Blair Singer presents a short motivational talk about how the fear of what others think blocks sales, leadership, and personal success. He identifies three steps to overcome this fear; in this excerpt he details the first two: (1) remove or distance yourself from people who undermine or do not support you, and (2) control and silence the inner critical voice that sabotages efforts. A third step is promised but not shown in this chunk.
In my entire life, I learned there's one thing that stopped me from making sales, from being able to lead, to have the life of my dreams. And you know what it was is my fear about what other people thought about me. My fear what other people thought about me. So if you've got. If you feel like you're at a place where you just are bursting with something you want to share with the world, then you're going to have to learn three things. I learned there were three things that get me past that. If you feel like you're walking on eggshells, you're afraid that you're going to be inappropriate or whatever. Number number one was this. Be careful of the people that you hang around with. Who are the people in your life that are supporting you, are telling you that you're not good enough. Get rid of those people that are not supporting you. Love them, but love them from a distance. That was number one. Number two is I had to learn how to control and squash the little voice between my ears that was beating me up and sabotaging my best efforts. And, you know, the last thing of all.
