In this monologue, the speaker argues that copying other artists' strategies is a detrimental approach to building a personal brand that attracts collectors. They claim that authenticity—sharing one’s quirks, opinions, stories, and values—is the fastest and most effective way to stand out and connect with buyers. The speaker describes how mimicking others leads to a homogenized “sea” of similar content, creating an authenticity crisis on social media. They emphasize that the artist themselves is the art, and that genuine personal expression drives interest and sales. The talk concludes with a call to share the message with other artists and a supportive encouragement that the world needs more original voices.

Copying other artists' strategies is probably one of the worst ways that you can build a personal brand as an artist that attracts collectors. A lot of people teach this, and it drives me crazy because you're basically building your brand by borrowing someone else's personality. Like, you might as well use AI. And those people, if they are attracting buyers, they're doing it because they're being authentic to themselves. So you're working twice as hard to look like them and do what they're doing while while they're just showing up being themselves. Plus, if copying their strategy actually worked, you'd already have people beating down your DM doors trying to buy your art, and we both know that's probably not happening. Here's what's actually happening. The artists that are successful build their personal brand by being themselves. They share their quirks, their opinions, their ideas, their stories. They don't worry about always sharing their art. They share who they are as people as well. So when you're copying their format, their aesthetic, you're mimicking the surface-level stuff. And here's what's crazy, you're actually trying to stand out by doing what everyone else is doing. So do you end up standing out? No, we end up with a sea of people that look exactly the same, which is why I believe we're actually in an authenticity crisis when it comes to social media. 'Cause now you're one of 100 artists posting the same type of content. The fastest way to build a personal brand as an artist that gets collectors' attention is by being you. Because you don't make art, you are the art. Everything you create is a byproduct of your stories, your ideas, your values. And the more people connect with that, the more they will connect to your work and the more likely they are to buy. Please share this with another artist if you feel like this would be helpful to them. Sending you tons of love. The world needs more of you, not you copying someone else.
