Pounds = Pain #3 Path to Fully Scalable Business

Blair Singer uses climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to explain why scaling a business requires more than ambition. Extra weight slows you down, altitude sickness mirrors the invisible stress of complexity, and you need a plan, a team, and the right skills to reach the top without breaking.

10 times.
For every 5–10 pounds in your backpack, you add at least a 5% increase in workload.
95% summit rate.
About 60% never make it.
Every 3,000 ft.
We've spent all of our money. All of our savings is gone. You promised me a vacation. We never get them anymore. You're working 24 7. They're never spending any time with the kids. That sound familiar? That's. That's called purgatory. Purgatory, that's walking hell on earth as a solo entrepreneur on s, as we would call a self employed person working on your own, caught in the rat race of never getting ahead. And these days, with what's coming down with our economy, with the pandemic, with everything, it's not getting better. It's gonna get a little worse. It seems a little bit better right now, but it's gonna get worse. But here's the deal. This is part three of Pounds Equal Pain. Pounds equal pain. So if you remember hanging. Hey, guys. Lovely. Solar. Okay, good. So if you remember pounds equal pain, we said this. One of the lessons of climbing Kilimanjaro, which I've summited now 10 times, one of the lessons of that is that pounds equal pain. What's that mean? Little review. That means for every five to ten pounds you have in your backpack, you're adding at least a 5% increase in your workload. So. So the thing that you learn when you start climbing the mountain is you don't want to be carrying very much. You got to get rid of stuff, got to get rid of extra weight, extra clothes, gear you don't need, mental stuff that's holding you back. So that's what we covered in the first two of the series of Pounds equal Pain. So go back and check it out. But the deal. Why am I using this analogy? Here's why. Because very much like building a scalable business climbing a mountain, Kilimanjaro are very, very parallel. Very, very similar. So stay tuned. I'm going to give you the next big lesson on how this all works is how you can actually get to the top. And by the way, hey, hello, Vietnam. Hello. How are you doing there? Good to see you. Put in your comments, put in your questions. It's not going to be a very long post right now, but it's going to be one that I would love to have some of your questions. And if I don't answer them here, I'll answer in the next call. So I'll be doing a couple of these every week. Okay? All right. So pounds equal pain. And by the way, as you go to altitude, that becomes more magnified, which I'll explain why in a second. If you're going to start a business if you have or you already have a business and you want to get to that nirvana of a fully scalable business, it's kind of, kind of looks like this. Okay? So you decide down here someplace here, you decide right about here that you want to do this. You come up with a bright idea, okay, here's your little light bulb bright idea that you want to do this. And then you actually going to start the climb, climb killy and ultimately get ourselves to the apex or to the top. Okay? So that's the plan. That, that's the plan. Anyway. Now they're just like that. We have six or seven camps going up the mountain. There's about eight camps necessary to get to, to get to that scalable business. But here's the thing to keep in mind the fir. And so I'm going to go through these, by the way, if you're interested. You want to learn how to do this? Make sure you come to this live every week. Because I'm be giving a different lesson every week on how to do this with the advice of rich dad advisors, with Kiyosaki myself. He's not going to be on this call. But basically this is how we've done it. This is how we teach people to do it. And by the way, if you want to do it quicker and in more depth, you just go to blairsinger.com forward/pain. Talk to one of our mountain guides and we'll see if there's a fit here there. See if there's a way that we can support you in this. Okay, Amari, good. Good to see you. Very good. Thank you. God bless you too. Okay. All right, so here's the thing. The first thing is you raise your hand and you say, I want to do this. Okay, so step one is, what is it that, what is it that you actually want right here? What do you want? That's not a very good marker pen, is it? Let me try this one. What do you want? There we go. What do you want and why? Why do you want it? And you better have a pretty damn. You have better have a damn good reason why you want to go through all the pain of getting up here. Because like I said, pounds equal pain. You're going to have to shed some weight before you start this ascent. Otherwise you're just not going to make it. You're just not going to make it. Okay, so what is it? And the next step is as you begin to train, you're going to get. What is your reality here? What's the reality? What kind of shape are you really in? What kind of. If you pull financials on your business, what kind of shape is it really in? Are you the asset or are you the liability? Are you the person? Is all the income coming through you? If so, not bad. But it makes you very, very vulnerable. Okay. Very, very vulnerable. As you'll see later, as you could try to climb this thing. Okay, so what is your current reality? What's the reality of your finances? What's the reality of your mindset? What's the reality of your skill set at that point? Are you prepared for the climb? You see a lot of people come to Kilimanjaro and there's an old adage that says if you show up, that's 90% of the game. Well, that's just not true. That's not true in business. It's not true in climbing. Not true in any case. So again, that's some personal development gurus idea of showing up, is it? No, you got to prepare. Over here is the preparation part, right over here is the climb. So there's always two parts to the deal. So if you want to go from being self employed out of the purgatory to the dream of having a scalable business that delivers income to you for generations to come, ideally without you having to do the work. First thing is, what do you want really? What is it you really want? Why do you want it? And what's your current reality? That's, that's camp number three. Then the next piece is before we begin the ascent, what's the plan? What's the plan? See, all this goes into, into effect. So a plan. What's a plan look like a plan? Something looks like this. This is what we call a per chart. Okay. Now you need to go into the detail, but what's the. If this is the apex of the mountain over here and we're over here, what are all the events, what are the events that you need in order to make it happen? Now already some of you look at, if you're self employed and you look at a per chart, you're going, oh my God, I'm already in overwhelm. And that's normal. And that's part of the, part of the pounds that you got to lose. Because again, what you know down here is not going to necessarily help you going up here. Okay, let me point this, let me show you how this works. So you have a plan of some sort. Next thing, next thing that gets introduced here right about here as we, we show up, we, we fly over To Tanzania, and you meet the team. You need the team. Why? Okay, here's why. Because here's something very interesting that happens as you begin to ascend. The barometric pressure at sea level, where we're designed to operate as human beings, is designed for our body functions to work pretty well as you go. For every, I think every 3,000ft in elevation, you move into a different barometric pressure pressure zone. What's that mean? The amount of pressure, air pressure on you gets less and less and less as you go higher with altitude. Makes sense. Less weight of air on you, less barometric pressure. The problem with that is your body doesn't function. The way is not designed to function at altitude. That's why you hear about altitude sickness. Same thing with business. You start to go this climb, you're going to find out really quickly. Remember, pounds equal pain. You can't carry all your gear. We have a 95% summit rate. The average group, 60% of the people never make it to the summit. 60% never make it. Why? Because they try to do it on their own, which is what was happening here. You're probably really good, really talented. You have a lot of skill, a lot of drive, a lot of discipline. All that stuff that I had, that's all good. But the problem. The problem with all of that is that that will keep you here. If you're trying to get to. With altitude, you can't carry all that stuff. You meet your team. Why do we. Why do we have 95 success rate working with businesses, working with climbing Kilimanjaro Is because you have to have a team. For us, we have three porters on the mountain for every one of us three. So again, if there's five of us going, there's 15 porters. Now you say, well, geez, that's pretty extravagant. Look, the goal is to get up here and to be able to get there without killing yourself. Same thing in business. The reason the failure rate in business is so bad is. Is so high. Is it because down here, the. One of the realities that you need to face is that working on your own is not going to get you to the goals that you have for a scalable business. Just won't take team. Team comes next. Okay, so that's Camp 1, Camp 2, Camp 3. Over here, we're talking about little voice. Why? Because right about here, we've moved through two barometric zones, which now means that our lungs are feeling it. We. There's not as much oxygen up there, by the way. The oxygen up here is 50% of what it is down here at sea level. There's enough pressure on your body that it moves oxygen and CO2 in and out of your cells. It allows your blood to flow through the capillaries into the extremities and back. It allows your digestive system to work. Because you're using the prep. The ambient pressure around you as you climb, that goes away. So now your body is forced to do things that it didn't do before, it's not designed to do. That's why you start to get. Some people feel nauseous, lightheaded. Migraines. Sound familiar? You don't have to climb a mountain to experience that. That can happen in your own business. Why? Because you're ascending to a level. It's not just pounds equal pain, it's also altitude. It's also altitude. And if you don't deal with that, you definitely. You just won't make it. You won't make it. So what does that mean? That means why, little voice? Because right about here you begin to doubt yourself. You're going, oh, my God, am I really doing this? Why am I doing this? I could be at a beach someplace. Why am I on a mountain, on the side of a mountain, gasping, you know, not gasping for air, but just not feeling great. Why am I doing this business? I would go back and just do things on my own. It was so much easier. So what happened? Resistance. Resistance. By the way, what I'm showing you is our process, this is our patented process to help you go from being self employed to get into the top. These, these are the curriculum modules that we use. So I'm going to go through these every week again. If you're interested in seeing how this applies to you, go to blairsinger.com pain and talk to one of our team and to find out where you are on this track and how we can possibly give you some advice and help you along the way, okay? Because these days your best chance for financial freedom and have the lifestyle you want is as an entrepreneur. It's not. It's getting harder and harder than ever. But if you follow the. Follow the trail, if you follow the advice, okay? And have good guides. Remember we said before, you have to have to have the right gear, you have to have the right attitude, you have to have the right training and you have to have the right guides. You have a guide that speaks only Swahili and you speak English. And you're going to try to go to the top and figure this out together. You're not you're just not going to make it. I've seen, I've been up there 10 times. I've watched people try. It will not work. Trust me. Just like in business, it will not work if you don't have the right guy because you've never been up there yet. Okay, so how would you even know where the trail is? Okay, so Little Voice, because right here is where your resistance comes up. In business, you have a team. I don't know how to deal with my team. What's going on here? Right, so because you're what worked for you as a solopreneur down here is not going to work for you up here. And it's not working. And you're feeling it. You're feeling it in your head, you're feeling it in your body. You're feeling it. You're seeing it in your numbers. Okay, so we need to do an assessment. What's going on with your little voice? How do we recondition it? Re acclimatizes for a higher altitude to deal with a different set of problems. Now, the challenge with business and killy both is that as you could become here pretty prepared. But as you climb, the effects of altitude are invisible. You don't see them. It's not like you got, you're, you're fighting dragons or you're, you're beating back competition or anything. You can't see it. It's. It's a beautiful day, but you don't feel so good and you're moving slower. It's a beautiful day and everything seems to be good, but your numbers aren't coming in. You're not getting the results that you're looking for. You're just not getting the results, but you don't know why. Okay. A lot of it is right here. It's Little Voice. It's invisible to you, but very visible to us as your guides. Okay, so you need to address address that. What comes next? Well, for sure, hopefully here you develop selling skills because you sales equals income and you need to generate need to tune up your selling system. You need to become a up here. A more advanced camp is when you become a teacher or leader. A great teacher and leader. Why? Because that great teacher leader part of what you've got to do is to teach your team who how to do the selling over here. Otherwise you'll never get to the final camp which is to scale at the top where you truly scale your business. So what happens is you have to learn the skills of teaching to be able to teach the Team, how to sell and to continue the cycle, to continue like this, all the while dealing with altitude until the more time you spend up here, the more acclimatized you get. If you try to run up here, lungs fill up with fluid, brain fills up with fluid, you be. That's called edema. Okay, Pulmonary, you know, pulmonary edema or cerebral edema. Same thing. Same thing happens in business. It over, it will overcome you and you will be. And if you keep trying, they'll carry you down in a gurney. That's what will end up happening, which is what happens to about 60 to 70% of most businesses. They just don't make it. It's not that they couldn't. It's not that they did. It's just that they don't understand the effects of altitude that force your body and force your mind to think differently and do different things and to be able to be coached along the way in those things. You don't sell the same way here that you sold down here. And right now, what adds to the steepness of this thing is the fact that we've gone through a pandemic. Okay. Hey, it's midnight in Thailand. Good to see you again. Yes, same to see. Hello from India Pranav. Very good to see you guys. If you've got questions about this, by the way, just type them in the chat box and in the comment section and I'll do my best. Okay. To answer those. Now I'm running through this really quickly. We're going to review this again in the next session and go dig a little deeper because my goal for you, all of you and our. With our. This is what we call an apex program. To get to the apex, get. Get to the top of killing, get to get to a scalable business. If that's our goal. Now, not very many. It's not for everybody. And not very many people are going to even want to do it because already some of you going, whoa, do my perch or it's not a per chart is a pain is overwhelm. Unless. Which is that thing I showed you before for. Unless you're doing it as a team. If it's a team, it's not a problem, you know, because you're doing this, I'm doing that you're doing. But if you're trying to do that on your own, you're like, it's too much. Okay, it's too much, but it's not too much if you have a team, it's not too much if you unload, reduce the Weight of a little voice that served you maybe in high school or served you at university and served you as a, as a solopreneur. But it's not going to serve you. If you want to go to a place where you can live the lifestyle you want to live, you can travel where you want to travel. You know, suppose based upon what the pandemic will let you do, but have the travel, have the lifestyle, and to actually create a legacy for yourself so you don't have to work your ass off for the rest of your life. Okay? All right. So precious, revision for me. Hello. Blair from Philippines. Richard Cruz. Good to see you. Yen from Vietnam. Thank you for being here again. If you've. You said precious, Mulvane says something about revision for me. Okay, revision for me. I'm not sure what that means, but what I'm going to assume it means is to run through this again. There's a lot of detail at each of these camps. Each camp you learn new skills. You learn to learn to deal with the altitude at a different level. Remember, two factors in climbing and in business. Number one, pounds equal pain. You got to let go of stuff that does not serve you or you will not ascend. That's number one. Number two, the effects of altitude. As you rise in altitude, as you rise in altitude or complexity or the breadth of your business, different things are going to happen to your body, to your mind, to your emotions, to your little voice. And if you're not prepared, these are things. You don't see altitude. You don't see altitude coming at you. You feel it and you don't know what it is. Okay? Remember, every 3,000ft is a different barometric zone. And so, and if you don't acclimatize properly with the right guides and all that, you just, you just don't make it to the top. This is exactly what happens in business. Again, if you want to learn how to do this in depth in your particular situation, if it applies, go to blairsinger.com forward/pain and, and make an appointment. And one of our members of our, of our mountain guide, Apex guide team will support you with this. Okay? All right. Importance of acclimatization. Yes, Gaurav, that's right. So again, one of the problems with people that try to race up to a scalable business is they're, it just doesn't work because you've going up too fast. You have to acclimatize at each camp. You know, on Everest, you go up to a camp, come back down, go up to A camp and come back down. Go up to the camp and come back down. It's because it's even steeper. It's even steeper. It's one task at a time. Basically, you know, it starts with a want. What do you want and why? What's your current reality on taking on this expedition and what's the plan? We. And we work with you to try it out. We work with you to help you create a whole per chart, a plan of all the things you'll need to do to build the right legal systems, marketing systems, selling systems and to. To get your get to and scaling systems to get yourself to the top and then learn the critical skills along the way. Okay. My goal, goal of blur training academy is to build the best. Is to help create the best teachers, leaders and facilitators in the world. So one side of it is to teach you how to be one of those great facilitators. The other one is not to help you get your. Your business or any business to the same level with you. Because I can give you all the skills to be one of the best in the business. But you'll still never make. May never make it up here because as you. As you ascend to that level, it requires a different set of skills. And if you are used to reverting back to what you've always done to the. To your strength, you won't make it. You just won't make it. And if you try to. If you try to do too hard, like I said, they'll carry you down in a gurney. You'll become a casualty. And we don't want any casualties. Okay, Got it. All right, so that's all for today. That I just. I wanted to give you a little brief overview of. Of our apex program. And if you're interested, like I said, to get to the top of the mountain, some of you been that are on this call have been to Kilimanjaro with me. Hey. Hey, Michael Dell. Good to see you again. Hopefully you watch this one because Michael Dell Odell went with me to. Went with us to Kilimanjaro just recently and. And the in the journey from the moment you make the decision and decide what you want and why and then get a clear reality check on your skill level and your body development and then create a plan and then with the right guys, camp 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Up to a scalable business. Okay, remember, two effects. Pounds equal pain. That's the one we talked about that the last two sessions. This one we're talking about altitude. As altitude goes up and the ambient pressure releases, your body's got to work harder. It's got to provide functions that it didn't have to provide before. You've got to see things, hear things, respond to things in a different way than you did down here, or you will not make it. And one of the big keys is, is that some of you're going to need. You're going to need a team. That's why it's right down here. One of the first. Right here, first. One of the first camps right here. Team. You got to be able to offload that stuff and be able to have other people help you. Otherwise, you will not make it okay. And my goal is for all of you to make it all right. All right. So thank you. If you have questions, type it in the comments, submit them, and on the next call, I'll do my best to answer some of those. I know I went through a lot of stuff really quickly. Thank you. Samita. I'm glad you. I'm glad you like the context. It's a. It's a different one. And I had to ask myself, why have I climbed Kilimanjaro 10 times, and why am I going back again? Because it's one of the most powerful metaphors for almost every area of my life. For me and for the people that have gone there and particularly in business, to go from to. To reach the holy grail up here, which is for many, not for all, the holy grail, which is a fully scalable business that runs without you. It's inspired by you. It's motivated by you, but it's not you. Do you doing the work. Because remember, when you do the reality check down here, before you take it on, you got to ask yourself, and am I a liability to my business, or I'm an asset to the business. And if you're an asset as a solo entrepreneur, you are the liability because you will never grow by yourself. So you get a team very, very early in this process to make the. Make the journey pleasurable and to create a legacy. Remember, Kilimanjaro has been around for hundreds of thousands of years. I'm not gonna be around for hundreds of thousands of years. Neither are you, and neither are businesses. But if we can get them to be just a little bit bigger than me, this is me. This is way bigger than me. And I don't know about you, but I'm into making a difference in the world and to making a difference in a lot of people's lives. This is the path. Be awesome, you guys. We'll see you next time.
