It's really easy to get caught up in the number goal, right? I want to have X amount of subscribers or followers on Instagram. But if you're really trying to build an audience around your art that cares about you and what you make, a number shouldn't be the goal. Building a community should. When you get caught up in the numbers, a couple things happen. One, you're never satisfied because you just continue to want a bigger number. And two, you don't focus on the person that's on the other side of the screen that's seeing the things that you make. If you focus first on building relationships and connection, a bigger follower count will follow.
