The Needed Criteria to be a Trainer

Blair Singer breaks down what makes a world-class trainer: relevant content matters least, how you teach matters more, but your character and what you model matters most. He draws on 25 years working with trainers globally.
If you want to be a world class trainer or a coach, what are the three most important criteria to make that happen? Well, I'll give you a little clue. It's not your charm, may not even be your results, it may not even be the content of what you're delivering. My name is Blair Singer. Some of you may know me as Rich dad, advisor Robert Kiyosaki in the area of team sales and personal development and the author of three best selling books. And over the last 25 years I have worked with thousands of people to help them become world class trainers, coaches and facilitators and leaders in the process. And the thing that I've learned over all these years, it's really three criteria. And if you don't understand these, you could be talking a storm to a lot of people that are just not getting it. And I'll tell you what, if you're going to be a trainer, there's three reasons you want to be a trainer or a coach. Number one, to get help a lot of people. Number two, to obtain a profile of being able to help a lot of people. And number three, to be able to make some good money doing it and be rewarded for it. So here are the three. Number one, the least important. Sorry, the least important piece is your content. It's not even the content, it's the content relevant to the people you're talking to. If you're talking about how to be an entrepreneur to a bunch of employees, that's not relevant, even though the content might be great. Number two. Number two, more important than your content to be world class is what do you think it is? What do you think it is? Well, if you guessed it, you're right. It's the way you teach, it's the way you coach, it's the way you ask questions, the way you acknowledge and the way you draw the information from the group. The way you teach and the way you do business is always more important than whatever the content is. That's important to know. That's why it's important to have the right methodology, A methodology that works, that makes the audience the hero, not you, the hero. And number three, the most important piece about being world class, about changing people's lives is what? What do you think it is? Well, if you guessed this one, you're right, it's you. It's who you are as a person. Because the minute you take the stage, take to the camera in front of a group of people, automatically you come under the scrutiny of everybody's little voices and everybody' minds. That's not a pleasant thing necessarily, but it's a good thing because they look to you as a role model. So who you are as a person, what you say, how you conduct yourself, the nuances, your mannerisms, the way you live your life, is probably the most important distinction that makes you world class. If you've worked with any of the people that I've taught, that I've worked with across India, across Asia, you'll know they are amazing people. So the good news is the most important part is you being your amazing self.
