A short YouTube monologue by Blair Singer (January 2025) in which he recalls, at age four, being given a lamb to raise and sell so he could buy an electric train set. He cared for the lamb (named Sam), presented him at a northeastern Ohio livestock auction, and sold him—learning an early lesson that sales equal income.
Zero to hero. My first sale. My first sale was four years old. I wanted an electric train set. I was living on a farm. My family didn't have very much money. My grandfather said, I got an opportunity for you. One day a small lamb showed up in our front yard. And he said, this is your lamb. You grow it and you sell it, and then you can buy an electric train. So for a whole year, I fed it with a bottle. I took care of this lamb. I named him. My lamb's name was Sam. Sam the la. And I had that one day at a livestock auction somewhere in northeastern Ohio. And they put me up on the. On the podium with a big microphone. I go, this is my lamb. His name is Sam. And I'd be selling him to buy an electric train set. And I think I got the sympathy vote of all the Amish farmers in the area, had plenty of money, bought my first train set, and from then on, sales equaled income.
