Reality Check! Your 2nd Step to Business Freedom

Blair Singer walks self-employed people through Step 2 of building a scalable business: assess your current reality. Know your personal and business finances, inventory your skills, identify what to let go of (negative people, resentment, victim mindsets), simplify systems, and prepare for resistance. A follow-up session with Joe DeMaria covers achieving scalability.
Getting to the top. Is it really possible or am I doomed to operate in the rat race of being self employed for the rest of my life? My name is Blair Singer. Welcome. This week we're working more on our series of pounds equal pain, but most importantly, how to go from self employed to fully scalable business and to go from, as Robert Kiyosaki would say, enrich dad. Poor dad. How to go from S quadrant self employed to the B quadrant of a real business. So thank you for being here. And just as a recap, we're going to continue. We're going to continue on the journey. Like I said, business is an adventure, just like climbing Kilimanjaro. And so this first step we talked about last time was assessing your wants and your needs, your mission and why you want to do this. You know, really? Why do you want to do this? Because you better have a damn good reason why you want to build a business. Because there'll be days when you won't want to do that. You're going to want to kick back. Look, I don't want the aggravation. But you know what? If you did, if you did step one correctly, if you really found what makes your heart sing, what your mission is, what your rules are for yourself, then you'll do fine. You'll be great. And you'll have the inspiration to get past those days when things aren't just going your way. Okay. All right. So what's number two on the list, by the way? This. This curriculum that I'm giving you here is part of our APEX program. And if you really want to get this done quickly and you want to get it done with somebody at your side, then you would go to blairsinger.com relief and sit down with one of our guides and see if there's a match. Actually, you'd fill out an application to see if you qualify to do that. So this. But if you just, if you're just wanting to learn and get the basics, make sure you're here every week. And again, these videos will be on YouTube. So you go back and watch them again and again and again. Okay. All right, so step one we talked about over here was your wants, your mission and your whys. What, what is all that? So we covered that before. All right, so step number two, Step number two, step two is this is to do what I call a current reality assessment. So if you can see this, A current reality assessment. Current reality assessment. Okay, so these are our little post it notes that we use in our plan. So It's a current reality assessment. Right here is the next step in the process. What does that mean? Well, what that means is if you want to lose weight, the first thing you got to do is what? Stand on a scale. That's right. Stand on a scale and let. And. And. And take a look at where you are. What is your weight, you know, what is your resting heart rate? So one of the big mistakes that people make is that they're a bit delusional. They get the mission. I'm going to change the world. I'm going to make a difference. We're going to be number one, All. All that stuff. But they fail to look at the reality of where they're at right now. If you want to be financially free, you better know what a financial statement looks like and be able to produce one for yourself so you can see where you're at. Okay? So the opposite of that. The opposite of that, which I find many entrepreneurs fall into the bad habit of, if they don't face reality, they operate delusionally. Delusionally. Okay. So in other words, they have a false impression of themselves and the world around them. And it doesn't come until later, when you put in some energy and time and even money, where you realize, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. I may. Maybe I'm in over my head here. Okay? That's easily avoided. Easily avoided. You know, before we go to Kilimanjaro, raise your hand, you say, I want to get to the top. That's the mission. Pretty simple, right? But then everybody's got to do an assessment because you got to now train. And what do I need to do? Am I in shape to do this? You know, what's my rest again? What's my aerobic capacity? You know, how long can I be on my feet? Is my little voice. In order to be able to handle the rigors of the journey, all these things, you have, like, anywhere from three to six months to prepare to work through those things. But if you don't accurately assess it, and I've seen this happen, people go, I'm in great shape. I go to the gym a couple times a week. I'm good. And they show up and they get spanked. They never make it up the mountain because they did not do a proper reality check. Or somebody's trying to build a business. And I got it. I got the mission. I know what I'm doing. I'm good in sales. We're good to go. But they don't realize that it's a team sport. You Know, realize that this is going to take some funding and how to raise money and how to do so again in the journey to getting to whatever it is your apex is up here. The second step is to get. Do a reality assessment. Do a reality assessment. Now, what do you do a reality assessment on? Let me give you some ideas. Number one, you. You got to find out what you need. You know, take a look at your personal finances. Where are they? Doesn't matter where they are. You could be broke, you could be in debt, you could have a lot of money in reserves. Doesn't matter as long as you're clear on what it is. Because then when we go to the next step, which is creating the plan, you'll know where to start your plan from and how to operate. You won't get tripped up in the process. So understand your finances. Be able to read a financial statement. Number two, what is it? If you're. If you're trying to. If you're. Sometimes assessment is not about what you need. It's about what you need to let go of. Need to let go of. So what do you need to let go of? So if you're going to take this journey up here, one of the things, one of the biggest things is to eliminate people in your space that are negative. Okay, I can't say this enough. If you have a vision of where you want to go and you still have some people that are naysayers or negative people around you, I'm going to say that you don't have a clear vision of your goal. Why? Because it's clouded by their opinions, their ideas, and that affects us. The easiest thing to do is to remove yourself from that environment or remove those people. Now, if these are family members, I'm going to say, don't stop loving your family. Love them, but love them. As my friend Mac Newton says, love them from a distance. Don't keep them in that space because it will. It will. That's the burden we talked about. Those are the pounds that will equal pain, not only on the climb, but also in the training leading up to the climb. Okay, what else do you need to let go of? Well, you need to let go of resentment toward others. You need to let go of any victim mentalities that you might have, any entitlements that you think because, well, because I did well in school or I, you know, I was good in my job, I should. I deserve this. Get rid of all that. Because the interesting thing about biz taking this journey, everybody starts at zero. Everybody. Everybody starts at Zero. Okay. What other things? What other things? One of the other things to let go of is a little voice that says I can't whatever, I can't study, I can't sell, I can't build teams, I'm not smart enough, I gotta get, unload that one, unload all that stuff. And by the way, that's a lifelong process. That's a lifelong process. Look, let me just pause right here. Is this journey, is this adventure any different than any other part of your life? No. I mean, you would do the same. If you want to lose weight, you're going to get on the scale. If you want to improve your relationships, you need to do an honest assessment of your relationship with your, the primary other person in your life. Okay? If you're, if you're going to do well in business, assess where you have experience and where you have skills and be very, very clear the ones you don't have. Because one of the problems with S quadrant people, self employed or solo is they're used to doing things on their own, right? How do I know this? Because that's me. Okay, Used to doing things on your own, you're used to doing sales and marketing and systems and all kinds of stuff. And I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. Well, you know what, you can, but it's not practical for you to do it. And if you try to do it all, you'll never get it all done not to, you'll never, you'll never make it here. You'll be hanging out down here trying to figure it out for the rest of your life. Okay, all right, so what skills do you have and what experience do you really have? Do you know how to sell? Do you know how to build teams? You. Do you want to teach people on your team how to sell? Do you want to set up systems, accountability, create a code of honor, set of rules for yourself? Okay, so again, these are things to assess. It does, let me repeat it doesn't matter if you know how to do it or not. Just accurately get a picture of the reality. Once you have the reality and you're not delusional, you're wide eyed, then you can continue on your journey because now you know what you need to learn or you know the team members you're going to need to pick up to work with you. Okay, that makes, hopefully that makes sense. A couple other things on this journey, what other things you want to leave behind when you're doing your reality check here. One of the things is to simplify Simp wherever you can. Simplify things, simplify. My friend Robert Kiyosaki says simplicity is genius. The problem is, is for solo individuals, we take a lot of pride in what we know, a lot of pride in what we know. And so we have a tendency to make things more complicated because it's a subconscious desire to show other people what we know or to show to other people what we're capable of. Right. Forget all that. That's not going to help you at all. That just feeds your ego. And there'll be plenty of opportunities on this journey for your ego to get slapped around. You don't need to even introduce that one. Okay, so. So keep everything simple. How can I make this simpler? How can I make this simpler? Who can I go to to make things simpler? Okay. The other thing is to assess is. Is to assess your resistance. Because resistance will come as you climb up this mountain. As you begin to climb this mountain, right about in here, you're going to face resistance. Actually, next step is going to be a lot, a major resistance. Why? I'll save it for next time. But what comes up are all the things that you need to do and, oh, my goodness, it's too much. And I'm in overwhelm. And so what will happen is your little voice will create resistance too big for me. Can't do this. Not good enough. Okay. The other resistance that shows up is that you are now pushing into the future. You're. You're pushing into a realm that you've not been to before. So you're physically pushing away physical people, objects, things that are already in place that you're carving away into the future. So there's natural resistance. See, as long as you stay working on your own in your own little world, kind of bore out this little hole. And this is where you operate from. There's enough mental resistance, but once you start pushing the envelope out, you're pushing against the rest of the world. Now, the rest, if you do it right, the world will invite you out there, but there's going to still be resistance. Okay, so watch. Watch for the resistance. Hopefully. If this is making sense, let me know if you've got some questions. Type in your questions in the chat box in the comment section, and I'll do my best to answer them as we go along. Hey, Miki, is it? Miki Spanov. Very good. And Anand, Very good to see you guys again. Thank you for joining, for joining the call and share this with your friends. Get other people to watch this again. This is on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube. So you'll be able to go back and listen to it now if you want. Again, if you want more help on this, go to blairsinger.com We've got a ton of stuff there you can just grab and go that will help you in the various areas that I'm talking about. Totally free. Go check it out. If you, if you're interested in getting some real support because you're, if you're really serious about going to the next level, um, then go to blairsinger.com forward/relief and set up an appointment, actually fill out an application. And if there's a fit, if we can help you, then we'll sit down and give you a strategy on how you, how to get there. Okay? So please, please do that. Now, one other thing. I'm going to come back to step two, but I'm going to give you a sneak preview of next week. Next week we're going to talk. I'm going to jump all the way ahead to the top of the mountain here, which is this one, this event right here. Scalability achieved. Scale, ability achieved. This is the, the holy grail. This is, this is the. When you get to a place where your business is generating income from you, but not be not on you, in other words, you are not the asset. Where there's an artifact, where there are intellectual properties, there are licensees, where there's, there and there's many ways to scale. Okay, so I'm putting this up here, right here. Scalability achieved. We're down here, we're getting here. And what I'm going to do is next week is we're going, I'm going to bring in a dear friend of mine, person that has done this in the training business particularly. But he's worked with many companies to work with law firms, he's worked with speakers, he's worked with tech companies, all kinds of organizations. And his specialty is creating scalability. Okay. And sometimes scalability is not what you think it is. It may be more reachable than you think. It may not be as complicated as you think. But his name is Joe and Joe DeMaria. And he's gonna, he's gonna be on the call on this call next week. I'm gonna interview him a little bit. He's gonna give you some clues and distinctions about what this looks like. And then, so as we get there, then we'll tell you the skills that you need to do to have that. Okay? All right. Ah, Manem. This is your first time getting welcome. I'm Glad. I hope you're enjoying it. Graham. Harvey. Wow. Good to see you, my friend. It's been a long time. Nikume. Very good. Excellent. And again, if you've got any questions or comments about this. Anand says, resistance is our great strength multiplier. It is if you embrace it that way. I agree with you 100%. If you embrace the resistance and look at it as a message from the universe, say, okay, are you serious about this? Is this something you really want to do? It gives you the opportunity to get bigger and to grow. Resistance will always be there when you're. When you're pushing out, whether it's losing weight gain, building a business, whatever it is. Anon says without little voice mastery, we cannot. We cannot outskill our inner resistance. That's right. It's all about little voice mastery. The war between your ears. Okay, so again, what are you going to need? You're going to need to understand finances. You're going to need to assess your experience levels, assess your skill levels, look at what your strengths are, understand what an asset is. An asset, according to our definition, is something that puts money in your pocket. It's not you putting money in your pocket. It's. It's a book, it's a video, it's an artifact, it's a subscription site, it's a manufacturing operation. It's a machine. It's something other than you physically that's generating income for you. Okay? And so one of the challenges in the training and teaching business is how to do that, typically, easily. You know, I create a digital product, put it online, sell it, and it sells itself. Okay? So that's. That's a very simple way of looking at a piece of scalability, but there's other ways to do it, too. And again, it depends on how big your mission is over here. How big is the mission? What's your game? What's the game? What's the. What is you trying to achieve? So for me, like I said, our mission is to create the best teachers, leaders, and facilitators in the world that change the way we operate in the workplace. And there's a whole bunch of reasons why I'm not going to spend this video to do it, because you've heard it before, but that's where we come from. What is it you're coming from if you want to create a B business? And why am I doing this? The reason I'm doing this is because this is my journey. This is the journey I've had to go through several times. Okay? And for the training community particularly, there are a lot of people with great talent, great skills, but they never see the light of day or they have no very little reach and they don't have the ability to change a lot of people's lives because they don't understand how to go from being self employed to being a scalable business. Okay. So that's why I've decided to personally teach and personally deliver this message to those people that want to do it. And again, whether you're in training or not, because I've worked with thousands of organizations. Matter of fact, I just had a client call me two days ago, I think it was two days ago. And they're in the solar business. And based upon some of the teaching of this process, their business was doing pretty well. But they went down big when Covid hit, shut the whole business down. I mean, they were doing several million dollars in sales a month and just went down. But within about two or three months, based upon one of the skills that are right up, right about in here, they're back up to about 25 million a month. 25 million a month. And it only took them a few months to make that transition. So it's even in a bad economy, even in a bad pandemic. So again, don't ever think I don't know how. I can't. What if you're pounds equal pain. One of the things I said in the beginning is to get rid of the people around you that are not serving you and not supporting you. I know that's harsh, but if your dream is that important, you got to be harsh about it too. I work with a co. I was coaching a team, a group this morning and I said, look, I said it. If you guys want to be world class at what you do, you're going to have to start being more discerning about the people you allow in your space. You can. I have a tough enough time with my own little voice. I cannot afford to have to deal with other people's little voices feeding my little voice, if that makes sense. Okay. Doesn't mean I don't love them, doesn't mean I scorn them. It means I don't allow them into the space you particularly the space of where I'm trying to create my dreams out here. Okay? Very important. Current reality assessment. Current reality assessment. Financial, spiritual, emotional, all of it. Take a good assessment and be honest about it. Then once you see that, where you have some deficits as we get to the next place, make it part of your plan. I'm Going to learn the things I need to learn. I'm going to learn this. I'm going to learn how to master my little voice. I'm going to get myself in better physical shape. I'm going to learn how to raise capital because I can see somewhere down the line I'm going to need to ask people for money. Okay, just curious, Blair. Can our brick and mortar universities worldwide survive by 2030? From Mumbai. From Mumbai. I don't know. It's a good question. It's not related to this. Let me hold on to that for a second. Well, let me. I'll just address it right now and then, you know, will that, Will they survive by to 2030? Where are we? 2021, I don't think, you know, if they're. If they make it past 2026 or 27, that'll be. That'll be a miracle. It's all going to depend. Our university's existence in the current format has going to be completely outdated thing. You know, if you've been with me, that technology's accelerated, media has accelerated, mental health has come down, and education has been revealed to be completely full of flaws. Okay, so we know that we're consuming over a billion hours of YouTube video every single day. Every single day. Why? Because there's a clamor for more information. There's a clamor to deliver the information. And, and rather than changing education systems, I was taught a long time ago by one of my mentors that if you're trying to make change in the world or change in an industry or change in your business, and you reach and. And you face immovable, let's call it immovable resistance. It's not you. It's. It's something else. It's an institution, it's a person, it's a company, whatever, an organization, don't try to take it down. Don't try to. Don't try to fight universities. Don't try to change universities. Don't try to bypass it. Bypass. That's what happens in your body. You get a blockage in your artery. You know, it could kill you. Unless your body is resilient enough to bypass around the obstacle and continue to circulate through your body. Same thing in business. So when you start talking about universities worldwide, and I could go off on that for hours, as you know. But if there's a better form of education, I don't think it's going to come from universities. Universities will have a purpose, you know, for certain technical types of training, but for a liberal Arts education or business education, very, very much lacking. Instead, what am I doing? Creating the best teachers, leaders and facilitators in the world. They're not part of that system. They teach real world stuff based on real world experience. And teaching people like all of us and you how to get your dreams by understanding what's really happening in the streets. And it's all, it's not just me, it's already happening everywhere. So I don't have a lot of, I don't have a lot of faith for the universities as they are in, in the future unless they become purely technical schools to learn things like medicine, law, engineering, things like that, that really require a certain amount of very, very, very technical skills. But for the rest of it, I don't see it. It's already failed us dramatically, particularly in our health. Graham Harvey. Yeah, that's right, Graham. That's what Bucky said. Build a new model, right? Is that. Don't try to change people. That's right, Graham. That's what Bucky said. Don't try to change people, change the context. Give them a new tool and they'll use the tool. If there's, if there's a river and people. And to get to the other side of the river, you know, it's dangerous, so people drowned and people wait until the dry season to cross the river when the river's lower and all that stuff that, you know, you could try to make them, teach them how to swim and all that stuff, or you could build a bridge. And if you build a bridge across the river, you don't have to convince people to use it, they'll just use it and life will get better. And that's what Graham's talking about. Build a new model. Build a model that will work. And I know that that's Graham. You're doing that in Australia. You were doing that when we met all those years ago. And thank you for continuing to do that work. Those of you who don't know him, check him out. Graham Harvey. Great trainer, great teacher, just. And a great human being. Haven't talked to you for a long time. Be nice to talk to you. Okay. Any other comments or questions? Happy to answer. All right. All right. So again, if you want some support on the journey from s self employed to a truly scalable business, and you want to find out if we can work together on this, go to blairsinger.com relief and book an appointment and then we'll give you a survey. And in the survey we'll, you know, if you qualify for the for the guiding then we'll. You'll sit down with one of our guides and we'll plot a course for you to get you there. Okay. And if we can work together, then we'll do that as well. Okay? If not, go to blairsinger.com There's a lot of great material there. Watch this video on YouTube a couple of times. But lots of great information for you to do it on your own if you want to do it that way. If you want us to help you, go to blairsinger.com relief. The other thing I'm going to say is this is that in climbing, if you don't have the right guide, you won't make it to the top. I think I mentioned that in a prior, in a prior session is allow us, myself, Rich dad, advisors, our team, people that I know, that we know that have been through, through the throngs, surviving the pandemic, building their businesses stronger, show you a little bit how to do it, do it next to you. Rather than trying to do this on your own. Remember one of the big things to let go of when you're doing this assessment. Stop doing things alone. Stop doing things alone. Stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room and being willing to humble yourself and shut your ego down. Okay? When you're doing your assessment, remove resentment of other people that are successful. Remove any entitlement you think you had because you're an executive at some. At some corporation. So therefore you've earned something. You've earned some experience. That's good. Okay? But you haven't earned anything on this journey yet until you actually go out there and strap on your boots and throw on your backpack and. And start. And start the trek. Okay? All right, you guys. So thank you for being here. Thank you for being part of this. Okay, so we've covered two steps. Your once in your mission and your why you define those. Then you're going to do a current reality assessment. By the way online. There are a lot of great tools you can find online in terms of doing business assessments doing. If you. We by the way, we have a business assessment tool. If you already have a business you can and let us know. Type in a comment assessment tool please and we'll do our our best to. To make it available. I think it's in the free section on my website. If not we'll put it up there. I assessment tools, personality tools, strength tools. All those are good. And assess it otherwise. Last thing otherwise you're delusional and delusional doesn't. It's not so bad that it makes you look a little foolish later on. But the worst part about delusion is that you are not telling yourself the truth. Business has a funny way of putting the truth right in your face and putting it there very, very quickly. It's a journey. Do it up front as best you can. There's enough for you to learn on the journey, but be honest in the beginning and it'll make the trek as you go. As you climb in altitude, it'll make it a lot easier. Okay? So again, thank you guys for tuning in. Thank you for your. Graham, good to see you again. Anand, thank you for your comments as well. And again, we'll see you next week. Again, the journey from being self employed solo to a truly scalable business that feeds you, that feeds your family, it creates a legacy because at the end of the day, what do you want to leave behind? What do you want to leave behind for other people that supports them and continues to support your dream? All right, you guys, be amazing.
