseases we all have. Number three, practice the five precepts. Number four, clean up your act. Basically, clean your space. Clean it up, make it pristine. Clean not only the. The physical environment, your speech, your intentions, your politeness, your punctuality, your tidiness, all that. And I can tell you this. If you do just that piece, if you just do that piece for one week, you'll see a noticeable difference in your demeanor, your stress levels, your ability to make decisions, your ability to be a better leader. On and on and on. It's dramatic how quickly it works. Okay? All right. So again, thank you guys. I love you. I love you guys dearly. You deserve to have your dreams. Talk to you soon. Talk to you next time.
