A short motivational talk by Blair Singer describing the inner ‘little voice’ that undermines confidence and momentum. Singer distinguishes the little voice (a composite of memories, advice, and comparisons) from the ‘real you’ (calm, creative), advises becoming aware of the little voice to regain control, and recommends replacing it quickly with affirmations like “I got this.”
Ever heard a voice in your head say something like, you're not good enough? You know what I'm talking about. That's your little voice. That's not the real you. And it'll drive you crazy. It'll kill your confidence and kill your momentum unless you know that a it's your little voice. It's not the real you. It's a composite of memories and advice and old experiences and comparisons that you've made in your life, but it's not the real you. The real you is really genius. It's very creative and very silent and calm in the eye of a storm. But the truth of it is, if you listen to that little voice, it's going to crush you. So what do you do? Number one, is realize that you have it. Every guru, every spiritual guide over centuries has said, if you can stand outside yourself and become aware of what you're doing, you're now back in control. Same thing. Understand? You got a little voice, and it's not you. Now, that's number one. Then replace it with something like an affirmation, like, I got this. I believe in myself. Quickly. Just do.
