A short motivational talk (Blair Singer) about creating deeply loyal teams. Core claim: loyalty cannot be bought but must be built by enrolling people in a mission larger than themselves and promising personal growth; this approach applies in business, friendships, and parenting.
How do you build a team that would actually take a bullet for you? How do you do that? Well, loyalty isn't bought, it's built. Okay, and this is true on your business team, this is true with your friends. This is true as a parent. So what is it that will allow you, an ordinary person, just like you and me, to be able to build a great team, even with people that are not, quote unquote, high caliber, high intellect, even high skill levels? It's very simple. What's your mission? What is it you're set out to do? And can you enroll other people in a game that's bigger than them, that will somehow promise that if they come with you, they'll become the bigger, better version of themselves? This is probably one of the keys to motivating anybody. It's built over time. It's not your skill, it's not your speaking skills. It's none of that kind of stuff. And it's not their talent. Some people have talent, some people don't. Some people have skills, some people don't. But the one thing that you can promise them, build a grand.
