Blair Singer delivers a short motivational monologue arguing that motivation alone is insufficient for success; instead, consistent discipline — showing up, following routines and systems, and being dependable in quality and timing — outperforms natural talent or sporadic motivation.
If you rely on motivation you're going to lose. Motivation alone is not going to get you to win. Listen to this. I know at this stage of my life I may not be the smartest guy on the planet. I know that I don't have the natural talent that maybe other people in the area do. And you know what? I'm not that heavily motivated sometimes I'm actually fairly lazy. But the one thing that I bring to the table that I know I can count on that doesn't take brains, it doesn't take talent, doesn't take any of that is a level of discipline which means just showing up, doing what you're supposed to be doing, following a system, following the routine and allowing the nature to take its course. If you do that, nobody will ever touch you because at the minimum you'll be the last man standing. Your reputation for dependability on time, high quality supersedes your talents and your motivation. Motivation alone is not going to cut it unfortunately.
