Blair Singer speaks from Vietnam in a short YouTube clip about motivating people. He frames a two-part story introduced during a mountain leadership trek to Machu Picchu, recounting a dinner conversation with a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel (Frank) who gave a surprising answer about leadership; Singer teases the explanation to be revealed in Part 2.
I'm in Vietnam right now. Amazing place, home of some of the greatest entrepreneurs in the world. I was asked to speak to a group of people the other day about how do you motivate people? And so I gave them a little story that I'm going to tell you here. This is two parts about how you motivate people. It's not necessarily what you think. And this came from a retired colonel in the United States Marine Corps. We, I trekked to all over the world and we were trekking to Machu Picchu doing our mountain leadership experience and we're going around the table asking at dinner what is it that makes a great leader? People, decision making, strategic thinking, motivation, all that kind of stuff. And I came to Frank and Frank said who, like I said, the retired colonel. And what he said completely floored me. Now if you want to know what he said and how to motivate people, stay tuned for part two.
